Hi Bill & Mikes Angling Adventures thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon fishing action! I appreciate the positive comment - all the best and tight lines my friends! Captain Zac
I love watching your videos, especially those of your salmon catching. In my neck of woods, except for a short and limited blackmouth season, salmon fishing is still months away. Watching your fishing rod start bouncing gets me through the cold and rainy wait for June to come around. Thanks for all your great, informative videos.
Hi @maltby_pass5632 many thanks for the kind words and I'm glad you are enjoying this off-season salmon action! I just posted my Salmon Derby Day 1 video which has plenty more salmon strikes and catches! Hopefully you are able to find success during the winter blackmouth season and eventually the 2024 season will be here in full swing! Thanks again and tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi Mark thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! haha thanks for the well-wishes and more to come on the derby action! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Jonathan thanks for stopping by and I'm glad this video is helping with those February blues!!! haha Within a few months, Spring will show up and we'll all be back in action once again! Thanks and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Kim thanks for stopping by and I'm glad this salmon action is wetting your appetite for a great 2023 season! Hopefully you'll keep the momentum going after that awesome feeder king you landed recently! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Truly appreciate your videos, and I miss Alaska! I loved catching the big river Salmon and the Halibut as well as the many other bottom fish! We are the heck out of the ⁵of bottom ,rock fish.i gave away so many pounds of every species of salmon because we found no way or method of cooking them that we would eat. It didn't really matter because we kept our freezers loaded with moose, caribou, deer etc. Great eats and healthy!
Hi DW thanks for stopping by and I'm glad that you are enjoying my videos and that they remind you of your Alaskan adventures! Surf and turf Alaska style - you can't beat that! You've got some lucky friends who received a bunch of fresh salmon! Thanks for your service and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Peeling Line thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! Thanks for the tournament well-wishes and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Haha hey DirtBikeWarrior thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! Yes indeed - it is always great when a bigger than expected fish hits the net! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Nice job Zak. Just wondering what camera set up are you using for the videos that you posted today. You do make some great stuff, and you know how to catch fish. I'm coming to Alaska in August 2023 for halibut and salmon and staying at Island Point lodge in Petersburg and I'd like to video our adventures. Thanks for all your great videos and all your hard work , also enjoy all your time you can spend with your brother.
Hi Scot thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! Sure - I used a GoPro 10 Black. How cool that you'll be visiting Island Point in August. I love that area around the Wrangell Narrows, Sumner Strait and Frederick Sound - some awesome salmon and halibut fishing! Good timing for cohos! I'd love to hear how you end up doing. Good luck this summer and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hi Kenneth thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! Yes indeed - I'll make a video this season showing my salmon setup in more detail. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Good morning Cap'n Zack. Another epic video to start my day, thank you for that. I hope you killed it in the tournament too. I know there are a few species in Alaska, but how often if ever do you see a shark in those parts?
Hi Anneka many thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! We did have a blast in the tournament - more to come on that front! The only kind of shark I've personally encountered here in Alaska is a dog shark - a small shark with a sharp spiny tail that thrashes around. I understand that salmon shark (much larger) are around but I've yet to hook into or see one of these near Juneau. Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Hey shotgunaaron many thanks for stopping by and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! Yes we are allowed to use barbed hooks when salmon fishing in Southeast Alaska. Barbed hooks certainly do improve the hookup to landing ratio! Are you allowed to use barbed hooks in your neck of the woods? Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Unfortunately not in California for salmon. Have to use barbless and I’ve lost a few hogs over the years! But halibut and other species barbed is allowed.
Hi Jess thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! Here is the rod that I troll for salmon with - they are great for cohos and kings! www.lamiglas.com/collections/redline-composite-series/products/hs1064hc-106-salmon-trolling-plug-downrigger?variant=14460139405361 Thanks again and tight lines! Captain Zac
Hi Russ thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! We fished a few spots on this day ranging from 20-60 mins away from the dock. We tried to cover a lot of water since we were practice fishing the day before the salmon derby! Thanks again and tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Thanks for stopping by @Bradleyoutdoorsman - I'm glad you enjoyed this salmon action! Yes here in Southeast, Alaska we are limited to one trolling rod per person. I know it is very different on Lake Michigan where it seems like a competition for who can troll the most rods at the same time! Seems like some anglers there routinely troll 10+ rods! Very different setup! Tight lines my friend! Captain Zac
Makes sense - hence why some charter fishing in Lake Michigan can have 9 or even 12 rods depending on the number of guests! I can't even imagine the tangle when 5 fish hit at the same time!!! Sounds like the regs for Lake Ontario in Canada are similar to those here in AK - 1 rod per person.
@@CaptainZac yeah, the max I’ll go is six lines before as much better depends how busy if it’s really active I’ll just go like three or four if I have another person in the boat
