This is why Jacob is like he is. His mother is a violinist and teaches at a well respected music conservatory. She played violin the whole time she was pregnant with him. She went into labor playing the violin. Jacob came out squalling tritones. The rest of us mere humans couldn't possibly compete with that.
You said it so beautifully, #nancydrew5! Couldn't agree more! It's absolutely mind blowing to me - in a good way - what good music can do to and for humans. He and his upbringing as well as career and incredible accomplishments are living proof in a verbatim way! I love to watch his videos not only for music, they are like all the therapy you possibly reel in - and better than the former! love times 1,000!
I bet that did have a very positive musical influence on him. This is probably why cultures have distinct musical traits: Its their prevalence from an early age that shapes us. And before you're born is a VERY early age!
Oh boy - what a privilege to witness such chemistry. I'm a piano playing dad with 2 kids, both of whom exude musical emotion and capability. There is nothing, nothing I can do as a dad that matches the joy I have when we play and sing together. Brings tears to my eyes. Thank you from Sydney - Dave
It's funny because the top two albums I'm listening this month are "in my room" by Jacob and "meant to be blue" by this young artist called Kenton Chen. On Kenton's album he sings a version of Skylark and as I'm listening this is what I'm always thinking: hmm it reminds me a lot of hideaway!!
I love this. Jacob has got so much inspiration from you, Mrs Suzie Collier. I've been to Jacob's concert in Rome in December. It has been a life changing experience. Jacob also dedicated me 5mins at the end of the concert. He is such a luminous and strong soul. And I want to thank you Mrs Collier because your soul is the one who has given Jacob the chance to be what he is. He is changing this era of music. I'm sure you are well aware of this. Mankind is having a step forward in the world of harmony as we know it. I loved this record, it's the first time I have the chance to see you (heard so much about you, though!). So.... thank you again. I hear Jacob's Hideaway has been inspired by this, and I can guess it's because, maybe, it's one of the first pieces that you and Jacob played together! I wish you the best, and I really hope that I will have the chance to meet Jacob again. Most probably in the audience... but who knows how life goes. I'm also a musician, a pianist, and after almost 10 years of silence, but focused study, compositions, failures.. now I'm almost ready to put my works in public, on RU-vid.... only God knows, maybe I will have the chance to be the most happy person in the world by playing with Jacob. The most important thing in this comment, however, is that you know that this 29 years old guy from Rome, deeply thanks you and your son with his deepest heart because you are doing an honor to mankind, in this era of darkness, you are a Light.
Delighted that you both got the frequently-botched tritone in the phrase "Crazy as a loon" correct! Almost no one pays attention to the original Carmichael line on that, including Ella F. But it is so effective when followed by the next line, which is one of those "Toto I don't think we're in Kansas anymore" harmonic shifts in two notes. A lovely tune.
thanks a lot madame to have given us a so fantastic kind and talented son and musician for the world. You must so happy to see him create so well. Congratulations !!!
You have no idea how these mother-son duets touch my heart and keeps me going through dark times. Making music together is such a gift, but you both are out of this world. I look forward to see you together on stage when it is safe to do so.
Always a favourite track- just gorgeous. The poise of Suzie and the laid-back jazz-ness of Jacob bring such joy. Thank you both, from the bottom of my heart!
Thank you. As a father and a man, I'd like to tell you that I really like the emotions you kindly share in your playing, and that you reeaally can be proud of whatever you gave to your son.
OMG this is so beautiful T__T My parents are musicians and I play the violin since I was little. After hearing your son, he inspires me to play my dream instrument now :) Greetings from a chilean in Barcelona!
pianosenzanima I sometimes wish this too. But, you are the musician (I’m assuming).. so it’s in your hands to bless the younger generation of your family with music.
There is an elfin quality about Jacob and his mum. I wonder if his fingers became so long and slender as a result of so much playing or if it is just genetics. I am pondering my stumpy mitts as I type this ( two fingered off course ). Jealous??? Moi????
