Okay Slacks, I'm gonna have to comment on your book opinion, I hope you read this, send him this shit. There is a very important reason to use written language and that is extended thought. If you work in humanities or science and you work on an argument that's more complex than running a t-test on a 30 ppl experiment, you need to start writing to be able to grapple with the argument. Your brain is too small to actually fully form more complex thoughts, so you need the help of writing. In the actual act of making things objective on a piece of paper or a word processor you first start to understand where your argument is going. The textual form has the added benefit of being able to cross space/time and being objective in the sense of different from you and in front of you. So that allows you to treat your own thoughts and the thoughts of others as "stable objects in front of you". Reading is the same in reverse, if you want to learn of more complex subjects you need to be able to read. You could argue that for a lot of teaching material maybe a hypertext could be a better form, but the forced linearity and non-changing content of a written argument in a traditional medium will still be preferable for the portrayal of certain complex arguments that lend itself to linear description. edit: after watching slacks paddling back, i still think he was like partly serious

The TOs need money, the players need money, and the community needs that quality that comes from that competition so it can grow/sustain. I agree with most of what Slacks says about the community being too complacent about restreamers, and how it's not good for the overall life of Dota. But, he went too hard comparing it criminal acts like recording/redistributing movies and sneaking onto someone's property to record in their home. Valve's gotta add a way of tying a license to the Dota TV content that comes from tournament organizers, because like Slacks says, that tournament is putting in the cost (like what, 90%+?) of putting that "event" together. Just cause someone can legally watch it themselves, doesn't mean they can show it to everyone else.
