It's time for a follow-up video on VSX as well because it has only gotten better since publishing this video in October 2020. Slate has remodeled all the rooms and speakers, more rooms and speakers have been added and the sound quality has been improved. Wishing you the best of luck with it!

Great vid and review. I bought them and returned them after a few weeks of putting them through their paces. Found them to be an endless rabbit hole, chasing the perfect mix not only in one room, but all of them. And they all sound different. Which room do you use and which set of speakers? Hair pulling commence! . There is a thing called too many options and this for me was the problem. I had just as good of results with my audio technical headphones and Sonarworks reference 4 using their headphone flatten feature for that model of headphone. At a much cheaper cost. Plus you get the room Correction for your monitors which is excelllent bang for the buck. slate VSX i can see being good for folks who only have the option to mix with headphones, but again the Sonarworks plug is much cheaper and basically the same, I’d didnt hear much difference.

Hey! Thanks for your comment! I mostly only ever use the the flat VSX model. My Sennheiser HD-600's are still my go-to. The difference in low end and soundstage is definitely better on the Sennheiser's. Personally, I wouldn't start and finish a mix on the Slate VSX headphones. I actually just like them at the end to check my mixes. It's like what we use to do for the car test - I believe these can put an end to that but I wouldn't mix through them - just check on them. @@LesVegasMusic agreed, they are great for checking the car mixes etc but mixing through them was a nightmare! Too many options. I was hoping for that magic ahah miracle software that would elevate my mixes and masters but I know better that it takes years of practice and real world experience to get great mixes. slate is a great marketing guru for sure. I juts think these will make people crazy chasing the mix if that’s what they are solely using!

Great sounding review. So many RU-vidrs don't level match voice and music and I just can't continue listening. I have a Q about the vsx size, could u pls measure them on the inside, center speaker to center speaker in the largest pulled out way. I have a big head n I've read they can be a tight fit on bigger heads. Tnx

I’m a little confused. When you export/bounce/render, the plugin will automatically bypass itself correct? Is this bypass the internal bypass or is it like when you turn the plugin off? If it is like when you turn the plugin off, wont the levels go up drastically? Good review man

It's internal, you don't bypass in the daw, just enable "bypass on export" inside VSX. There is no volume jump on the bounce/export this way.

Ha! Hey Sam! Yeah, it's great, I love it. I got the sidecar too. It's right next to it, just out of camera. It's worth every nickel. I've got my patch bay in there plus it holds my DJM-900NXS2, Korg Monologue, drum machines, samplers, MPC and Ableton Push 2 along with other things. But the best thing is the pullout rail where I hang the headphones, instrument cables and patch cables I use all the time. Easy access. Its hard to believe I ever went without it. I absolutely love the keyboard tray on the desk too. The whole desk fits me like a glove and it has been quite inspirational for me. I hope you've had a similar experience with yours and I highly recommend getting the sidecar when you can. It's a real treat. Thanks for watching and for the comment. ✌🏼❤️

@Whynotdudemusic Yo! Thanks for watching and for your question. What I like most about them, is using them with the default VSX HD Linear 2 profile turned on. With the VSX HD Linear 2 profile turned on, they're super flat, and sound exactly as I think things should sound. Unlike all other headphones, that have a bump or dip here or there. These are designed to be super flat with the profile turned on, and that's what they are. I love that. I also love them for checking my mixes at the end in all the different rooms. If I picture myself in that room or car, or wearing those headphones and think my mix sounds great everywhere - I know I have it. When I mix with headphones, I primarily use my Sennheiser HD-600 headphones and use the VSX headphones as a final check. Which brings me to what I don't love about them and why I just don't retire my Sennheiser HD-600. I don't think they're that comfortable. They're ok and I wore them for hours the other night but they're not as comfortable as my Sennheiser HD-600's. They're lightweight and the ear pads are quite comfortable compared to many headphones, but with my Sennheiser HD-600's, it's like they're not even there sometimes. Wait... So there's NS10's with a sub... But not without... What gives? I'm not saying the sub isn't often useful... But I DEFO want the NS10's without it! There is even another studio with NS10's, but they are blanked out... I can't be the only person who literally NEEDS NS10's as they are, no sub, for mixing?

Hmmm. Good point. It has been a while since I fired up VSX but I did just download the latest update and installed the Mike Dean expansion this week (which has a pair of NS10's as well) but I haven't tried it yet. You should definitely be able to hear the NS10's without a sub. I feel like NRG studio had NS10's without a sub. I'll spark up VSX again this weekend to see what's going on and get back to you. @josephforrest3713 Hey man! I fired up the latest version of VSX and tried it out on a mix this morning and you were right! The NS10's in the NRG Studio room has a sub and there's no way to turn it off! I can't believe I didn't notice that before! I guess I was assuming the sub was turned off because why would they model (or even use!) the NS10's with a sub when they have mid and far-field speakers in the room?! However, I did get the latest Mike Dean's Studio expansion and that has NS10's without a sub. I didn't really feel the need to get it, but it was on sale after Black Friday so I grabbed it. Now I'm really glad I did! They're very useful without the sub. Good catch! Thanks for pointing that out.
