Another fun fact: Evgeny Novikov, their drummer, hits his drums sticks so hard that he kept breaking them, so now he plays with the sticks FLIPPED, striking with heavy ends and holding the light ends.

it's mostly because of the different sound the sticks make when flipped, especially the snare sound. Great and epic tales but sound is the reason mainly :)
