I've always liked Malacath. In a way he's a god of the underdogs, and generally a just, truthful and protective figure. I feel really bad for him honestly.

Same. The tragic fall of Trinimac into what he is now is indeed a shame. It's nice to know that Trinimac is still the same God he was before at heart. The corruption Boethia and Mephala brought on him wasn't enough to fully break or engulf his spirit at its core

@@ZeroSeriesMMX Well, I suppose it's cause Malacath has more characterization. You could argue that, in Bethesda's work in making the human gods more prevelant in their storytelling, that most of the Elven Et'Ada aren't as well known as they could be. Few fans truly know of the Elven gods or, well, most of the Gods outside of the Imperial ones Malacath's history when he was Trinimac up till now, however, has a lot of characterization to him. Y'ffre/Jephre does too, thanks to the Bosmer But yeah, I want to see the personalities of more of the other Elven Gods throughout time. They have mostly Dawn Era stories, save for the 2 previously mentioned, as well as the younger ones like Phynaster and Syrabane.

@@shycracker Well, "Good" because they taught the Chimer/Dunmer how to live, so they're not as destructive or untrustworthy as the other Daedra (in their eyes, of course) But yeah, they left Trinimac sundered, further dividing the community that their ancestors had lead beforehand. The Altmer were slowly worshipping only the original Et'Ada instead of all their individual Ancestors, but instead of trying to mend that rift, the Chimer abandoned their kin. Sad but true

It is interesting to explore that Trinimac seems to be lefthanded, and Lefthanded elves built Orichalc Tower, and orcish items are also crafted from orichalcum in Skyrim. Is there a connection between Lefthanded elves and Orsimer? Did they both followed Trinimac? Did Orsimer came from Yokuda and just forgot they own history?
@smuggrog9821
@smuggrog9821 Год назад
Strangely enough, in the book Redguards, thier History, and Heroes there is passage in the book that says that emperor Hira, had a brigand army that was composed "of Orcs and castoffs of the wars of the empire". Another interesting connection, is that Malacath is sometimes referred to as "He Who Speaks Sideways" by the Orcs and Diagna is also known as the "Orichalc God of the Sideways Blade" by the Redguards. So yeah, thier does seem a to be a lot of weird connections between Orcs, left handed elves, and Diagna and a text implying that Orcs might have inhabited Yokuda makes this connection even stranger.
@MechaLeo
@MechaLeo 10 месяцев назад
I've had my own theories regarding Yokuda and the history of the elves. Between the lefthanded connection to Orichalcum and the timeline of late merethic and early first age events like the Chimer exodus and the curious overlap between Yokudan and Maomer culture during the sea elves' inception, assuming Aldmeris never existed (at least in the divine form Altmer officials insist upon) it is very probable the Aldmer came from Yokuda or their home island/sub-continent was at least adjacent in the Eltheric ocean.

Once again, Drew doesn't fail to impress. And here, his story is properly able to encapsulate the tragic fate of a once proud Warrior. What I would give to see the Dawn War fully shown Its also important to note that, when the Chimer abandoned Trinimac and the Aldmeri gods, their society had lost the unity they once held, for a time. From High Velothi culture to scattered Tribes in Resdayn, reflecting the fall of the Elven God of Unity. Trinimac and the Old Ehlnofey represent the tale that claims "Aldmeris will only return when the Races of Mer are united as one". Until a great Mer can mantle the now empty space Trinimac left behind, and until the Elven races put aside their differences to face man together as their Ancestors once did, Aldmeris whether metaphorical or physical, will never return.

