I hated this mod so much. I saw this mod back in the day when it came out and thought initially "oh neat, a romance mod for my female dragonborn!" And I WANTED to romance Cassavir because he fits my character well. He's polite, nice, and actually fucking respected my character's strength and status. Only to find out that you can only romance Bishop and the other men exist as props to make Bishop seem like a manly man.

Yeah, when I was younger I really really was into the whole “If anyone ever even touches you I’ll kill them” type of possessive guy. Thank God I grew out of it. I tried to replay the Skyrim Romance mod and just felt gross. I instead found the “romance” mod Kaiden. He actually supports you lmao and believes in you. When you go to fight Alduin, unlike Bishop, he tells you you can do this, that he believes in you and will wait for you to come back. Fuck Bishop. He’s so toxic, and so many teenage girls are attracted to it. In fact, so much media pointed towards teenage girls features possessive, evil men. :|

No one ever brings up the fact that Bishop basically assaults the Dragonborn in an earlier version of the mod. If I remember correctly he just pulled out his dagger and tries to cut off the Dragonborn's clothes. Alot of people complained that it was triggering and it was removed. But it's always stuck with me because I got that very early the first time I download this mod.

It hurts me that there are people who *do* see Bishop as the ideal romance.

One thing that has always pissed me off about elder scrolls (specifically Skyrim) fan fiction or fan made content of any kind, is that in a universe, where you are quite literally THE MOST POWERFUL CHARACTER, people still write themselves as less powerful than the boring men. The amount of stories I’ve read, where Ulfric beats a female Dragonborn in a shouting competition, that’s just impossible. Even in a fictional universe, where they are the most powerful character, young girls are still being taught that they should be submissive and lesser than a man

I really hope Cael is taken is a better direction - because you're right, he's the only bearable part of the mod (the kid is pretty wholesome though, sadly his father is a POS). I did find a romance mod for this game that's actually really well done named Kaidan 2. The mic is a little bad at parts, but the character is really well written (plus it's not stolen lol), and the bond between your character and him feels really genuine. And he doesn't start flirting with DB, let alone commenting on your characters features until you've given him the go ahead. He's seriously undervalued, and I think a video from you would do a lot to showcase it. I love your video's and honestly, just all of your interpretations/commentary on your channel.

I've never really played with this mod but I watched most of your vids about it. I hate HATE THIS MOD with burning passion. Instead of making me fall in love with Bishop (or whatever creator of this mod expected me to) he makes me wanna throw him off the mountain. I just started playing this using a male character and just ignoring the misgendering since it was made for woman. I was super taken aback by the sudden cat calling then him shaming you for being cat called when you first meet him. It made me very uncomfortable and I stopped playing the mod for a long while before revisiting it and finishing it. Yea I hated Bishop lol.

The makers of this mod didn't understand the character of Bishop from the original game. He was an asshole but he did display a sense of a personal moral code and once he respected you, he wasn't much of an asshole. The makers of this mod took him at face value and amplified that times ten to fulfill their fantasy of him.

I mean I think he'd be amusing if not for the fact the mod takes his side...like for example him catching your wrist like you don't eat stronger men for breakfast (sometimes literally if you worship Namira) is dumb. As is him treating you like a blushing oblivious maiden who has no concept of sex or romance. You could be a devotee of Sanguine and this guy still thinks he's too kinky for you. You could be someone who hid all the sharp objects in the Molag Bal quest just to annoy the Deadric Prince of Slavery and Rape and he still tries bargain basement psychological warfare on you. This mod would be a lot funnier if it was not so protective of Bishops own view being the correct one. If you could actually give as good as you get and have it matter this mod would be more entertaining.

Finally someone says it. I've refused to play the mod, but I've watched others play it on RU-vid, and I just can't get over how disgustingly sexist it is, and how there isn't a single likable character in it. Your wonderful player character in this made me chuckle, though.

