From these slasher recs I definitely need to read the Kill River series (especially since we are pretty much in the summer months, at least here in the South), Witching Hour Theatre, and The Summer Is Ended and We Are Not Saved. All of these books sound fantastic. I also still need to read Clown in a Cornfield. My favorite slasher will always be the original Halloween. I first watched it when I was a kid, and I was obsessed with everything Michael Myers.
Loved this video! I was looking for a slasher book to read for Gabby Reads and OliviaReadsAlatte's SummerWeen read-athon. You had me at Queer Slasher! :)
I've been listening to Clown in a Cornfield lately it's really Good I'm half way done, can't wait for the sequel to come out on August 23rd. Also Scream (1996) is my favorite Horror/Slasher.
Wow, I just tried to buy a copy of "The Summer is Ended..." and could not believe the prices! Looks like that needs a reprint stat! I also just finished CLOWN and could not believe what the author got away within a YA book. My favorite slasher is definitely SCREAM as well. I love that it's the slasher series that centers the mythologizing on the survivor instead of the slasher.
A big factor I like in slasher novels is survival, characters aiming to survive unfortunate circumstances, using their skills and characteristics that aid them or hinder them in the drastic, terrifying situations they find themselves in - Slashers usually utilize this formula and I find the character relationships with one another heightened, a character's actions can cross-over to another and vice versa leading to relationships being destroyed, built or worse-case leads to that character's death unintentionally by the past actions of another. And of course the deeper the character the more readers want them to survive, that goes for me at-least. There's endless possibility for that factor to take and it changes within the different settings and the character's relationships with one another. A big reason I loved the Kill River Trilogy having finally read all 3 of the novels and the character's interaction with the setting, thoughts on survival that can at times be selfish, and relationships changing for better or worse with each other. Camp Carnage has been added to my list! Thanks for the recommendation!
Clown in a Cornfield sounds super fun and I really enjoy Adam Cesare's RU-vid channel too. Favorite slashers are A Nightmare on Elm Street I and III, Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer (super dumb but super fun), Urban Legend, and Candyman
I really loved this video. Triple Ax sounds really cool. And I saw the Kill River books online a while ago but you're the first booktuber I've seen talk about them!
Just started "Camp Carnage" only read the prologue and chapter one so far, but as I was reading the first chapter when we are being introduce to the character Billy, I was thinking if this were ever a movie, I could see Noah Schnapp protraying as Billy.
I have a recommendation request/new video idea :P SF anthologies. I have read some and would be happy to share those if you want. I am not aware of your take on them but I would like to know. And if you do decide to make a video on it, let me tell you that you set the bar high after the "Sci Fi you haven't read" video.
Why thank you... unfortunately I don't read and review a lot of short stories so I don't know if I could make that list. I tend to prefer novellas and novels
great vid! i love slashers. i'll definitely be checking out some of these!! good to see witching hour theatre get some love :) my favourite slashers are scream and friday the 13th! also as specific movies - sorority row & valentine are both underrated movies!
I literally just added all of these to my “want to read” on goodreads. I have been in a rut with forcing myself to finish, then dnf “gallant” by ve schwab. It was not for me. My fav slasher film is the original I know what you did last summer. I’m a hardcore Sarah Michelle Gellar lover. But I do appreciate the Scream franchise. I’m excited to see how they will keep going after this last movie
Witching hour was a lot of fun. I enjoyed that a lot, wanna read clown in a cornfield. Fav slasher is 🎃 Halloween. Want to devote one month this summer to just Slasher novels and movies ☺️
My favorite slasher movie is also Scream, I love the whole series! Out of all these books, I've only read Clown in a Cornfield, but I just bought Kill River, and Camp Carnage and The Summer is Ended and We are Not Yet Saved are also on my TBR :)
I have never heard of any of these books and have now added all of them to my TBR. My favourite slasher movie is Scream (1996) so, not surprisingly, I will be reading Witching Hour Theatre first. Thank you for the recommendations!
I was just thinking that the slasher genre is one of the few things in my life that I love but couldn't write you a whole essay about and idk why that is. Then you said virtually the same thing in the intro
I don't really like slashers to be honest, but I saw that The Witching Hour Theater was only 0.99 so I went ahead and bought it lol. I also have Clown in a Cornfield sitting on my shelves. I thought that maybe since it's a YA I would be able to handle the gore. Kill River intrigues me, especially the nostalgic aspects of the book. I would never be able to read a slasher with small children, especially right now in light of the shooting in Texas.
@@TheShadesofOrange yeah, I know it was. I wasn't implying that you were being insensitive or anything 😉 I just have a kid around that age (first grade) so I know I wouldn't be able to handle it. If you haven't read it yet, Paradise Club by Tim Meyer seems like a summery slasher 😃
I love slasher movies! But I can't even begin to think of the last time I read a slasher book. Probably Clown 🤡 in 🌽 Cornfield. But it's been a couple years. Anyways, upon your recommendation I just purchased Kill River on my Kindle. I figured it would be a great poolside read, soon.
Who doesn't love a good slasher horror interesting recs Rachel 👍 Also this video reminds me a movie that i watched recently is "Lake bodom" slasher with a twist & based on true events if possible check this one. 💙
