This is a Scottish folk song describing the escape of Bonnie Prince Charlie to the Isle of Skye.
The song tells how Bonnie Prince Charlie, with the aid of Flora MacDonald, was disguised as a serving maid, and escaped in a small boat, after his defeat at the Battle of Culloden in 1746.
The lyrics were written by Sir Harold Boulton in 1884, to the tune of an old Gaelic rowing song known as "The Cuckoo In The Grove"
