Jeebz, if you haven't picked up on this yet -- Keshev is the de facto leader of Skyharbor; guitarist, writer, producer, and all-around wizard. :) Among his other projects is another with the same singer (the brilliant Dan Tompkins) and others, but with a totally different sound and direction: White Moth Black Butterfly. Worthy of some Jeebz-love, IMO.
Tesseract! I was just looking for that word, to describe a multifaceted meta crystal, with a firm structure which emits different "flowing", or chronologic, holograms, based on which facet faces source. Thanks!
Dan Tompkins (the vocalist) is an extremely talented and, fortunately, prolific artist. I love Celestial, off Skyharbor's first album. He's probably best known for TesseracT (you've already reacted to Dystopia :), but his solo work (Ruins) and Zeta (The Distance) are also great.
He is an underrated monster on drums. His "melodic" playing is so vital to this album. Masterful. And there are Skyharbor live YT videos without Anup - the intro to this song is a recorded track. The live drummer can't play it.
That guy's voice belongs to Dan Tompkins, one of the most talented (and active) vocalists in the metal scene. He is the primary singer for Tesseract, he has his own project called White Moth Black Butterfly, and he does guest vocals all over the place. I recommend listening to his contribution to Earthside's "A Dream In Static," the title track.
My first time using Twitch was to check out Dan Tompkins' stream, 1 minute in he asked which song he wanted 'us' to sing, I typed in Evolution and he immediately went and sung it! It's my favorite twitch/prog moment in life, Dan is such a cool guy. The break in this song has one of my favorite vocal performances of all time, it's so smooth, emotional and soothing..
Dang dude I listened to these guys all the time back in highschool. Noone talks about them anymore but they're fantastic. Crazy to see them on this channel. Whoever sent this reccomendation knows their stuff.
Definitely check out the title track of this album called 'Guiding Lights'. Another favorite of mine from that album would be 'Patience'. Outstandingly beautiful ,emotional pieces of music. Dan's vocals are just absolutely stunning.
Fell very ill some time ago when I requested this, just remembered today and thought I'd check... could not be happier to see you react to this! Gave this weathered shipwreck a bit of warmth to see the appreciation for them 😊😊 Perhaps if you'd be willing to give the title track a listen (Guiding Lights) you'll find a bit more to enjoy!
I hope you're doing well @Ex_ordium. I still vividly remember my first time hearing Guiding Lights some 7 years ago while working alone in a dark building and having to stop working to just sit down and appreciate what I was hearing. Such a beautiful album that I can always come back to at anytime and it still just pulls me in like it was the first time.
If you want more of the ambient or blended ambient stuff, the song Halogen and The Constant are the ones to listen to. All three of SH's albums are amazing.
These guys have a different vocalist now who is also great, but Dan Tompkins is a killer vocalist.... Celestial, and Maeva from their first album and Chemical Hands or Out of Time from their latest are Worth a listen
Daniel Tompkins is awesome whether it's extreme or beautiful vocals, check out some of the beautiful stuff he has done with White Moth Black Butterfly, listen to the song Tempest that's a good place to start it's an absolutely gorgeous song 😀👍
Wow! Thanks for this. I got turned on to something new. I wasn't sure at first but by the first stop I got into it. That lead melody from the guitar right before the first stop was fantastic.
@@bigrob966 It's our duty to never forget about them. I did meet the bassist at a pub not too long ago, the band isn't coming back, and all he wishes is for us to remember them for what they were. They did their all. Darroh is still MIA, no one knows where he is. I would like to speak to him, one day. But that day will never come.
hi im here from the doom video, i highly recommend you to listen to "the super gore nest" its the hardest theme in the whole soundtrack and again i recommend you the Koma mix, its literally the best mix of that song
You MUST do their song "Dim". Eric Emery is an amazing vocalist. You must do Voices from the Fuselage for the best ambient+prog music and heavenly vocals
Truly one of the more unique & uplifting sounding "modern prog/djent" records. To date I still think it's Dan's (Tesseract vocalist) best work as a whole package. Gives off so much warmth with the overall instrumental tone & the vocal harmonies & delivery. I would love to see your take on the band "Intervals" when they briefly had a vocalist & still had Anup on the kit. They're usually an instrumental band but did one record with vocals & it's quite underrated in my opinion by their general fanbase.
I really enjoy Skyharbor. As others have said, it was a launching point for Daniel Tompkins, but also Anup Sastry. I'd recommend "Illusion: Celestial" from their first album if you'd like to hear more. On a similar note, I'd love it if you gave a listen to Daughters of Mara. They've been on hiatus for a few years, but their singer Shawn Zuzek personally sent me a remastered copy of their first album "I Am Destroyer" and it is amazing start to finish.
What a treat to see this pop up! Check out some tesseract while you're at it! 😉 Also fun fact, this album was produced with Forrester Savell, same guy who does karnivool. Worth giving some of his other work a look in: deadlettercircus, the butterfly effect, sleep parade to make a few Aussie pro rock acts.
Great stuff as always. New playlist addition. What service do you use to listen to? I recently made the switch from Spotify to Amazon because the sound quality is much better.
This album is a masterpiece, one of my favorites from the past decade, and my favorite track from it too! Dan Tompkins kills it every time regardless of the band he's in! Sadly he was replaced by Eric Emery after this album, who isn't a bad vocalist either, but it's just THAT hard to compete with Dan. If you're interested in checking out more I'd recommend Idle Minds or Kaikoma from this album, or Catharsis or Trayus from their first album Blinding White Noise. Trayus has a different vocalist with a growlier singing style and is a fantastic piece of progressive metal in general!
I really think this is the BEST BAND IN THE WORLD today. The potential is amazing. Yeah...sure they have some less than stellar soongs, ....BUT Their good ones are GREAT. The whole band are fantastic musicians.
Honestly, most of the stuff from the first two albums is incredible music to me. Sadly the vocals were badly mixed on the first album but Dan Tompkins (the singer on the album) did a series of live vocals with the instrumental backing track that blow the album's vocals out of the water. As for a recommendation going forwards with these guys, Guiding Lights and The Constant are amazingly beautiful musical journeys, while New Devil is a heavy masterpiece that gets my blood pumping every time I hear it.
OHHHH YES what a freaking song to listen to. Love this song so much - thanks for the video! I always got George Michael vibes from the original singer at certain points in this track.
This album is a tour de force. They have swapped drummers and lead vocals, and their new stuff isn't quite the same, but they're still a fantastic band.
hell yeah, this is what it's all about. checking out new things and supporting those who provide us with something of value even if it wasn't necessarily our thing. respect!
You are doing something wrong. I tried to find you, and tried "surfer reacts", "hawaii reacts", "tee drinker reacts", everything in combination with tool, and you never showed up. Just saying.