My point wasn't that ni race will work together, but that man, mer and beast folk need to put aside their racism and theological beliefs aside (specifically the 'debate' of Auriel), for their own benefit. @@kylerBD Because Lorkhan is the most important God in Elder Scrolls. The narrative that Lorkhan is a trickster God/evil God is mainly from the Anuic civilisations, mainly High Elves. All the Padomaic races, especially men revere Shor/Lorkhan as their champion deity. So looking from a neutral perspective Lorkhan is not inherently good/bad. And frankly, a mortal's perspective on "good", "bad" is very narrow. The fact is, he is the God of mortality. The mortal sphere IS Lorkhan in a lot of ways. EVERYTHING that happens in ES universe, every main event in all 5 games has Lorkhan's deep involvement, and every outcome is orchestrated according to his will. The shezzarines are a prime example. So yeah, sundering Lorkhan is not in itself a good or bad thing & something to be proud of, it is only if you are thinking from an Altmer/Orsimer perspective. And neither Auriel nor Trinimac could actually "kill" Lorkhan or his will (killing, death etc are mortal ideas tbf), because as the doom drum said while laughing at them: "For one is created to satisfy the other".

I'm convinced that Trinimac was shown the truth about Lorkhan by Boethiah, and that his "corruption" is actually more of a sorrowful penance that he has placed on himself than anything actually done to him by Boethiah (and maybe also Mephala). Even when you look at the Orsimer (especially the tribal Orcs of Skyrim) and the more traditional, almost barbaric Nords, you see a lot of similarities. Shor is the Nordic aspect of the deity the Elves call Lorkhan; Kyne is the Nordic aspect of the deity otherwise known as Kynareth. So, yes, the Nords/Atmorans _do_ come from Lorkhan, in a manner of speaking. But if that was your point, and you want to get into the minutiae about it, then the Imperials/Nedes also do not come from Lorkhan. Properly speaking, they come from Shezarr, the Imperial/Nedic aspect of Lorkhan. I think the most humiliating aspect of Boethiah's corruption of Trinimac is that it revealed the genuine love he had for the creation he fought so hard to escape. Really a matter of "you don't know what you have until it's gone", and the fact it was taught to him by Boethiah as he attempted to sway the Velothi away from that same pro-Lorkhanic mentality would make it that much more insulting I think. Trinimac's downfall was spelled by his indignation at Lorkhan's deception, and it was only once he was banished from it that he realized how important it had become to him.

Its interesting that Trinimac was the last of Aedra on Nirn and seemed to have chosen not to ascend to Aetherius, i have always had the theory that Trinimac's views on Nirn became a little bit more Padomaic, even though at the time, the Aedra probably wasn't aware of the shift in his perception of Lorkhans creation. Trinimac took pride and joy in protecting and guiding the Aldmer, in being a father to the Aldmer and he wouldn't have been able to preform role he went to Aetherius, it would make a lot of sense for Trinimac to see Dawns Beauty as less as prison like the other Aedra, due to his love for Aldmer, his children in the mortal realm. But just like Drew alluded to in his vid, I think the realization of this only hit Trinimac when he as transformed into Malacath and banished to Oblivion, it was only then that he realized how much he lost in being back in the realms of the Et'eda, separate from his children. I think on some level Malacath might have emphasized with Lorkhan and his love for his children, Men, just like his own love for his own children, the Orcs. It would also explain the similarities traditional Orcish culture has with more padomaic cultures like that of the Nords, Reachmen, and Ashlanders. Now I am not saying Malacath is pro Lorkhan or pro Man and I would say that Malacath is neither pro Mer or pro Man. He is simply pro Orc and pro pariah now that he is the Prince of Outcasts. But do find it likely that Trinimac's extended time on Nirn and his banishment to Oblivion might have made Malacath understand Lorkhans motives a bit more.

