Slade ~ Boys From The Black Country ~ Slade In England

Narrated by Toyah Wilcox The Boys From The Black Country - the story of Slade, was a one hour long BBC Radio 2 popumentary first broadcast in 1998.
Some years ago I decided it would be a good plan to turn it into a video documentary, this I started and kept shelving as life got in the way or I couldn't be arsed or both.
On December 1st 2020 the Slade world lost one of the uber fans and a name that was associated with the band and their fans since the mid 70's.
Dave Kemp was unable to fight off the Covid 19 infection that took hold of him and sadly succumbed to complications of the disease.
Dave had a kidney transplant last year and his suppressed immune system was just too weak to hold out. Slade In England set up a memorial fund for Kidney research for fans and friends alike to donate to in his memory.
If you have enjoyed this video from Slade In England please click the link below and spare a few shillings for a very worthy cause....

Its rare in the Rock/Pop world to have a band with no ego's, no drama's, no bust ups who just called it quits after getting the job done and still remaining mates.

I never had the honour/pleasure of meeting any of the other members, but I can say with certainty that Dave Hill is one of the nicest, most generous and lovely people you could ever hope to meet. And that’s to say nothing about his awesome talent. He is a true gentleman, with time for his fans or anyone at all. Long may he continue, he represents the best that British music has to offer. A true original and a gem of a man.

Fabulous!!Now,if any record company types are reading this, could we have the unreleased Slade Alive recordings at some point in the future?Consider this-veteran hard rock band UFO have just released a box-set of their classic live album Strangers In The Night, that was originally a double LP, compiled from 6 concerts. The box-set has all six gigs in their entirety.Could we possibly have a similar Slade release, consisting of all three gigs that were recorded for Slade Alive?Worth considering as a 2022 50th anniversary release, perhaps?

Slade made my days, back then - for several years - in coastal Norway. I had posters all over the place! However - I have heard (and experienced), from many sources, that Dave's appearance and costumes were what made Slade never reach the United States. He was just too - something else. At the age of 60, I can understand why. It's not just the music. It is also the integrity - the behavior - just as simple as the "human being". - - - - - - Jim Lea is one of the greatest - the foremost - composers of the last century. And Noddy Holder wrote some great lyrics; however - it was his vocals, that made him great! Lea and Holder - a team that will live forever. In my mind, they will!!

Noddy bought the top hat from Freddie Mercury's and Roger Taylor's stall in Kensington Market, before attaching the mirrors. (I think it's the same hat Taylor can be seen wearing on the back of Queen's first album). The double platform soles Dave Hill spoke about buying at Kensington Market probably came from Alan Mair. Freddie Mercury sometimes ran his stall for him.

@@greywolf907 The first album "Queen" has loads of photos cut up and arranged by the band for the back sleeve. Taylor is pictured in fancy dress wearing a top hat and bow tie. The album was released in July 1973, so the photo was from 1971 - 72... shortly before Noddy bought it, if it's the same hat.
