It’s been several months since Jonny Craig abruptly left Slaves at the airport hours before a European tour. Scrambling to still pull off the run, the band took the advice of tourmate Escape The Fate guitarist Kevin Gruft and gave ‘The Voice’ runner-up Matt McAndrew a call. A few tours and now a new song later, and Slaves are officially welcoming the vocalist to the band in this exclusive reveal.

Never heard of Slaves, but I love Matt and know he will bring a whole new dynamic to the band. I think it's awesome that all of you have different backgrounds, yet are coming together out of love for what you do to make something great. I look forward to hearing more from you guys.

Never heard of Slaves but been following Matt’s career since The Voice, in which he is the best singer ever among all seasons. Great that Matt has joined this band, will definitely give it a try

Goddamn I love how happy these guys are...they definitely deserve it after all the bs theyve been through, and hey...bands like Fleetwood Mac, and Led Zeppelin have songs made in the styles of each band member, and it just adds so much more to the overall sound..soo....embrace the diversity!

Dude Jonny is an amazing singer but he's just one of those guys that you can't 100% count on and it's honestly held him back from becoming a superstar. Matt's voice is amazing and I honestly don't think y'all could have done a better job in picking a replacement vocalist because damn, the Dude can SANG!!

Dgd is steady now but not as big as they were. Emarosa just fizzled out in the wind. Jc is curse to bands.

@@Vyngraven I mean, it's not really an opinion dude. Instant Grat surpassed pre-Tilian first-week sales with 15k, Mothership with 19k, and (apparently) Artificial Selection with 29k. They have almost 1mil monthly listeners on Spotify alone and SwanFest drew in 15k people this March. I can't speak to Emarosa's numbers (past or present), but they seem to be doing just fine. Why is that surprising?

Glad you guys did this interview. (Shout-out to the overused royalty-free rock in the background lol); but I am glad they found Matt and even more glad they (later) decided to change the name of the band. It just makes sense to with the new Era/singer. 🙂

I love JC(Jonny Craig) and couldn't get over it. You guys as a band...damn, so glad you are who you are! Your music together is fucking legit. Matt had to fill a big shoe but he pulled it off and your band kept it's originally of sound. Zack!!!! love the beat man! @@seanjxmes If you're set to go on a month long tour of Europe with your band and you bounce last minute without telling your band why, it's a problem. Johnny is an amazing artist, but he has a lot of demons and baggage that come with his addiction and it takes a toll on the people around him, not just him.

Hughesy and Annalise Surprisingly he’s very supportive with the whole thing! And is reassuring fans that say it won’t be the same without him to give Matt a chance because he’s got a lot of potential. Him and Colin are also on good terms so I’m glad everything worked out

He came from the voice and was mainly a pop artist. Like he auditioned with 1,000 years, that song that was in twilight or something. His voice is really good tho and fits with basically everything so it doesn’t shock me that he was able to do it without knowing much about the scene.

As someone else pointed out, he wasn't in this music scene. I don't think Matt paid attention to the post-hardcore and metalcore scene that much. So it's impressive just how smooth he blends in. This band's creativity is underrated. I think their versatility comes from the fact that they have members with such a wide variety of tastes. I hope they don't become too soft and fall-off like Hands Like Houses and Emarosa did.

I don't know anything about this band, but when your old guitar player wrote all your prior material, how about you show some f*cking gratitude? Instead of being all "hurt" about it?!?! It's not that difficult to chime in with ideas. But since you led him compose everything, It's probably because you were fine with riding on his coattail....

I'm not buying the "I'd never heard of Johnny Craig." I'll give the Slaves, they're a well kept secret. But Johnny has been one of the most famous or infamous faces in the emo/punk/post hardcore (whatever) scene for more than a decade.

Sorry but Matt singing Jonny's songs makes no damn sense. Most of the songs are very personal to Jonny. This band needs a new name 4/5 original members are gone. Rename yourselves the Ship of Theseus because that's what this band is.
