That intro reminded me of Jorbs from 7-8 years ago. That (slightly) higher energy memer who brought a community together falling in love with a game.

“There’s still a year since it goes into early access” don’t forget how much Slay the Spire changed in the middle of early access. So much was altered including a lot of the art.

Incredibly excited, whilst simaltaneously concerned that Charles Lightning (the iconic main character of Slay the Spire) is nowhere to be seen!

I'd guess the bird has Flex, and Corrupted makes it cost 0+exhaust? Modifying cards by adding keywords and not just upgrades would be a really interesting addition to the game.

I have the feeling they may remove some of the more iconic and powerful cards (corruption, wraith form) in Order to let the characters forge an identity unique to StS2 while keeping a lot of the flavor they had previously.

I’m very curious what they’re gonna do. I kind of assumed they were going to make something else. STS felt like such a complete exploration of the design space that the games that followed it never really felt like they could do much to innovate on it in a way that wasn’t just a gimmick. Like you said, there’s a lot of stuff that was already perfect in the game, so they don’t need to reinvent the wheel. So the question becomes what they think they can add or change that makes it worth making a sequel instead of just moving on. If anyone can do it, they can, I just can’t imagine what they’re planning and I’m cautiously optimistic to see.

15:10 presumably the grey sword debuff is the strength reduction from something like a Flex Potion, since previously that was only usable from those potions (the chains were used originally for the opposite) so their icons were overly specific, it'd make sense to get a general icon.

I'm calling it. There will be the Shovel-tron 9000 as a relic. It allows you to dig at campsites for relics - much like the OG shovel, but now with SWEET new sound effects and motion blur. Perfect for high-end machines and new consoles!

i mean what would make the most sense for the “corrupted” modifier would be making it cost 0 and exhaust when played but it’s also a new game so corrupted could mean something different

Man, it's really been 5 years? I remember tuning in to learn way back when I was progressing A20. What a time it's been.

I hope it comes to mobile as well. I have STS on my phone and it's the game I play the most. It's just convenient for me to be able to play it wherever, whenever.

If you had told me yesterday that Megacrit's next game was Slay the Spire 2, I feel like I would have reacted with "Oh! Ok, sure, I'll probably be happy to play that". And yet actually seeing this be a reality has me way more excited than I'd have thought. I've enjoyed other spire-like games but none that I've tried have quite had the specific balance of challenge, variety and cleverness that keeps me coming back to spire. It's a tall ask, even for people who've done it once before, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how this new attempt takes form.

STS 2 and Hades 2 coming out soon! Thats a lot to look forward too!

Well, I've got 6200 hours in Slay the Spire on PC alone, not counting all the hours spent on mobile, I expect at least double that for a STS2. Ha but no, there ain't no way I will ever be able to top the hours I put into STS1, I just can't believe STS2 is ACTUALLY announced. REALLY looking forward to its development and finding out just how different and similar it will be to the first one.

So the corrupted attack being purple makes me think it's a curse effect on an attack card. The necrobinder is also really interesting, I'm wondering if the hand will be a companion, maybe a tank of sorts. I don't know how you'd balance a tank pet, but that would be sweet. The flag on the bad guy reminds me of vault from the watcher. It might be a really scary concept that at the end of our turn the monster gets two turns in a row without us seeing the second turn. Edited for adding the vault prediction.

I have to imagine that the sword icon and the sword with the arrow down icon of the new strength icons. Bird enemies are based around strength gain and it seems wild to be hitting for 6x5 if that’s not some flexed attack. Plus in the picture ironclad has a flex pot. I’m personally not a fan of the random remove but it makes sense. Also! It looks like the silent is doing a block animation mid hit in her battle photo so I imagine it means that there will be actual battle animations for characters! This announcement has been really exciting

I would love to see cards being changed or upgraded in different ways rather than the single static upgrade. I wonder if that event screenshot is hinting towards that. Can't wait for more info to drop.

The buff on the bird, at least the two sword ones, I think is probably some sort of Flex type thing? Or maybe reduced strength? They have 4 Sword in the screenshot, but also -4 Sword. Maybe strength buffs and strength debuffs are tracked separately now instead of interacting directly

I'd like to see a video where you talk about things in Slay the Spire that you see as issues which the second one could address. Not necessarily things you think it WILL address, but things that we might be tempted to gloss over in the current game but, if they were changed in the sequel, would make the game even more outstanding. Thoughts of my own: - Boring-optimal gameplay. Sometimes optimal gameplay is fun, but sometimes (infinites, always picking wraith form, etc.) it can be uninteresting. - Hidden information (cannot exhume exhume, face trader event is really a 5 way split not 4, maybe even things like rare-chance and potion-chance, etc.) - Some UI bugs (orrery in the shop when you want to continue shopping).

