I know this vid is like 12 years old now, but I was just browsing player homes and it occurred to me that I could, theoretically, make my own. So I came looking for tutorials and yours popped up. Thanks for this, it's really taken the mystery out of the whole thing - it seemed really daunting before, but from watching this an idle thought has become something I'm actually going to attempt. :)
This seems like it would be a wonderful tutorial, but I just could not follow it. I can not see anything. The video is stretched and thin. Thank you for your hard work and putting this together though. I will just have to look elsewhere. Will still give a thumbs up.
Don't know what went wrong but after doing this tutorial again it is all working now. I've lived in Castles in Skyrim already, but never expected to be happy that I could load up a empty shell, an empty shell made by me that actually loads! :D Thanks LouisAT, thanks a lot! :D
VERY helpful! Got me started off nicely. After fiddling around, I've managed to make the structure of a 3-story (2 upper floors and a basement) house, and I'm now working on the furnishings.
Great tutorial. Just a little added piece of information that might be helpful especially with the gaps in your walls. If you go under edit - position next to the XYZ coordinates there's a number 128.000. If you change this to a lower number like 5 it'll give you greater control when moving your walls. Just use the up and down arrows next to the number. Comes in handy when you need precision to place something.
You appreciate comments, so you shall have one! I already knew the first bits of this tutorial HOWEVER for someone that doesn't it is very VERY helpful. Your furnishing video will definitely help me a LOT, since I'm always terrible at filling out my houses! Keep up the good work :)
@Dethocus yes you can just go to your objects window and items-wepons- daedric- daedricsword click and drag to your render window when your at breeze home in creation kit.
Can you help me? I want to know if there is a way to create a room under Jorrvaskr over that empty room with a room for clipping back on top of Whiterun as oposed to being stuck underneath in a empty room by default.
This tutorial video is great... I can't stand them usually, but this was useful. Maybe it's because you get to the point and you don't get distracted and go off on tangents in the middle of it. Maybe it's because you don't sound like a simpleton who's trying to act smart. Something... anyway, thanks for this, this was extremely bearable and helpful =) By the way... what exactly is your PC's resolution? I've never seen a video with an aspect ratio like this. It would drive me crazy... It looks stretched though, are you actually just using 1080p?
+VeggyZ Sadly all his tutorials are like this. If you want tutorials that are to the point I'd recommend viewing DarkFox127's works. He's still very much active and has been making updated tutorial videos and pretty much covers everything.
+IronBlockGames Normally I would much rather read a tutorial (especially with pictures). This wasn't bad actually, but that aspect ratio makes it a little difficult to see when it's not fullscreen. I just like how little of my time he wastes - most tutorial videos on youtube are excruciating to sit through. I'll have to check out DarkFox127's tutorials, though I don't know if I'm actually going to get that into Skyrim modding... still helpful.
+VeggyZ I believe it's an aspect ratio of 21:9. The monitors with a 21:9 aspect ratio are very wide. Whereas the height of the monitor isn't near as crazy.
Interesting, I guess I've never come across a monitor with an aspect ratio like that before - but I do tend to go for an HDTV in a gaming setup, sooooo. I could imagine it being useful for some people, though.
Just a quick question - how did you get FRAPS to record the whole desktop? For some reason my FRAPS only records the render window, even when switching to Skyrim gameplay.
Great tutorial...I modded on Fallout 3 and this is remarkably similar...but I learned some basic tips on how to get started here from your video...off to watch part 2.
Thank you for this! I'm trying to make a new quest, and part of it involves having a new house, so I've been using this to get the house all set up before I start the quest stuff. So far I'm doing pretty well with it. ^_^ Going to check out video 2 now.
when you go to steam load up skyrim as if to play. When the small black menu comes up before you get to the actual game click data options, and then make sure the plugin in that you want is checked.
I've got a question about custom houses, let's say I don't want to make a custom rather add 2nd maybe third floors to houses that are already in game. Does the staircase have to match up?
If you can see the .esp files when you save a game and there's a golden padlock on the icon try to reinstall Skyrim and the creation kit somewhere that is not within the program files folder, that worked for me.
