I think it stems from lack of identity IMO. I deeply encourage people to delve as deep as they can into their immediate family lineage, what they parents or grandparents did, why, their own personal stories. Your own lineage and family lines has a way of grounding you into your own purpose and identity. When you have knowledge of that, you won't NEED to really look up or even attempt disassociate yourself from a part of history. Some folks look at the slave narratives with SHAME or DISEMPOWERMENT and never truly got the full STORY. Part of it is the lack of education and the literature that they give to the youth but part of is the lack of knowledge of one's personal family lineage. Hence the search for a NARRATIVE to empower you. But that is even futile because they aren't YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENT or your JOURNEY. It's a coping mechanism for lack of.

Additionally, even wooden boats some metal in construction. Essentially boats made in the past 500 years. Men have been using metal since the Iron Age, Cooper and Bronze Age. Lastly, a Middle Passage Enslavement Mission would take way more than three weeks to navigate Africa to the Americas.
