This is how i've added a Celestron Sct dew ring to a Newtonian mirror.
The results are surprisingly what I had hoped for.

Well done Rob! Looks like a very successful modification on your dreaded dew problem and lack of clear skies. Thank you for sharing this interesting walkthrough. Looking forward to seeing what you managed to capture and wishing you clear skies.

Thank you Tam much appreciated. It definitely seems to work as I had 6hrs worth the other night. The tube was frozen but not a hint on the primary. Really pleased. Clear skies bud.

Yes James very handsy. You know what it's like and the next clear one has a great big full moon! Clear skies bud and that dolphin looks fantastic.

Very nice tutorial! The dew ring looks way better than cheap Dew Straps that You put in front of the telescope!

Thank you Avanteesh. I could probably use a smaller ring on the back to do the same job. Clear skies bud.

Nice video Rob didn't know you had a Quattro, I've been looking at one of those for some time so looking forward to seeing the next video. it will be a couple of year before I buy but still can't make my mind up between the Quattro F4 and a more standard F5
@sevenskiesastro
@sevenskiesastro Год назад
Hi Tony. Yes it's a great scope. Had problems with dew though. I'm not sure if it's because being f4 tube is a lot shorter. Hopefully I will get some imaging done soon. Clear skies.

I have a huge coma-corrector in the focusing tube, I suspect the entire focusing tube from the camera to the flattener also needs a dew-heater ??
@sevenskiesastro
@sevenskiesastro 9 месяцев назад
That could be a problem. Maybe a small anti dew ring like zwo do for their cameras could maybe help but i dont know. I shall maybe investigater this kind of issue further. Clear skies

6 inch ring on a 8 inch mirror, correct ?
@sevenskiesastro
@sevenskiesastro 9 месяцев назад
Yes thats correct. That way it heats more evenly rather than the outside edge. Only need just a bit of heat.

I have a 8" StellaLyra F/4 and is seems to produce white haze on most images especially during semi-clear skies (damp) accompanied with moonlight. Maybe this will help me ??
@sevenskiesastro
@sevenskiesastro 9 месяцев назад
I cannot tell you if it would work for your situation but it certainly works for me. I have had frosting in the tube but mirror was ok. I just look down tube and see what its doing. It could also be the secondary and that needs to be considered too. Clear skies
@gunnarjensen5910
@gunnarjensen5910 9 месяцев назад
I put a dew heater on my secondary mirror. Last time I was imaging we had a full moon and some thin clouds which seem to magnify the moonlight. I also have a dew-heater wrapped around the bottom of the telescope. I don´´t know if the heat reaches the primary mirror ?
@sevenskiesastro
@sevenskiesastro 9 месяцев назад
A dew heater around the bottom of the newtonian would be not effective in my opinion. A fan would be better as it works like your de mister in your car. I would keep the fan going all the time as they are usually vibration free.
@sevenskiesastro
@sevenskiesastro 9 месяцев назад
The fan would also pull air past the corrector helping there too.
@gunnarjensen5910
@gunnarjensen5910 9 месяцев назад
Yes, the StellaLyra has a nice fan at the bottom. I thought it was unnecessary in sub-zero temperatures (down to minus 22-25 degrees celsius ) here in Iceland..

Isn’t easier to get a 5-6” refractor, preferably Japan, USA or Germany made, and forget about this hassle? Images will be definitely better as well. Meantime, your excellent skills could be used for opening company specializing in fixing Issac’s scopes and other astro equipment produced in Far East.
@sevenskiesastro
@sevenskiesastro Год назад
Hello thanks for your input. We must not forget that a premium 5/6 inch refractor will cost upwards of 3 times the price of a newtonian. Thank you again and clear skies
@anata5127

@@sevenskiesastro Yes, they are expensive. Therefore, I have postponed hobby for about 10 years. Used only visual and EAA. 10 years later, I have entered astrophotography with premium mount, premium scope and premium focuser.

@@sevenskiesastro No problems so far. Yes, I get good resolution, and don’t need to rely on trickery during processing. Basically, just take pictures without overstretching myself for other activities such as tuning, repair, tackling zillion problems, etc. Plan is to take pictures of 1000+ objects.