Sadly, the first time I came across this mod, I was one of those girls that was attracted to him. But, I got older and realized: "Wow... That's... Uncomfortable". This mod is the Fifty Shades of Grey & 365 Days of Skyrim. You're the fucking Dragonborn, the DOVAHKIIN, and I'm suppose to go through this romance of a man who wants me to think I'm nothing without his peepee? That he's better than me, the person who can just send him over a bridge by shouting? Like, now I just go back to mod to laugh, he acts like an alpha and it's embarrassing. Everytime he reveals his true side, doing something without your consent, manipulates, guilt trips... I wish you can just take him to the Throat of the World and Fus Ro Dah him off it. He respawns which is disappointing. Also, I find it really uncomfortable with all these men chasing after you. They treat you like you're the only living woman in Skyrim, this rare flower of the land. From what I've seen of the recent updates is Cael being the next romance choice? Which, from what I've gathered, won't happen for a while. And from some clips that the creator actually posted: seems more... Healthy? And hopefully, that is the case. I thought I moved on from this mod but I guess not 🤣, I do like the idea of a romance while going through the adventures of Skyrim, the developers have done a lot of upgrades for it which improved a lot (but all that work is wasted on an abusive relationship). PS: That Bard character in Windhelm. Embarrassing. Throw him into Oblivion. [Updated to fix my grammar.]

For various reasons I had contact with the makers and writers of the mod in its early phases and development. I can tell you from first hand knowledge that the writers were all late teens to early 20s, very inexperienced in relationships, and often people who (as bad as it sounds) don't get out a lot. I remember one(1) gay guy briefly showing up before disappearing after they made it clear this mod is for and by women. Just the fact that the mod requires you to install mods like CBBE (or whatever) to change the female dragonborn's body into this redicious curvy soft shape that is SO UNREALISTIC considering you literally fight and run for a living all day err' day - is a red flag. Its a no from me dawg. Thanks for this, really well put and argued. Dare I say the mod had potential in its early phases to be a lot more than it ended up being. Its sad to see what it became.

For a little context, I'm a male and I recognized a lot of the dialog in this video almost verbatim from an ex girlfriend of mine (besides the obvious skyrimy, cringey context stuff) Thank you for the review I know it was a year ago and you've probably forgotten but you're a hero! Saved my dumbbutt from odd, hilarious trauma.

what really stuck out watching you play this mod is just how obsessed bishop is with re-affirming you the player as female. like "little girl, temptress" just straight up "woman-". even most straight romances. I've read are fine with the guy calling them "hon" or like... just some other nickname, this one seems obsessed with re-affirming it's heterosexual context

i think the thing that bothers me the most is how the mod advertises itself. If it wants to be a mod about being dominated by an abusive alpha male then fine, it can be that. But there are never any trigger warnings about bishops abusive tendencies and especially about thorn on the website or mod page that's easy to see. the only way you can be warned about bishops general shitty personality is if you go to the characters page and listen to his audio sample. But the mod makers would never actually include any trigger warnings that are easy to see because it would make people less likely to try it. Its irresponsible and disgusting.

I went into this mod completely blind. I think the fact that I spent *WAY* more time trying to figure out the load order than I ever did playing it is a testament to just how *AWFUL* I thought this mod was. I spent at least 2 full hours trying to properly download and install everything, and even then most of the animations didn’t work properly. Yet the *second* I got catcalled I was over it, so it took all of about 20 minutes (including the intro/trek through Helgen keep) for me to decide I was done with it. I applaud anyone who’s actually managed to sit through this whole experience, you’re made of far tougher material than I. I vastly prefer Kaidan 2 if anyone’s looking for a decent follower mod with a romance option. His daedric quest always breaks on me and he’s a bit op, but I’ll gladly take him over some poorly written a/b/o fanfic any day.

I'm going to guess the story on this mod is based on an Erotic Fanfiction of Neverwinter Nights that the Author then changed a few things around thinking they may get a Fifty Shades Movie Deal of something like that. Not joking, Fifty Shades of Grey was originally a Creepy Pornographic Fanfiction that EL James wanted to make money off it so she changed the names of all the characters to avoid getting sued by Stephenie Meyer and the company that owns the rights to the Twilight Movie Franchise

