26:46: Slay the Spire quiz time: Do you prefer to pick a zero energy card that gives 2 energy and draws two cards, or an unplayable card that gives you one energy if you can somehow discard it? Bonus question: Which do you think NL will most likely pick and why?
NL, this game relies a ton on snowballing before the first boss. Every mistake made early on is 20 times worse than a mistake made late in the run. Every time you take 5 more damage than you need to, you force yourself to rest which means that you can't upgrade the cards you need to. That makes your deck weaker and then makes it so you have to rest more. You have to make better choices early on if you want to win. And please take the good defensive cards. Without the healing relics, the Silent simply cannot take damage since, again, it forces you into suboptimal situations like resting or skipping early elites. You are losing to invisible mistakes. You make mistakes and then don't realize that you are making them. Like taking too many bad cards early on. It feels good to take the cards and you never realize that they negatively affect you later on. Every time you draw one of those bad cards instead of something you need or when your bloated deck causes your neutralize to come up less often, those extra cards hurt you. Please play slower and consider how your choices now will affect your run later.
NL It's actually better to retain a wound if you have nothing else to retain because then it doesn't take up a draw spot for a better card once it's shuffled back into the deck (unless you have enough card draw that the wound would cause you to max out)
Nl, baby, my lovely egg, when fighting the cone guys, think about how much damage each debuff reduces. A neutralize weakens for 25% but piercing wail reduces the damage by a flat amount. So you took 3 whole extra damage that turn because you wanted to take off all the artifact buffs, which wouldve happened even if you played neutralize first :P small thing but the idea can be extrapolated.
I just love how he enters these fights with such confidence but it takes one miscalculation and you just hear it drain from his voice but its back like a second later as he makes a new mistake. Its really great, entertaining, and honestly just feel good stuff. Like watching a friend get drunk and you know he is going to make a fool of himself and while you could step in, slow his intake, and get him a ride home, you instead step back and pull out your phone, ready to record.
Why are you afraid to replace the Silent's trash initial relic for an awesome, +1 energy boss relic? I honestly just do it whenever it's available. (For Silent)
Agreed, I think the Silent’s starting relic is overrated. You can get it’s exact effect from bag of preparation anyway. At least ironclad’s relic isn’t completely replaceable.
Snake ring is just garbage though. I also replace it every time. +2 draw on turn one is barely anything. I feel like even something bad would be better... Like +energy but not Sozu for example.
Whenever you see a catalyst early game, you take it, and you build poison. That was there mistake. Also he's stopped taking Deadly Poison, even when he *is* going for a poison deck, which is a huge problem since it's one of the better common cards for The Silent.
33:30 no man, we're not kidding. You have no defense. It's why you also have no health. Defending is not embarrassing man. You'll eventually learn how to play my friend.
5:00 Pro Tip for those out there on the boss fight with 3 enemies, kill one of the outside ones first. That way you only have to deal with 1 enemy attacking per turn.
Jesus, he's taking every card again. He's never progressing again is he? EDIT: 14th floor, over 20 cards. Jesus I hope he gets better when he gets back, I'm not sure how much more of this I can watch.
It was honestly infuriating to hear him say “I did think about taking zero damage but if we can’t take one damage we’re done anyway.” What actually are you thinking my dude? Choosing to take one damage for literally no reason just to prove you can? Then you end the fight at 6 hp and realize you you could have had 17% more. Also in the next combat he defends when he already had exactly the same amounted block as the enemies were dealing.
21:00 nl thinks this is wittling, he didn't see austin's champ run where he literally could do no damage on ascension 13 and then did 3hp for every hit he took but put up 999 defence and literally wittled inches off it turn by turn eventually winning.
Yep, the champ farmed up the strength while he blocked it all, and then threw in the next area to eat his burgers rather than repeat the whole thing over again.
Does anyone know of these people he's talking about at 5:50? I feel like I read the comments on almost every StS video and haven't come across a single comment asking why he doesn't discard dazes. It comes across like he's trying to make up imaginary people who he can clearly diffuse to make himself seem better... probably reading too far into it, just another NLism.
No, you're right. It's the same thing when he claimed people told him ice cream is a middling relic. He's just making shit up. No one thinks those things.
He also regularly says something like "I know you're not going to be a fan of this play..." and then does something which is obviously the correct play. Then he'll do something dumb without mention.
I swear to GOD Ryan, how in Jesus name is making your deck 4% better by removing a single strike in a 25-card deck better than upgrading nine cards? You're still using those Strikes and Defends almost every turn! If you upgrade all your defends, maybe you won't take a ton of damage! You're so crazy about statistical upgrades in Isaac, I can't understand why you would rather make your deck marginally thinner so you draw the 60% of cards that aren't strike or defend 4% faster, instead of making 40% of every card you draw better! There's just no way of justifying it!
He never thinks. Also you're explaining something with math. He's demonstrated time and again an inability to calculate simple single digit numbers... now you're dragging percentages into this. Good luck with that mate.
God the misplays come so quickly. In the first elite fight if your gonna use piercing wail AND neutralize then you definitely use neutralize first so that the piercing wail makes the target’s attack even weaker. You’d have taken 3 damage instead of 6. Not a major misplay but the small ones add up.
20:15 You think the right play was Sucker Punch > Piercing Wail > Defend or something? I mean maybe but don't you think Leg Sweep > Piercing Wail might have been better?
Instead of using a fire potion to kill an obylisk this turn, im gonna save the potion, take 6 damage....and then use the potion next turn anyway..to kill the same monster you could have killed 1 turn earlier..
At 25:15 you would be 33% more alarmed, as weaken does -25% damage and without it the enemy would be doing 75%->100% which is a 33% increase. Assuming we can quantify alarmedness with damage taken
If your only means of poison is Noxious Fumes the Specimen isn't that useful. I know you talked yourself out of taking White Beast but you pretty much gave away it's great potential when you said "it would be good if I paid attention to poison"... right, therefore, it's *good.*
And I'm out of the series again. I figured he has to be good now after skipping 70 episodes... No no no I'll take a discard card for 1 free energy if I can use it maybe over 2 free energy for free every time. W...T....F
"get no block in my like 40% block deck" well when you have 24 cards it happens im not the best at the game but you might want to value getting cards out more and stop picking up junk that does not help you all the time. Also, flex and using an ancient potion stops the str from leaving at end of turn works with multiple flex if you have small deck and draw or multiple flexes I guess if you went that way.
And that's where you're wrong. The misplays combined with hoarding bad cards (dagger spray still, trying to play discard meta with only a single relic, never skipping cards etc...) It's time to come to terms with the fact that the egg is terrible at StS.
Everyone who wants to name your favorite relic please, im curious of what people go for. It does not have to be the best just what you hope to see ever run. I personally like magical flower (heals work 50% better) better than any other relic
Dead branch is amazing, even if you get it when you have no exhaust synergies it still gives you free cards whenever you have a daze in your hand at the end of a turn.
Dead branch reminds me of sneko eye on the whether you want it or not zany but not without use. There are times when they are amazing and times when they are not; however from the start they are not without fun (if you know what you are getting into). I can understand how someone could love it.
NL. Mai dood. Just stop trying to force discard meta... The silent should focus on protection. You take cards that look good on paper but are just not practical. Thus wasting space.
why do you retain a basic attack or block? they are the worst cards in your deck so why reduce your draw and chanse to draw a good card just to have a base attack or block explain your eggy logic
