I am 75 years old I play the blues on my Les Paul But theze guys I absolutely rate, they are unique in every way and I envy the job of the dance/tech/drink specialist, who is so so cool I wish I was him. Love you boys.
@@davidvaillancourt5111 Well, this is the best thing I've ever heard, and I'm over 1000 years old and live in a disused swimming pool. Where does that leave your argument!?
@@aardvarkmcgillicuddy get your biometric chip ready for the revolution,it's way more convenient to have it than arse about with pitchforks and blazing torches of politician fat. Just think of the mess it'd leave... I'm stocking up on bleach and yard brushes.. Think future, See profit.
This is where it started for me. Bless Jools for spreading proper artists! This was a pivotal moment in the British Canon of ,music. One for the books.
Absolutely, without doubt, the best version of this song. The raw power, which builds up quickly, has your screaming JOBSEEKER at your monitor! Great version, guys!!
Yes, a great act / band is when their live music is better than the album. Radiohead are better live...; a totally different vibe of course, however still often a protest song of sorts.
The best band i've heard in years. No pretense whatsoever, and powerful delivery. So refreshing to see a DJ just chilling having made the track, just kickin back and letting Jason tear the place down
@@kenjones6441or you could be an adult and realise everyone has different music tastes? 😂 It says a lot about yourself replying to a comment of someone expressing their love for a band and giving them a negative response ✌🏻
No, don't worry. You're a individual with passion, a pulse and a quest for clarity. I have to thank Radio 6 for bringing me home to this. I saw them in Kingston in Feb this year and my yearning is immeasurable. Tell it like it is: platitudes suck...
After the first wave of COVID in the UK recedes, as the economy stutters back to life, as people grapple with mental health issues, this Sleaford Mods classic appears more relevant than ever.
*current 21st century, and more than just Britain too. I'm Canadian. Been looking 5 months, lying on my resume, taking a .5 of xanax before my interviews, asking lots of questions, tons of experience and charisma. Still no fucking job in sight. And they still ask me what I've been doing to find work when I collect benefits, and ask to see my bank statements. Humiliating, fuck those cunts. Good thing the only thing on my bank statements besides rent is buying alcohol or occasionally going to the (WEEEEED) dispensary, and they can't do fuck all about it. I love the look on their face.
Haven't been hit in the guts by a song like this since Old main drag by the Pogues. The harrowing despair and descent into deprivation are brilliantly constructed. And etched in the mind of the listener.Powerful stuff.
"How to make everything else sound redundant" - very clever word-play, and spot on! I am struggling to adequately describe how original, fresh, and essential these guys are. And, I defy you to find ANYONE as damn charismatic in front of a mic today. Astonishing.
and yet.. people don't want to hear it. it's too real. music these days serves the purpose of distraction and escapism - more than ever in any case. it's all turned into pop mush. I think they're just ahead of the curve
winged hussar you gotta point. but Grenfell Tower is an example of what he's speaking of imo. I think the Tories could be screwed at the next election because of it.
winged hussar I’d take Corbyn over these cunts we have on Government now, because at least Corbyn has compassion and understanding of the working class. These Tory cunts are heartless, and they’re creating more misery for millions of people. Picking on the poor and disabled in our community, shame on them.
i agree but i'dd like the universe to stay like it is so you can keep your own face beautifull like it seems to be.. im not english ..speak french but you get the point..lol..first its not a dating site..so ....sorry... but facts are facts.. wanna see your lips...lol... please miss.
This is pretty much the best song by the best band of the last ten years. Stunning piece of work. Andrew supping and dancing, Jason just magnificent. What a tune, what lyrics!
The Casio calculator synth is pure fucking genius for a kick off. The vocal delivery has limitless cold fury. The hatred for back to back shit jobs burns through the track like a blow torch. Saw these guys at Rock City Nottingham which has the perfect mosh pit with a sticky floor. Go see them!
I've seen this band three times and they are all in my top ten gigs of all time. The energy and humour at the gig, especially in the crowd, is second to none.
Sparrowhawk yes was pissed when I wrote it. Was thinking of only that those at the top went bankrupt and lost their own money (probably under their bed arf) . Just hate the big divide.
Fair enough, but i reckon the reality of bankruptcy is that the people at the top still make it out fine by liquidating assets while average Joe just loses his barely minimum wage job
I've seen Sleaford Mods every time they've played Glasgow and every time the venue gets bigger. For 2 guys, they radiate more energy, honesty and aggression than some fully kitted out bands.
With the recorded version now on Spotify, it’s quite crazy how different the lyrics are, also crazy how much better they sound live than recorded! Maybe because I’ve listened to this version too much I just can’t get used to the recorded version. Still, my favourite band ❤️
What a load of crap. When you're singing about previously holding down 3 management positions but have thrown it away because you can't keep your fingers off the twenties then I don't think you're the voice of dissent against the government. You're the voice of everything that's wrong with this country and by suggesting otherwise you're insulting the real working class like the hard working steel workers that have recently lost their jobs.
Don't take everything Sleaford Mods say in their music so literally mate. Mr Williamson may of held down three management positions, but he's also old enough and wise enough to have done a lot of shit - like most people his age, myself included. For the first time in a long time the 'Mods are talking about things that matter...they can express the fact the tories don't give a shit about me, you, or anything except themselves and use their music for a rant. I'm sure they are probably also as angry as you and me are about the closure of the steelworks. Me?...I'm just glad to have something new I can listen to and relate to. All the best chap.