I love bishops outfit. So I killed him, stripped and now Lucien is a stylish boi. He's my student so he got a nice life lesson:) Edit: I role-play a necropirate and a bit bard who always attacks the unbehaved on sight, strip them naked, make their corpses dance and still their stuff with no hesistation. Her drums are made of humanoids skin, her flute is made of bones. All her crew is mostly dead. Hundreds years ago she was hated by her tiny breton kingdom for massacring entire city. So the priests of Arkay prayed she never came back to her homeland. Alingment: neutral evil, obviously. Inigo, in my lore, is stopping the character from doing too many crimes, but he likes how badass she is. So he doesn't complain. Because he'd become a khajiit skirt like Terrana did to his slave in Morrowind. Bahaha! Kaidan feels like Molag Bal himself is pissed to do anything with the character (after completing the Vigilant quest it's obvious why, no spoilers here) so he's safe in 20ish castle I installed. Also he's nice to the main character and skimpy armor fits him cause he's a barbarian. Even can go commando why not. Ideal match. Lucien is like Khadgar from WoW and the PC is like Medivh (or what lived in Medivh's shell in Warcraft 2). Hopefully the dude won't become all grey in his 20s like that one did:) In my CODA the protagonist is the same breton necromancer I created in TES II Daggerfall. Also she can turn into glowing skeleton and back into the mortal form as Mannimarco does (it was hard to make this feature working when playing Morrowind tho, it was modded). Only taboo she has is never harm those people you truly love and the innocent animals with no need. Would be funny to make some zombie form of Bishop. He deserves it And, for people who read till here, how much that person would be interested in a puny clown? Maybe she'll have new human drums this time?

I (sort of) have high hopes for Cael - IF the voice actor ditches the sultry undertone whenever Cael opens his mouth (it really bothers me) and just talks normally. Christian really has a great voice by default, but I suppose underage fangirls prefer the incessant "panty-melting" slur.

I had to rewrite my comment because I remembered something. This mod is much, much worse than the NwN2 Bishop it plagiarizes from. I had just finished Neverwinter Nights 2 with the original romance mod. I could walk away from Bishop, say no, and not reciprocate in nwn2. Here? It made the original Bishop looks tolerable in comparison. Granted, NWN2's Casavir is a Nice Guy TM and Bishop is still a piece of shit--- they never normalized either one's behavior toward the F!PC. I will never understand the cis women behind this Skyrim mod or the folks who supported and funded their awful mod. It's just gross, disgusting, and it hurts how it took something serious as abuse and normalized it.

See I wanted so badly for this mod to be good when it first came out but then I realized I liked every other character better then Bishop and I literally only kept him around for his wolf... then other follower mods started to come out and I never looked back. My dragonborn deserves someone way better then Bishop!

Actually, the mod authors are geniuses. They have made a simulator of how to spot toxic and problematic partner and relationship. Bishop is probably the best Skyrim mod ever because it is a cautionary tale. /s Holy shit this mod is bad. Thank fucking God that I never installed this. I will stay with my Inigo and Hoth, who are perfect for little aromantic me. People who love this mod and hail it as a good romance should wear it on their sleeve so we all know to stay the fuck away from them.

Okay after watching all nine 'episodes' and never regaining my sanity...God, this thing needs a rewrite: 1) First and most obviously, MAKE BISHOP LESS OF A BLEEDING ASS PUSTULE. That's the whole point of a 'bad boy/rakish rogue' romance, is that the bad boy becomes changed and redeemed by the power of love. That's the whole payoff! Bad boy becomes better man, but Bishop never changes until AFTER he's already married the Last Dragonborn (LDB) because he thinks he's locked her down for good. Have him change during the course of the mod, acknowledge he was awful and resolve to do better by LDB. 2) Since this character is clearly lifted from Neverwinter Nights, include that as his backstory instead of 'My parents sold my soul to a demon posing as the goddess of marriage.' Specifically, include the backstory of him being in a doomed relationship with a Good Aligned female Knight-Captain. For those who didn't play NWN2, their 'romance' ends when he betrays the party to the big bad and he dies when the castle collapses. That can be included in the mod. Allude to the adventure taking place in another part of Nirn, him barely escaping with his life and sailing towards Cyrodiil to start all over. Hell it can even be implied that the reason he wants LDB to run away with him is because he's afraid that she'll get hurt like the Knight-Captain. He sees that same heroic resolve and desire to help everyone she can, and he thinks the only way to protect her is to take her away from Skyrim. He's still wrong for it but it's more sympathetic than "Me jealous, me hide you away because me insecure manlet." And then from there, you build it up. Have the antagonistic relationship at the beginning, and let it evolve into grudging respect on both sides. Include a come-to-Talos moment where Bishop apologizes for being a prick. Relationship evolves organically into friendship, at which point Bishop stops making 'flirty' comments towards LDB. At certain points, Bishop can talk about his NWN2 backstory and confessing that he betrayed the Knight-Captain. Then you have the flirting, Bishop trying to be nicer, maaaaaybe that first time in bed, then Bishop completely stonewalls LDB. He's lost in his head but doesn't have the words to communicate it. Then you have the confrontation of him wanting her to run away with him culminating in his declaration of love. After some time, he feels ready to talk and it's all emotional and great. He apologises for shutting LDB out, realizes why he all but demanded she leave with him (alluding to his unresolved baggage from NWN2) and the reason he kept quiet is because he wanted to see if her truly loved LDB or was merely projecting his leftover feelings for the Knight-Captain onto her. He asks for more time to think it over and you give him that time. Then you have the eventual love confession, Bishop becoming more tolerable and huzzah happy ending. I'd play a mod like that instead of this...incel bullshit.

