Danish elite soldiers. Patrolling Eastern Greenland. Each trip is normally 3-6 months with no human contact, except radio. Most of the way, they're on their own with no rescue possibilities, due to the extremely harsh winter - they can not patrol during summer, as they cross many fjords that has to be frozen.. Each team is two persons with 12-15 dogs. Most of what they bring is food for the dogs and themselves. On their route, there are a few old wooden cabins to rest and get strength, but they mainly sleep in their tents on the way. Cabins are filled with food when possible. Matchboxes with matches sticking out are ready to be used in emergency . This trick has saved lives in the past. Yeah, soldiers in emergency have been to cold and frozen to get the matches out of the box and died. I don't think anyone has died in recent years, doing the patrol. Most recent event was in 1999, where two Sirius patrol members fell through the ice, just 3,5 km from a safe house - one of the old wooden cabins. Temperatures at -50° are not uncommon. While it's not uncommon that one member falls through the ice, it's really bad when both members do. They are trained for this, but accidents occur. There are only about 15 Sirius Patrol members in the unit at any given time, making it a very small unit.Probably one of the smallest elite units in the world. Each team has a long training during summer, before the trip. They also have to build their own sleigh of wood, not only to show trust in each other as a team, but also to be able to make repairs on their journey. Weaponry is shotguns and rifles. As well as gear to scare away polar bears. Flare guns are often used for orientation purposes. There are several Danish documentaries to be found on RU-vid and I highly recommend that you watch those, even when not subtitled. Soldiers don't get more bad-as than these guys!

@@lakzefar449 There is equipment for artic combat better than a shitty rifle from World Wars.

@@ATH420 The rifle is for self defense, in case they get attacked by a polarbear. (which is unlikely, because polarbears are afraid of the sled dogs)

Incase you didnt know, the rifles they use are simply for warningshots. And worst cases, self defense.