Open SCK and hit "Save", find your .esp file and move it to your desktop, close SCK and move the .esp file back to your Data folder. (Moving it to desktop will unlock the file, moving it back to the Data folder will allow you to use it.) Good luck!
So you're trying to link two plug ins via a third? The third one will then have to be dependant on the others, kind of like how every mod is dependant on Skyrim.esm. Not sure how to do this, but it shouldn't be hard to Google. (Probably on the Creation Kit wiki)
a simpler way to add a new cell without having to delete everything is to go to the "World" menu and choose cells then right click on any cell and choose "New" and finally, make an ID for it and that's it, you have a completly empty cell to work on.
@WeeTommo224 maybe you COC marker is halfway through the floor or wall? that all i can think of apart from deleting the problematic pieces and replacing them
How do you get out of the house that u built because every time i put my house in the game it puts another door were my door is and i cant get out of my house.
ALSO if you just want to test the area before placement check this out the answer you are looking for is near the end of the video, episode 1 :) hope that helps. I still havent gotten my abode to fit the way i want it too. anyways google Creation Kit Video Library you'll know you found the right site when you see steamcommunityDotCom
Guys, 1440p have existed for a long time. An IPS panel with 1440p resolution, 27inch costs $300 or so. Color quality is awesome but the price isn't ridiculous. Funny enough, people are gawking at 4k and then 2 months ago some of you are looking at 1440p and going nuts, lol. And there is more to image quality than just resolutions.
It doesn't appear when I click on the folder itself (where it is SUPPOSED to be), but it appears when I pick a data file to return to it. I can't find a way to get it on my game, either. Our problems are sort of similar.
Don't you need to set some special permissions on the interior cell's settings to claim it as an actual player house? I wouldn't know, i'm just asking ... sorry if i'm a little too paranoid about this, but this CK is suspiciously too easy to handle! :D
@JakeKP load skyrim (not into the game) where u get that pop up that says data files. click there and make sure the plugin is loaded that you want to test.
I saved my house, quit Creation Kit, loaded Skyrim, typed in 'coc test house' as my house was called but it didn't spawned me to it. After loading my house back in the Creation Kit I got nothing but empty space. The same test house as was build in this video didn't show up. Glad it was just a test house. But how can I make this to work with the saving?
Got a problem making my house, when I put a house mesh out in the world like WRHouseMeadery01 and then load the game it's invisible and doesn't show even if I try fast traveling to the places.. any ideas?
im trying to figure out how to import my own custom models into the creation kit or into my .bsa file in any way. you wouldnt know anything by any chance would yha?
@mrgurth1 Thanks man, I will defiantly do lighting. should be up within the next few days. My current plan is to do a short tutorial on gizmos, then adding clutter and furnishing. animated objects and FX then lighting, NPC's and world placement. All due to change though so stay tuned.
Heck? When i saved and loaded the mod for the 2nd time 3 parts of the external walls were gone? First time they where there but after adding the stuff from part 2 and then loaded it some of the walls where gone...
Hey man, I used your tutorial (1 & 2) to make my own custom, safe-containers house. It comes complete with all crafting, but I'm only halfway done. If you want to install and test it out look up Riverhouse Shanty - A Player Home on Steam Workshop.
Where do I save?? It my original skyrim home not a mod so when I click save and make new file NOTHING changes in the game when I make sure the NEW .ESP file is Checked on my game data list!
if you COC to your house from title screen it makes you level 1 with nothing but the armor you are wearing. if you COC in game it will use your leveled character. nice for testing spaces without full game load.
@RedSquirrellUK I will be doing this buts its a couple of tutorials away, check the reation kit website and chapter 9 in level editing section in the mean time, cheers
@ahan8m Hmm maybe you deleted it from within skyrim itself? Since the creation kit does not install the items itself, merely uses them from the skyrim data. try verifying your skyrim integrity through steam
@jason04srt4 I aim to do a tutorial on NPC's so I will include a navmesh tutorial, this should allow companions to enter / be spawned inside. As for making it marriage friendly (IE, when you marry you can find your partner inside the house) I am not sure.
I'm still not sure how to play my Skyrim plugin in-game... It's either I'm a dumbass, or no tutorial ever covers it. So please, tell me how to test my plugin.
