The majority of these graves are my family (most immediate being Babyak, Papay, Andrulevich). My grandparents, Stephen and Mary Babyak, and my Grandmothers parents, Jacob and Mary Papay, donated the large statue. I can still remember carrying my grandfather’s casket up that hill in the snow. This part of town was an enclave of Slovak, Ukrainian, and Polish immigrants. The graves aren’t terribly old because most didn’t arrive in the US till the 1920s. The Babyak and Papay family owned the local slate mines from the 1930s up until a few years ago. Just realized that you’re the same dude that did the abandoned church in Palmerton that I commented on. So, yeah, the two are connected-same folks that went to that church are buried here.
