A selection from my performance as the wicked Ash Vampire, Dagoth Endus, in “The Elder Scrolls Renewal: Skywind” project. The backing tracks "The Deep Folk" and "Confrontation" are courtesy of Fredrik Jonasson and form part of Skywind's OST.
Please note I am NOT voicing the main antagonist Dagoth Ur for this audition, but Dagoth Endus, ( elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Da... ), one of his brothers and lieutenants.
Inspirations:
I saw the parallel between the Sixth House and the bottle of brandy, which served as a starting point for my character. Endus should be menacing and savage, but also a man of taste and tradition. Alongside the Anne Rice interpretation of vampires, my main inspiration for the character was the Wishmaster, a cult 90s horror icon with a similarly smooth but creepy manner ( • Wishmaster Valentine's... ).
Pronounciation:
The whole "Dah-Goth / Day-Goth" thing is pretty funny, really. I'm surprised it caused a minor furore. The pronunciation key for Skywind has the "Da" in "Dagoth" as in "father". Only, as an Englishman, "Father" has a soft pronunciation (as you can hear in this video). The American "father" is harder, and I believe was the intended pronunciation. The retakes in the final game will sound more like "Dagger", which ironically is naturally how I would have said Dagoth anyway, had I not misread the pronunciation key!
While the Skywind devs are being largely faithful to the original, they have expanded on or altered certain aspects to add depth to a pretty sparse game by today's standards. I'm a fan of races having their own pronunciations (and perhaps, mispronunciations) of certain words. The Dunmer in Skywind pronounce it "Dah-gauth Oor" with a lightly rolled R, giving it an ominous, tribal quality. They also compartmentalise their diphthongs.
