I think this was a metaphor for us the audience. At the end, Brandon said that his victims didn't know about the love he had for them after he became invisible, like a content creator behind the scenes of their posts. A recent comment about having met him off-cam said that he was so much nicer than what he seems (kind of like the interaction here).
