My reaction to "Ascensionism" (which may just be my new favourite Sleep Token song!) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SOCIAL: IG: taylors.odyssey Twitch: twitch.tv/taylorsodyssey
This is the song that I cant stop listening to. It's been in my head for a week. I know I have to look like a crazy person singing along to this album in my car for the last week. I was never a Sleep Token fan but this album has got its hooks in me.
You are the Light that shines in the darkness... You are always Free to Sing, my Love... Always. (Not just when you're in your car... although I bet that's absolutely adorable to behold...) I sing at work often, whatever song I'm feeling at the time, and sometimes, people look at me funny, as if I'm crazy or something, and you know what...? I do not care. That is what Freedom looks like. I am the Universe itself, and so can you. I am the Light that shines in the darkness, and sometimes this Light likes to sing. The rest of the world is just going to have to deal with that as best it can. I am the Truth, and I cannot be defeated by the opinions of human beings.
I know this is a slightly incorrect use of the quote but imma use it this way anyways Taylor: "You just never know how one of their songs is gonna start out. Is it heavy? Is it really soft? Is it kinda groovy?" Ascensionism: "Yes!"
Tell me you met me in a past life, past lie, past what might be eatingmefromthe inside darlinnnnn So good I imagine them playing this live and everyone screaming "YOU MAKE ME WISH I COULD DISAPPEARRRRRRR" with their hands up. Cant wait
What I love about the heavy drop in this one is that, although heavy, it suddenly shifts to a major chord. We all kinda expected it to get heavy, but not like that.
THIS, the way the song feels as if it's on the verge of being dark but always turns to a major chord. So much power in that alone, my favorite track from the album, albeit every track is a masterpiece.
I really like when these songs make you unexpectedly smile - not trying to be weird - it’s just genuine and captures what many people feel while listening to a band like this. The nonverbal communication does as much in the reaction. Anyways thanks good job!
Loved the reaction Taylor. Sleep Token's music is special and therapeutic for alot of people, Vessel's voice is unreal and his songwriting is poetic. This album is a life changing experience from start to finish. Worship.
I actually just went through a break up of a year relationship and this song perfectly describes how I felt at the end of the relationship. I ended up relapsing on alcohol and causing a lot of damage to my ex, but over our relationship I was constantly made to feel like I had to prove myself. This song just describes when two people just aren’t good for each other. The lyric “you won’t get to watch me ascend” in the screaming section is how I feel after I’ve been set free of this burden in my life. So thank you sleep token❤
All of Sleep Token's albums are *about* being in (Sundowning), ending (This Place Will Become Your Tomb), and mourning/dealing with the aftermath of/healing from (Take Me Back to Eden) a relationship with a manipulative, abusive ex. So, you know, that checks out.
I've been so enamored with the new album. One of the smoothest albums I've ever listened to, and between "Tomb" and "Eden," I'm starting to learn that Sleep Token's music seems to make more sense when listened to in that way- in a full album context. Not sure why that is though; maybe it's a narrative way that they write lyrically? Anyway, this song being a sort of halfway point makes it that much more of a highlight. The elegance, and the PRECISION, of the piano parts through this track, is sheer perfection. Kind of like the rest of this album.
Loved it!! Hahaha I smiled the entire video… it would be a blast to listen this album with you!! What a ride it is right? It’s a piece of art… emotional roller coaster! Cheers from Chile.
Very well done reaction! I found your channel from this vid and watched your "is this it?" video. Nothing wrong with not being a music expert! It's really great to be able to see everyone's perspective.
Duddess!!! I have been waiting on bated breath for this one. It's one thing to watch a mind get blown, but your energy you put out there is everything!!! This album is immaculate!!
@@TaylorsOdyssey You are going to love it!!! Just give yourself a hug before a few of them. If you need a pallet cleanser, Nic Nocturnal just did a How to Sleep Token, if your heart hurts. 🟥❤🟥
Definitely the album of the year for me in 2023! I havnt had a band hit me the same way that ST does in the past 10yrs I'd say. I was lucky to see them live 2 days in a row in September Friday in Detroit and Saturday in Chicago. Check out all their old stuff it's great too.
A lyric in this song references Vessel's old music project, which I love dearly. I will not spoil it but I hope others also are able to discover it and enjoy its brief beauty without spoiling it for everybody as well This song is a 10/10 The album is a 10/10, and I think they may have topped Sundowning
I was just waiting for that reaction at around 2:40. I do love this song so much. So dynamic and amazing. It's so fun to share the love of this kind of music...I just found your channel from your reaction to Aviations' Outliers. Have you done any reactions to Shrezzers?