I wonder if they’ll add a mechanics that you can choose different floor types? Like you beat a boss then go a certain route that’s unique in the way it looks and has unique enemies for that “biome”. Doesn’t need this at all but I’d like some variety with a new pathing mechanic. You still would choose your path within that floor but just have some unique things to fight and look at when it’s a game you dump so many longs hours with. Dunno if anyone else would want the same or similar?

One of the craziest things about slay the spire, to me, is that it spawned an entire genre but is still far and away the best game in that genre... that's INSANE.

I knew I'd see a Jorbs video within a few hours of the announcement.

Curios with the low starting health on the necrobinder if they will have some built in healing mechanic or meta scaling max hp, or maybe summons to soak up some damage. Really hype and can’t wait for more news to drop. This made my year!

The only thing of note I have to say is about the art style. It's not bad; its just very different. It'll probably grow on me over time as I see more of the game, but its the most "glaring" things I can see immediately. Also, I think the sword with the down arrow in the first image is a "Strength Down" effect. It seems like that's what it was doing rather than making the number red or green which can help with accessibility mainly (green/red colorblindness). But, 6x5 damage on floor 6 is insane so the bird is probably an elite or an event. Jaw Worm eat your heart out.

Do you care much about the lore of the game? The devs have implied that there will be more of it, and the video description says it’s been a thousand years, which could imply that this Silent and Ironclad are not the same people as the ones we knew before

Here's a weird story: I first got slay the spire and started playing it right before my first and (so far) only colonoscopy. I got home afterwards and a staple burst after they caught an artery in a polyp they removed. I started bleeding out into my colon really fast, called 911, and was saved from a quick death. At one point my blood pressure got down to 30/10. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy tomorrow..... It's kinda weirding me out that STS2 was announced now.

"Enchant an Attack with Corrupted" makes me think there's going to be a much more indepth upgrade card system, or at least an enchantment/enhancement system to make individual cards more unique with whatever attributes you can give them.

Even though we don't know what Corrupted being able to "enchant" cards still seems like a notable addition - in the current game you can only really modify the cost of the cards in your deck and whether they're upgraded. More customisation of individual cards could lead to a lot of new depth.

I Used to work with Anthony as a software engineer in Seattle. We used to play card games at lunch and he always knew like the average hand you needed to play each turn to do well etc... He also worked at a board game store. Dude's brain just works different. Very excited for Slay the Spire 2!!

In the screenshot with silent in combat, it looks like she just got attacked based on the yellow part of her health bar. She's also covering her face in a blocking pose. I think they're probably going to have better animations in this game.

The most important thing is claw is still in the game! (The shopkeeper has it for sale)

One of my friends is really into risk of rain 2 and brotato, as am i. When he saw the triple i initiative he asked me if i knew anything about slay the spire, to which i replied it's one of my favourite games of all time. Last night he asked if i would like to come over to his house and co pilot a run or two with him sometime and help introduce him to it. Another slayer successfully recruited!

I only got into Slay the Spire very recently, but I'm still SUPER excited for the sequel! Can't wait to see what all you accomplish in the sequel, be it in challenges, streaking, or content. YAY, STS 2!

If corrupted has anything to do with the card corruption, I feel like it would add exhaust to the card. Could be potentially very powerful as a psuedo-remove plus whatever interactions there are with exhaust.

This is really exciting, with the board game in shipping and now this for next year : ) My hard choice is going to be if I play the game myself first or if I watch jorbs learn about everything going on. I'll have to try and do both together and see how it goes

I bet the Down arrow 4 sword is counting down how long till it attacks. Because being hit by 5x6 on floor 6 is insane, so its a countdown to how long you get attacked.

I was really hoping that slay the spire 2 would take a completely different direction. Maybe innovate the genre in a new direction - but this looks like more of the same? I’m not exactly enthused.

I'm so excited for StS 2, I was hopping that we'd be seeing the world of the Spire again in a future MegaCrit game, but never imagined I'd be getting a sequel!!

Can you do a deeper dive on the available screen shots? I would love to see speculative content. I understand it's impossible to assume knowledge about something that doesn't exist, but I'd love to see you speculate on specific cards or buffs or relics or potions. I think the STS crowd is intelligent enough to understand the difference between assumption and educated guesses and I'd genuinely enjoy getting your take on what we've seen so far. Thanks Jorbs.

I wish that they'd overhauled the in-game art and tone to be more like the trailer animation (but kept the UI and layout the same, as is in the steam screenshots).

I love the anime vibes in the trailer, wonder if that will be brought into the game proper at all?

One has to hope that this game is also deep enough and on the delicate edge of balance and randomness necessary to entertain for an entire year of playtime. At the least, I have confidence in this team above any other to not fall into the traps that games like Darkest Dungeon 2 fell into regarding overcomplicating the UI/UX for the sequel.