Utterly mesmerising. I can't decide whether this is a song or a poem. Don't s'pose it matters. Either way, if you've ever been a 'jobseeker' then this will hit home.
The nuts... & this performance is probably my favourite performance... Punk/ Hip Hop / Artform - & best of all, the music gets your blood pumping like nothing I've seen in 20 years...hats off to both of them, I love their success story - guys my age mixing an eclectic take on (broadly) punk & hip hop .... Punk-Hop? Lol just great, passionate, 'makes me want to stick on repeat, grab a beer + whack up the vol... Proper aggressive in your face 'real' punk, hip hop beats & social commentary, unique way of rapping that is really innovative & makes them proper British Hip-Hop to me, especially set against the album tracks - as innovative as The Four Owls and as hardcore as Grime, they are equally as valid & have a huge, diverse & innovative back catalogue. They can also play better with that aggressive edge live, which brings out the real spirit of the music as the best Punk groups did. Which brings the Punk element right out... to me they are the only act in the UK doing truly modern punk music... But to be all that, give away all your music for free & make profit on the vinyl sales to collectors / those with £££s to burn... Cool Bastards!! They haven't changed one bit, were hilarious & just 100% @ Glastonbury.... They seem to be getting better & better, and it's nice to hear some more chilled funk beats worked into the main beat - subtle. Bastards. I'm 45 & I'd love to be that cool, doing that for a living. JOKE - Two working class guys end up making proper quality cool tunes, lyrics & beats in their mid 40s... without compromising an inch in what they do. Like the laptop stand - that & Andrew happily bopping away to his beats... completely broke the mould. Trailblazers. Got me checking new music after getting bored. The only band that speaks right to me, expresses who i feel I am, my conflicts, my world... not many artists left of that mould... Original Pirate Material for these times - Deffo up there with that classic - Love 'em :-)
I've watched this video so many times, always makes me laugh, always makes me jig - Sleaford Mods are a class act. I recommend English Tapas to anyone who hasn't heard it yet, an album every bit as good as this song. This song was one of those "no idea why I clicked" videos from YT which I'm so glad I did. Brilliant.
A shade of Ian Dury in the sarcasm and style of lyrics and delivery. Fukin great stuff. JCC was the 1st guy I ever saw on stage. I was a young punk at my 1st gig, Siouxsie and the Banshees and this bloke comes on. I thought he was goin to introduce the support band and he starts doin "poetry" I thought WTF is this? for about 30 seconds and then I was totally into it and have been for over 40 years. Ja... an aging celtic punk and descendant af Druids
Met Jason on a plane coming back from Berlin. Level-headed, familyman with good business acumen. It was good to confirm that Tied Up In Notts was filmed on the 45 bus to Gedling.
You know, as a professional musician/recording artist myself, I *could* wax lyrical about the genius to be found within the fabulous output from the Sleaford Mods. But that would ruin the point. I think the *actual* point is the fact that it's brilliantly *non*-music. They don't just stick two fingers up at the music establishment - they stick two fingers right up the cracks of the arses of the music establishment, and tell them to go fuck themselves while they're at it. Over the years, I've worked with a massive variety of artists, but I've *never* happened upon anyone quite like the Sleafords. They are the personification of 'zero fucks given', laid out on a silver platter of brilliance. It's as simple as that. Fucking *bravo*, chaps.
when the job person asked me what job I would want to do, I answered one that doesn't make me want to end my life. can totally relate. I am ok. life is gift.
Hey man, I'm 26. Back living with my parents after being unemployed a few months due to a nasty, nasty fucking work environment, but I've gained a lot of experience/skills since 22 and could now reasonably get into a union position paying $30 an hour or over here as long as I can just get a new job to leverage myself into it. At 22 I was super fucked and with no skills, no girl, no nothing. At least now I've got a beautiful wife who will stick by me through anything. You can do it mate, I'm in a shit cycle as well, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. I wish the best for you. I don't know what you do, but the trades are amazing, and if you're an idiot like me and don't have an education you can even make more than the tradies if you're willing to work in the "custodial arts" for the hospitals or school boards lol.
Anyone who was a teenager here in California back in the late 70's and early 80's would remember well the origins of punk, and would probably agree that if you could time-travel, you could take the music of the Sleaford Mods and put it on the sound system of the Odyssey in West LA, on a Wednesday night (punk night) and it would fit in perfectly. Sleaford Mods are the best thing to come along in a very, very long time.
Well, these guys are just the latest in a long line of folk who sing about the English working class experience. I remember back in the day a song with a similar sentiment from a fairly well-known English band called The Clash: Career Opportunities. The lyric “They’re gonna have to introduce conscription, they’re gonna have to take away my prescription” resonates with me today because that is what governments ended up doing. First with so-called YOP schemes (later transformed to YTS), then sanctioning people for not looking for work. Yet, still the ruling class here won’t give ordinary folk the skills/education they need to get quality work and good careers… The thing is that, with a wave of AI heading our way that will make even many office-based and customer-facing roles redundant, we’re going to need more welfare benefits. Time for a universal basic income. Give people a few hundred dollars a week (without having to sign on and have interviews with Job Centre staff) and, who knows?, they might do something creative and value adding with their time…
The message is so real yet the guy next to him holding a beer like he just got plucked from the nearest pub and they said "here, drink up and just enjoy yourself" almost made me piss my pants! Great performance, gimme some more please!
All I'm listening to now is the sleaford mods...can I be your bez..fuck off music mixed with rave ..electric raw punk lyrics banging beats..original music..keep it up..goose pimple shiver down spine comedy realism
