It always gets me how he ends the word run in the line "deeper than the scars could run." It legit sounds like he is singing through tears.

As someone who self harmed for a very long time and had parents that found out, what I took from the lyrics is that it's not from vessels view point but perhaps his mother's, or even someone else's. A mother singing to or about their child.

I am so happy you were able to connect with this song. To shed light on the fact why this song stands out so much in ST's discography (which is already eclectic), I heard (can't say from whom) that this song is written from the perspective of Vessel's mother (or mother figure) about Vessel's self-harm attempt. That's why it is written with the classic music his mother is accustomed to, and this also explains the sad and happy mood (worry and love of a mother) as well as the lyrics itself: I think this is Vessel's way of saying sorry and reminding us that no matter how much we give up on life, there are people around us who won't give up on us with an unconditional love.

That makes so much sense actually. As a mother, that hits me even harder.

oh wow, I saw something about a miscarriage so I’ve been reading the lyrics from that perspective, but I like this perspective a lot better. can only imagine how his mom must feel having one of THE most talented and influential kids in the entire history of music.

I lost my only son to alcoholism in 2015 he was 31, and that line I cannot fix your wounds this time goes right through my heart because my ex and I tried so hard to help him and get him help, including rehab and psychiatric hospitals but he passed away in my living room at 1 am from the damage alcohol had done to his heart.I found him in the floor did cpr but he was gone. I miss him every day with a depth and poignancy only another mother could fully understand. I love you so much Daniel miss you with every heartbeat in my chest.

I love your analytical approach to their music. That being said you really do a disservice to both yourself and Vessel by overlooking the lyrics. He’s a lyrical phenom as well. This song is a weird juxtaposition. Extremely sad and haunting lyrics coupled with a major key and almost happy melody. I love it. I’m glad you went back and listened to the lyrics after the musical analysis. Heavy stuff man. Keep doing your thing, it’s awesome!

Agreed! The chorus of Take Me Back to Eden is what pulled me on cuz there was something devastatingly beautiful about "my my your eyes like fire, I'm a winged insect you're a funeral pyre" I damn near gave myself whiplash pulling the song up in Spotify. His lyricism is so deep and rich it's such a rare treat. And paired with his voice too? I've been obsessed for months

So happy to see this one being covered in a react, I feel like a lot of the reviews I've seen have brushed it off because it doesn't fit the vibe of the rest of the album, but I think that makes it all the more poignant. Definitely one of the standouts from the album for me, definitely the most emotionally resonant.

Whoa whoa whoa i was not prepared to see you breaking down THIS song next. 😢 The piano is Vessel's instrument of choice (apart from his own voice ofc) and you see him on the keyboard often times in concert. Thank you for explaining how they get that og thumb picking, finger sliding, fuzzy sound to the song bc i love the power ballad vibe i get from this. Also, anyone who's sung in their local church or grade school choir (me) will tell you they were taught to enunciate any word that started with the letter "i" with instead "h" in order for the audience to better hear the word correctly. Gracias!

Toward the end, after the bridge, the drummer simply switched from hitting the crash cymbals loudly (using the shoulder of the stick) to then hitting the ride cymbal softly, using the tip of his stick. It's rare that drummers ever change time signatures to transition from a bridge to the ending of a song - you may be confusing this with tempo changes or changes to a groove that ultimately is still in 4/4. The drummer was clever in using dynamics and cymbal choice to conclude the bridge of this song.

@GGaby_Dv 11 месяцев назад
I agree that you can take a read to the lyrics even before a songs starts so you can think about how a band can reap the emotion (or whatever the lyrics are about) and deliver it to the whole music. In every reaction you do such a great analisys, you obviously love music so why not complete that to the whole

I think having a standard structure, and for them very straightforward lyrics are by design because the focus is the message. Obviously about self harm, I don’t think they wanted that lost in overly poetic writing and crazy instrumentation. One of my favorites off of what has become one of my all time favorite albums.

I dont know how deep into the production of this album you have looked into, but Vessel I did guitar, base, piano, and synthesizer while being credited as the writer and co producer with Carl Bown. The only other constant member is the drummer Vessel II. On tour they have three back up singers with a guitarist and bassist. Also a fun fact, if you listen to the first song on their first album "The Night Does Not Belong to God" the rhythm at the beginning of it matches the ending rhythm of the last song of the third album "Euclid" coming full circle on the Trilogy of Sleep.
