I remember mom saying “if everyone else is going to jump off a bridge, are you going to jump too?”

You dont actually need a parachute to go BASE jumping, but you need a parachute to go BASE jumping twice.

For those wondering what went wrong: the parachute was packed slider up. This is only usually done on terminal jumps with or jumps with a far longer delay, which involves faster airspeed thus the need to use a slider to slow deployment. On a PCA (pilot chute assist) like this you would pack the parachute slider down or off so the parachute inflates much faster. This is needed as you are falling way slower and a low object like this would require an almost immediate inflation. Edit: Slider - is the rectangular/square piece of material that drops down the lines to slow the inflation of the canopy.

You broke a sacred rule of Base... Only ever jump a pack job you packed yourself. Jumping a friend's already packed rig? Unpack it and pack it for the jump you're gonna do. This one's on you, bro.

Maybe broken ankles, legs or back but not dead.. the parachute opening for a couple seconds before impact definitely helped save his life

It’s totally jumpable. I do way lower. The problem is he packed the chute with the slider up when it should have been either down or off. 100% jumper fault!!!

What you often see, is they got the open chute in their arms. Chutes take time for opening, if there is not enough time, you will die. When you do this, be extremely careful about how your chute will deploy. Please.

Yeah, I don’t know the official recommendation, but for base jumping, I think anything under 1000 feet is extremely dangerous beyond all reason. No room for error.

Can't see how this type of chute can work at that height. Maybe the bigold round canopy if it deployed and filled quick enough. That sort of thing does nothing for me although I did make 3 jumps many years ago. Funny I thought first time that we'd probavly sit in a classroom type situation for a few hours andprobably get to jump on our second day. Instead we were just taken out to the plane and shown how to climb out an d stand on the wheel whilehanging onto the wing strut. I thought you're kidding. I expected to yell Geronimo and jump out the door. When I wasgiven my chute I saw it wasstamped US Army 1943. At the time I thought " I wonderif I should complain about this ? " I though it might have been accidentally mixed up with one from the museum.
