In this insightful webinar, we explore effective sleep strategies tailored for individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). Sleep and memory researcher, Dr. Glenna Brewster, delves into the significant relationship between MCI and sleep disturbances, highlighting how improving sleep can help maintain cognitive function and delay the progression to dementia.
Key topics include:
Understanding the prevalence and impact of sleep disturbances in MCI.
Practical lifestyle changes to enhance sleep quality.
The importance of a regular sleep schedule, healthy diet, and relaxation techniques.
Creating a sleep-conducive environment and adopting good sleep hygiene practices.
We are excited to introduce Dr. Glenna Brewster, an Assistant Professor at the Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing, Emory University. She is also the founder of the Mind At Rest Research Lab.
Dr. Brewster’s research focuses on two main areas:
1. Sleep and Dementia: She studies sleep problems in people with early-stage dementia and their caregivers. She develops special programs to help both groups sleep better. One successful program showed that both people with dementia and their caregivers had fewer sleep problems after just four weeks.
2. Caribbean Caregivers: Dr. Brewster works to create programs for caregivers in the Caribbean to help them better care for people with dementia. Pilot study in Jamaica
Dr. Brewster has received over $4 million in research funding from various organizations, including the National Institute on Aging and the Alzheimer’s Association. She has earned multiple awards for her contributions to the field.
CEP Community Live is a supportive space that offers weekly informative videos and discussions for those with early-stage memory loss, also known as mild cognitive impairment (MCI), their care partners and families, and clinicians.
MCI is a condition characterized by a noticeable decline in memory and cognitive abilities that is greater than what would be considered normal for a person's age but not severe enough to interfere significantly with daily life activities. It is a transitional stage between normal age-related cognitive changes and more serious cognitive impairment, such as dementia.
CEP Community Live is supported by the Harriet and Charlie Shaffer Cognitive Empowerment Program. Through a unique research partnership with Emory University and the Georgia Institute of Technology, the Cognitive Empowerment program is a research program designed to co-create a sustainable learning community that promotes joy, purpose, brain health, and wellness through innovation and personalized lifestyle programs, technologies, and physical environments.
Our vision is to empower people facing memory loss and cognitive changes by creating an evidence-based model for lifestyle interventions that can be replicated nationally and internationally.
Our programming includes cognitive training, physical training, nutrition, support groups, and a host of other topics to increase their sense of empowerment and community and hopefully decrease their symptoms.