No, the Aedra had always loved the creation. They hated that Mundus was made mostly under the ownership of Lorkhan and they were just the sacrificial building blocks for it. Orcs as these tragic pariahs to elvenkind in ES is something that really resonated with me when I first started getting into their lore. It's just such an interesting inversion of the Tolkien school of orcs-as-evil-minions; and Malacath being this inversion of the Daedric Princes just makes for such a cool presence within the total story of Mundus. As a side note I kinda feel like Malacath has the same vibe as people who are high-key hard but low-key really kind and decent. Like Kazuma Kiryu or Joel from Last Of Us or even someone like Jin from Champloo. Especially if you equate being eaten and shat out (gross) with arguable equal existential crises that leave your life in shambles but your honor intact 🤔

Drew, 4 times now I've perpetually fallen asleep whilst trying to watch your videos. I get to a certain point and wake up a few minutes later only to rewind to that point and try to rewatch but end up sleeping again. Idk what it is but you seem to possess the power to put me to sleep, no matter how interesting the topic is. I'm not complaining btw, just noting.

For Elder Scrolls 6, Bethesda needs to offer you and the rest of FM the opportunity to write the lore books we find in the game. I bet they wouldn't even have to pay you.

Imagine a story where Malacath is healed, but an "Echoe" or memory of Malacath remains. Allowing Orcs to continue to serve Malacath or turn to the revived Trinimac. That would be an interesting story.

Lol Trinimac was a bitch, Malacath finally saw the truth behind the lies of the elves when he was subject to their very same ire. I have mad respect for the orcs and their once blinded-by-the-light God.
@smuggrog9821
@smuggrog9821 Год назад
Yep, sure Malacath was cursed by the Daedra but he was also spurned by the Aedra to. People also forget how the Orsimer were treated by thier golden skinned brethren after thier transformation, many Orcs were enslaved or killed by Altmer, Aylieds, and Direnni and were grouped in with Goblin-kin, with thier elven blood pretty much being denied by the other races of Mer. Imo, I believe Trinimac transformation into Malacath, made him realize how fickle Mer and the Aedra could be and I doubt he still aligns with them. So Malacath is neither pro Mer and Aedra or pro Man and Daedra, Malacath only cares about his Orcs and other pariahs, everyone else is a enemy or betrayer.
@ABurntMuffin
@ABurntMuffin Год назад
@@smuggrog9821 That's exactly my point. A bunch of "brothers" were spurned because they saw the true light just like Trinimac. A false reverence is no reverence at all. Trinimac, or rather Malacath found his true people in the Orsimer and in the Orsimer they found the truest of Mer.

The battle at the start, is that all written by you based on in game texts? Like descriptions of the battle, what Lorkhan looked like etc. Or are you taking creative liberties with it? I only ask cuz its very well done, especially the amount of detail. I don't recall seeing a description of Lorkhan in ebony and wielding an axe vs Trinimac in moonstone. Either way, huge fan, was just wondering how much of the intro is you vs in-game sources. Dawn/Merethic Era lore is best lore lol.
@DrewmoraYT
@DrewmoraYT Год назад
I definitely take creative liberties, but I also try to make those liberties as lore-accurate or at least lore-inspired as possible. There's a theory I like that the lava flowing from Red Mt is Lorkhan's lifeblood, and ebony is a volcanic glass found in lava flows. And moonstone is part of elven armour, so seems fitting for Trinimac etc etc.

If you think about it, while it's clear that Malacath certainly favors the Orsimmer, the most compelling part about him is he refuses to just keep to them. He sticks by those who stick by him regardless of *what* they are. As Malacath, other than of course the orcs, there are others, even nords and reachmen, who worship him. Even the minor races often dismissed across Tamriel, such as the ogres and goblins who some don't even fully consider sentient, are not beneath his care. In a weird way, I think this also might be why he acts so relatively chill with the player character who are usually at least somewhat tangentially related to Lorkhan; he might not have wanted to be trapped on Nirn to begin with, but he came to love it both in its own right and for those who inhabit it, and so is usually relatively eager to grant aid in the form of boons for what in the grand scheme of things tend to be pretty intimate quests (avenging an inter-generational wrong, freeing a handful of ogres from a mine, exposing one single liar, and in ESO even showing a degree of favor for simply being willing to learn the history of Orsinium, even if you've directly opposed him before).
