Former Stanford Sleep Psychology Fellow Sharon Maroukel discussed key concepts in sleep medicine relevant to pain management, how poor sleep can exacerbate pain, and how pain can disrupt sleep.
Dr. Sharon Maroukel is a licensed clinical psychologist working at the Palo Alto VA, in the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) team. She completed a behavioral sleep medicine fellowship within Stanford University’s Sleep and Circadian Health program, where she developed a specialty in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and other evidence-based interventions for patients with various sleep disorders and comorbid medical and psychiatric concerns. She earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology in San Francisco. Her professional goals are to serve within a specialty health clinic, with specific interests in behavioral sleep medicine, while also engaging in education/training, supervision, and research opportunities.
