Back again to get my dose of Christmas from this song. I still admire what Slade was able to create at a time, when the society just perceived them as wild boys with bad English
This song deserves so many more views. it did have over 20 million, but then the copyright holders had those videos taken down. Never mind, view the crap out of this one, play it in another tab even if you aren't listening to it or watching it.
Anyone who was lucky enough (and now old enough) to have seen Slade in concert, will tell you what a fantastic time they had. It was always loud, it was always fun and they always made sure everyone left having had a good time. Unlike some artists of the day, they didn’t take themselves too seriously, and Noddy with that raw voice, I swear he used to swallow razor blades before each performance. 😁 Slade had so many hits - besides Merry Christmas, and well worth having a listen to some of their many songs, not just the hits, on a music app. Great rockers and powerful ballads too. Very underrated UK band. Long live Slade. 👍🏻
Lucky to see them 12 times from 73 to 82, first time the day Noize went in at #1 was mayhem! Success through to playing clubs 78-9 then the revival after Reading
@@alanwhitney3263 Hi Alan. We must consider ourselves very lucky to have witnessed it. Many these days wish they had. Personally I saw them over 50 times during the same period. (not boasting) I recently found 20 tickets stubs in my Slade stuff (20 that didn’t get lost or destroyed) and have fond memories of the ‘nightclub years’ when you could easily meet or get backstage with them. Of course after Reading things were scaled up again. Did you see the video I posted of Jim at Bilston in 2017. Here’s a link: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OvQp94N_UzQ.html All the best. 👍🏻
The best Christmas song ever. Slade is absolutely fantastic. Noddy, Dave, Jim and Don thank you for this great song. Christmas begins for me every year with the Slade Alive Album and Merry Xmas everybody.
Being Black Country born and bred, i saw Slade quite a few times and they were by far the best live band i ever saw, and in Noddy they had the best voice in rock ever, MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY.
The 70's...are the BEST !!! I'm Born in GERMANY in 1960,now 63 YEARS OLD,ROCK FAN and a THE SWEET FAN too,but SLADE,T-TEX,ALICE COOPERare some of my Fav's in my Teenager Years here in GERMANY ! MEMORIES/MEMORYS.Grüße aus DEUTSCHLAND and FRROHE WEIHNACHTEN/MERRY CHRISTMAS to everyone around the WORLD🌍...and give PEACE a CHANCE‼️🏳🕊
A number of years ago some of the students on the T.V. production course in the college that I taught at was asked to make a short video featuring a 'famous' person. One student would act out the talent and the others would make the production. Unbeknown to the staff one of the students was related to Noddy. Apparently he just turned up and was great!
Perhaps the best Christmas song performed by a group equally as good as the Beatles. Noddy has a belter of a voice. I saw a show once where he said it took little time to write this song and he never dreamed it would still hit a high all these years later.
I know we did. Boys' hair was down, and girls' skirts were up. Life was so much less hassle then❤ Okay, time to remove the rose tinted glasses and remember the crap also going on, but on the whole, they were good times ⏲️
And the 3 day week was about to start after Christmas. I was only 13, so didn't care, but it must have been a difficult period for parents, especially if you were working class and had very little to start with, like we were.
It was 50 years ago today (Sunday 9 December 1973) that this entered the UK chart at #1. Happy anniversary! The song is also back in the UK chart, at #39 as of yesterday.
Always my fave Christmas song. This is just a perfect song for having a good time and party. Noddy’s scream is the only proper way to announce Christmas.
Saw them in Melbourne at Showgrounds Feb 4 th, 1973, happiest 15 year old at the concert, couldn’t keep my eyes off my silver god, Dave Hill, god he was so cute. The best performance of my life, my opinion. Long live Slade, never ever forget them🇦🇺😘 3:28
I was at that concert, a young 12 year old who tagged along with my older brother . Absolutely love Slade, still listen to their albums I have on vinyl. This song never gets old. It's not Christmas till Noddy says so.
Us here in Australia loved Slade, Don Powell in his book Look What I Dun, said the band never realised how big they were until they arrived. We had a very special connection to this Glam Rock gods called Slade. Noddy, Dave, Don and Jim, thankyou for your music, you blokes were and are legends.👍🇦🇺
I've been a Slade fan for over 50 years.. and I have all of everything the've ever released over the years.. i have said nothing would please me more for Noddy and the Boyz to get to Number One with Merry Christmas Everybody Again this year 2023 as they deserve it.. best band ever.. Slade absolutely.. luv em 👌
Still the song that announces Christmas is on its way to me after 50 years. I can remember it being on the radio and the Juke boxes in the pubs every christmas
Christmas starts with this song. Iconic, unforgettable, and totally timeless. Noddy, Dave, Jim, and Don thank you for this classic. 50 years on it is still such a magnificent Christmas song.
Just got a massive wave of homesickness watching this, it was a must hear every year growing up in ireland and reminds me of all those good times back then.
The definitely got the credit they deserved in the early to mid 70s. No one was bigger than Slade then with 6 UK number one singles between 1971 and 1973
Together with this belove Slade-song I wish you all the peaceful people in the world a wonderful X-Mas-time 2023! And let's get along, we only have this one world!
Every year the week before Christmas I play a Christmas game with my students, playing Slade the whole time. No Mariah Carrey or Chris Rea shit, only Slade so the next generation also knows what a fantastic band this was.
There is three inalienable truths in the world, 1) threes nothing more certain than death and taxes, 2) the speed of light is the universal constant. 3) it's not Christmas until you hear Noddy belt out this banger.
I was always fascinated by the 'behind the scenes' on Top Of The Pops. Those big grey cameras and chunky wires everywhere. The ultimate Christmas song.
I love these old TOTP videos. I sure wish we had gotten this show in the US, then I could have watched Slade, The Sweet, and all the top UK bands. That guitar Dave has is very cool. Don does love his chewing gum!😂 Great song and a great band. Howdy from the US! 🙋🏻♀️🙂
Yes, the good old '70s what a wacky but delightful decade it was everywhere it seems. As a kid, we moved from the US to Germany in '68 so even though this is a UK TV show we'd still get some similar pop shows there too.
@@Mick_Ts_Chick Yes, great show Disco (71-82), some other great ones Rock/Pop (77-82), Starparade (68-80), Pop (73-79), Szene (72-79), Bananas (81-84), Beat Club (65-72) which became Musikladen (72-84) which became Extratour in '85 kind of sucked by then...
still one of the best christmas songs EVER. i always keep a comin' back to this song, love watching this again and again and again after all these years. merry christmas to all, remembering and celebrating the birth of one of the most beautiful people who have walked on this planet ... so far. may the good god above, below, beyond and within us all bless you all with love, peace, joy and hope. thanks for posting, xxxxxxx
Slade made the 70s great !!! they were always fantastic fun been a huge fan since 1971 and always will be I play this through the year as well as Christmas time it never dates luv it.. and luv em too..Noddy & The Boyz The Best For Me 👌
I know this song is played in the UK as much as Bing Crosby and Mariah Carey are here in the USA, but this is so criminally underrated over here. It never gets any radio play and is barely played on Spotify, but this is a great Christmas song. I don't know why this song never took off in the USA.
I can honestly imagine that in 100 years when there are no cars and people simply fly wherever they want using a backpack, they will still be listening to this through their headphones (or wotever)! God bless Nod the God.
