Slammed Toyota Tacoma // Mini Notch Install

Customer dropped off his Tacoma to get a weld in mini notch installed, he was previously slapping bump stop every where he drove so it was time to notch it to give his travel back!
Had a slight curve ball with the LSPV being mounted right above the axle which would not work with the notch, so we straightened the brake lines and relocated the LSPV behind the axle to install the notch properly!

That brake ballast is called a load proportioning valve. Lets more brake fluid pressure get to the rear wheels when you have more load on the rear.

I noticed the leaf spring setup. The overload leaf spring is on top. I’m wondering if there was a purpose for it that I don’t know of?
@scrapingpavement
@scrapingpavement Год назад
Honestly not sure.. I've never done this too one of my trucks. I've notched a few trucks with this leaf setup, and the one thing that was interesting is that the axle hardly droops when you lift the frame with a jack.

You don't need custom exhaust. When I slammed my 99 Taco, I flipped the exhaust by using the factory exhaust hanger (so the exhaust can set higher), and cut off about 2" of the exhaust tip to clear the rear quarter panel. I think you should of arch / replace the center crossmember. So the center crossmember will not make contact with the driveshaft incase he decide to go lower or when he bottom out. Just saying since the bed is off. Overall great video.

Question I have a Toyota hilux that's slammed. And the problem I had was the drive shaft would scrape the chassis sometimes. What would you do to fix that problem pls....
@notchit3542
@notchit3542 5 лет назад
I had the same problem when I dropped my 99 Tacoma 6 1/2 front & 6 1/2 rear. I realized my drive shaft was actually scraping the gas tank strap bracket, which is welded to the center cross member ( center of the truck ) So I was lucky enough to get a small wheel grander and removed about half of inch toward the drivers side, and problem solved. They do sell a aftermarket center cross member kit, but you have to remove the bed to install. This video is good, but anyone who wants to notch a Tacoma or Hilux, your attention is to go 6" or lower. He should of included the center cross member too. It goes hand to hand.

I lowered a couple of trucks like that ( overload ontop of 2 leafs to flatten them out) last time I did it, I got a ton of shit in the forums about it being unsafe. How do you feel about it? Has it been any problems in the past for you? You probably have kept trucks alot longer than I have/ more experience. Would appreciate reply alot. Thanks and nice work!
@scrapingpavement
@scrapingpavement 6 лет назад
This wasn't my truck, I've never ran a setup like this I've only ran mono leaf with the middle leaf removed. Which people say is unsafe I had no problems ran that setup for a year. I would assume flipped over load is safer than that lol.
@notchit3542
@notchit3542 5 лет назад
My 99 Taco is dropped 6" 1/2 front & 6" 1/2 rear & C-notched. I'm using the factory leafs by eliminating the center leaf. So far after 20K on the road, I still daily everyday. Now here's the downside. I can't load more than 120lb & already went through 3 rear shocks lol. In the future I will either do a mono leaf, 4x4 leaf, or re-arch the factory leaf. Just my recommendation, so you can load more weight and stop hurting ur bump stop.
@L-Noble.YT_Hi.Res-Soundminds

@@notchit3542 this is what I did with my 98 ext cab Tacoma.. I swapped my 2wd springs 2 leaves + 1 overload with the Tacoma 4wd springs 3 leafs + 1 overload from SD truck springs and removed the middle leaf then swaped my factory 2wd overload leafs which has less arch to the modified 4wd pack. And you have to get the 4wd hanger kit to make them work because the 2wd are different size bolts. This spring swap lowers and that alows you to carry weight. This mod alone will lower the truck then you can adjust your lowering to what you want by adding 1" to 5" lowering blocks. Mono leafing is the cheapy way and not really good. Putting the overload on top to flatten the leaf works but you loose the weight capacity. Your shocks are not lasting because maybe you are too low. You may need shorter shocks maybe.
@notchit3542
@notchit3542 4 года назад
@@L-Noble.YT_Hi.Res-Soundminds I agree with you. My rear shocks was too long. Since I replaced with new shooter KYB, my problem was gone. I think the 4wd pack is the way to go. Speaking of changing to 4wd hanger kid. I was thinking of modifying the front hanger position. Because I scrape on big bumps. But not sure if that will cause any suspension or rear end issues.
@L-Noble.YT_Hi.Res-Soundminds

@@notchit3542 Damn if your scraping the front mount on the springs youre really lowered. The front mount metal hangs drown a bit and is welded on the frame. I can only think to maybe gring the bottom a bit to gain some clearance you wont gain much I quess. Also if you remove some metal you need to remember the spring end mounts there. You need to look at that area and see how much you can actually grind and will it be worth it. Also stiffer shocks might help. Another option is to raise it a little to not scrap or if you had a different setup and you did not use leaf springs but coilivers or bag set up and did not use that front mount you could cut it off, but those options cost alot of money. Good luck.