This whole mod is just some kind of wattpad fanfinction. Almost as bad as Jeff the killer x reader ff. Almost.

Though I always play male characters and wouldn't have an in-game romance due to the nature of the characters I usually play, I've always been intrigued by this mod, at least in theory, because I believe in a Skyrim story that could incorporate elements of the traditional classic romance story. Then I decided to satisfy my curiosity by watching some reviews and was, shall we say, just a bit disturbed.

Kaiden is the best romance mod, and that serana revoiced mod. And both have the option of allowing you to befriend them. Consent is key, and you don’t have to romance them in every single playthrough. I like having a choice 😂

Biship's soul will make a find addition to my collection then, I'll toss it into the ocean and just let it sit there for a while, maybe toss it into Oblivion or something, idk

Just downloaded the mod and looked for this kind of review cos I feel the same way. I wanted to get rid of Bishop as soon as I found the wolf and he becomes this clingy n toxic guy. I didnt finish the mod and just swapped back to Kaidan 2 right after.

This mod is messed up and abuse simulator all the way around. I haven't even played it because of videos, like this, showing off the true nature behind it. If the authors think that this is romance they are screwed up in the head. For people trying to say they like this because he's "Dominating" and it's your kink...I am sorry to inform you this isn't what Dominance and Submission look like. D/S, bdsm relationships are built around a very heavy core called CONSENT followed by COMMUNICATION. Meaning if your partner wants you to do something and you say "NO" or it makes you uncomfortable than they will RESPECT you and back off. Submission doesn't mean doormat. Aside from that...go download Kaidan. The mod isn't perfect and may have a couple small issues but he'll treat your Skyrim character 100x better.

Y'all should check out this mod creator second game that are in the making. I believe its called Raven of the Reach but it was also called Forbidden romance. Its basically Cael's arc😂

Honestly just download the Kaidan romance. Get yourself a respectful man 😂 I also just don't like all the requirements needed to download this mod. I'd gotten to a point where I'd had all my mods already set up and having to install a bunch of other ones just for this annoying shit was infuriating. (more to do with my personal choices and whatever, but yeah)

Great analysis, I had forgot about this thing existing and how damaging it was. I feel compelled to highlight that this character is written as an almost textbook example of someone with narcissistic traits bordering on antisocial personality disorder. The character uses psychological tactics like love bombing, gaslighting, projection, isolation, devaluation, threats of physical domination, twin flame ideology, and rather surprisingly even the aspect of envy of a partners personal success in career or talent. If anyone would like to educate themselves or has experienced this behaviour it can be considered high level emotional abuse. Further information can be found by searching for the above terms or 'Malignant Narcissism'.

at first i didn't like him cuz he sounds kinda old and really cringey. alot of stuff he says is really corny and creepy. im trying to see why so many ppl like this mod then i remember alot of men play as woman characters in skyrim and then it kind of clicked. but the women who do like bishop concerns me tbh, maybe if you ignore 80% of his character i guess he's ok????