The layering of Vessel's voice is amazing. The second half of the song when he's talking about his ascension and being free, he actually has a layer when he says "free" that's a whimper when it's supposed to his time to take control. Almost like he still isn't ready. It's.Just.Awesome.
The intro is immensley clever. Someone please tell me they also noticed the use of the piano accompaniment and story telling on each verb in the intro. Listen to how the first verbs are used and then the following ones to highlight the emotional state of the verb. 'Reflection' high pitch progression to indicate change for the better. 'Deception' a sudden drop to a bitter reality. 'Free' A single stoke, free of the burdens from before. This is repeated in the next line but the emphasis on 'take' shapes the next two. DOES THAT MAKE SENSE OR AM I JUST AUTISTIC?!
For a second I was like Taylor Marie why does that name & your face seem familiar & then it hit me, I remember watching your Toe/Datura video, it's great to see you jump on the Sleep Token Wagon
i dont know if you have or not but i would advise listening to the other 2 albums before getting to the end of TMBTE for the proper experience of the album due to the many references in the lyrics
Ok, I have a theory on this one: "Diamonds in the Trees" = Dimethyltryptamine (DMT) "Pentagrams in the Night Sky" = 5-HT1A and 5-HT2 receptors "You make me wish I could disappear" = psychedelic drug induced "ego death". Along with many other references throughout the song that could be psychedelic related (even the title). So in this song he recalls the time he did DMT with the girl that all their songs are about (the one that dumped him...ultimately that's what all 3 album are about) and it messed her up (even worse than she already was, and she was already a mess) so that's why in the next song she exhibits self harming behavior.
I see a lot of criticism from metal heads complaining they are overrated. It is such a meaningless phrase. No one cares if about belief too many people love this band; what do these people actually think about the music! There is absolutely no doubt this band are good songwriters.
I hope I did this right is there a contest? I would love to meet Taylor Swift. I’m only a master plumber. But I promise you one thing I’ve been through life are used to climb powerline holes. I would do anything to give her a hug if I’m really lucky I get to dance with her to, I had dance lessons in Cheyenne, Wyoming years ago, but anyways, no one knows my true story it’s a long one. James Dean
A big hug for you my friend Taylor!!!....No one better than you, to make a reaction video and analyze this incredible singer who is leaving all the experts, literally with their jaws on the floor (Do you remember Jim Carrey's movie "The Mask"? well, just like that)...In 2017, a 22-year-old singer from Kazakhstan, named Dimash Kudaibergen, was invited to participate in the famous Chinese program for professional singers called "The Singer"... In his first appearance, Dimash covered one of the most difficult songs in the world, a famous French composition called "S.O.S. D'un Terrien En Détresse"...Since then all this madness began on the internet, RU-vid and social networks worldwide and he is already considered the best singer on the entire planet... It is almost impossible to see a human being, being able to reach vocal ranges of 8 octaves, that is, the 88 keys of a digital piano, which allows him to reach all registers, both masculine and feminine, that is, he can sing as Bass, Baritone, Tenor, Contratenor, Contralto, Mezzosoprano and Soprano...You can see in RU-vid to all kinds of experts (Vocal coaches, analysts, singing teachers, singers, youtubers, reactors, etc.), who have dedicated themselves to watching his videos and verifying for themselves that what is said about him is completely true...In addition to all this, Dimash is capable of singing in more than 12 languages...In all his concerts worldwide, tickets are sold in just seconds, via the internet, due to the immense popularity he has worldwide... Anyway, I think you haven't met this impressive singer yet, so here is the link to the first song that Dimash performed in China in that year 2017, the song S.O.S., and if it doesn't bother you, I would like you to mention me as the person who recommended it to you...Warning: You have to be prepared for thousands of views, comments and new subscribers...The video It is more recent, so it does not have the millions of views that the first ones, but it is more complete, including an intro, subtitles in several languages and better audio and sound quality...ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-bDX3FhmyNac.html
Nice reaction, always glad to see you back with another one ^^ That "trap" part totally got me out of the song... Trap beats (like reggaeton beat and all its derivatives) is a big nono in my book, I just can't. I think once again I'll have to limit to only a couple of songs from a Sleep Token album: I'm sad.
It had a very "London" feel about it, if you have been there you will know what I mean, it's hard to describe. I suppose that's to be expected, though I though Dark Signs was as close to the grime stuff as I thought they would go...nope, and it continues!
