"My, my, those eyes like fire I'm a winged insect, you're a funeral pyre" has to be the greatest description of going back to a toxic relationship that will eventually kill you . Like Moth to a flame for the attraction and Funeral Pyre to describe his end if he goes back.

Sleep Token is like an onion: many layers and once you get into it, your eyes are going to leak.

The beginning " drifting through the fog" = the album Sundowning, perfect oceans The album" This place will become your tomb" ocean theme. The whole beginning is a call back and how he's still attracted and called to the other in the song. There are call backs through this album and song. So many. Go listen to chokehold now

You're the first reactor our of god knows how many to talk about how the chorus is evolving as the song goes on, which is one of my favorite things about the song.

The way I interpreted this song is this someone who wants things to go back to the way things were. Something is different, things have changed for him and he wants to go back to a simpler time, or perhaps his eden represents a state of mind or a relationship with someone who represents "The Godmother". This whole song is an escelation of force. At first hes grasping at the concept that things arnt the same and it seems ethereal, not real. Then as the R&B part fills in its more grounded as a person whos going through the walls of life and trying to cope, but hes angry because he cant. The softer part after the second chorus is him seemingly bargaining almost. Trying to reason with his feelings, and when he cant it escelates to the breakdown, which is feel is an appropriate portion as a 'breakdown' of his walls and composure. Its feral and hes done reasoning and bargaining. Hes willing to do ANYTHING to go back to the way things were.

Sleep Token's drummer is something else If you watch a video of him playing the drums it looks like a he’s conducting an orchestra I love it how they mix metal and rap

The song Gods has lyrics "No more teeth to bite with" Here, there's "Grow back your sharpest teeth, you know my desire" After the anger and sorrow pass, he still wants her. Even tho she hurt him.

To me this song is parallel with the story in Genesis. No one told him how to breathe. In the fog. He didn’t have knowledge of his surroundings. Then they bite the fruit and is kicked out of his paradise. All he knew. Then the rapping part is he is now realizing everything at once. The screaming at the end is him pleading to a metaphoric god to take him back to that paradise or woman or loved one that passed on.

Between Vessel's vocals and writing and II's drumming, there is a plethora of genres and musical influences. II's style is very much infleunced by metal but he incorporates gospel, RnB, and pop to his drumming. I don't care about what other people say, this is my album of the year.

The lines “it was no accident” and “we were tangled up like branches in a flood” are direct callbacks to the first track on this album, “Chokehold” and lyrical callbacks are very common from their first album until the very last song on this recent one. If you do a full dive, you absolutely need to listen to “The night does not belong to god” off their first album BEFORE you listen to ”Euclid” in this album in order to be able to fully appreciate it in it’s entirety

The ending , he was so angry he couldn’t hold it in anymore and ‘bit back in anger’. I’m looking through all your videos with sleep token but if you haven’t been told , a lot of these lyrics tie into past songs and even past albums. It’s crazy the attention to detail and even why certain times he yells. Love it !

This song cuts through my soul like a filet knife and makes me cry. The ending has some of the lyrics to Chokehold in there as well. So happy to see these guys finally blowing up.

Vessel's voice is really haunting all on its own with no production. He's one of the most talented musicians/singer/song writer I've ever heard. All his lyrics are poetic and tragic but hit so hard in the feels. This entire album has callbacks to their earlier songs and albums. This album was the third in a trilogy that told the story of Vessel and his toxic relationship. They are very theatrical and it's so damn good!! This man has a way with lyrics and then his music is off the chain. Absolutely enthralled by this man's voice also.....you can never go wrong with Sleep Token. His lyrics are second to none! Already commented, but (this is my view on it) is "Take me back to Eden" is him saying he wishes he could go back to the honeymoon phase of a relationship. Wanting to go back to when everything was fresh, new and happy. Before it all went to shit

This was the first Sleep Token song I heard and it had me by the throat IMMEDIATELY. I hear new things each time I listen to it - for example, "take me back to Eden" and "bring back the glory of innocence" feels like a callback to a time before something ruinous happened, longing for the person you were before a calamity struck, before you knew what you could become. It's such a beautiful, haunting song. Combined with the self destructive longing "those eyes like fire, I'm a winged insect, you're a funeral pyre" - a moth to a flame, knowing it will burn. Bro, I enjoyed the reaction. I believe lyrically it is about the death of a living soul through drowning. The soul takes a step back to describe its disappointments in life and comes to the point of not wanting death as he is now ready to fight back in anger only to realize death has a hold of him and there is nothing he can do about it. The heavy end is his final violent outcry as he now only wants to go back to the place of pure love ,peace, beauty and life which is the beloved " eden" before " the fall" .

My two cents. Throughout Sleep Token’s discography, we hear Vessel describe a tumultuous relationship with Sleep. Sleep is almost a parasitic deity who lured Vessel in and then used him. In my opinion, Take Me Back to Eden is Vessel crying out wishing that he could go back to life before Sleep, now that he knows how toxic their relationship is.

I think of it like this. Throughout their discography, especially on their EPs "One" and "Two", there was this sort of theme with the song order. Three songs on each EP, and the order goes like this: First song is about going TO Sleep, second song is about what Vessel does when he's connected to Sleep, and the third song is Vessel sort of waking up and being away from Sleep. If you put that order into this trilogy, you get: Sundowning --> Falling asleep, starting the relationship with Sleep, going to Sleep This Place Will Become Your Tomb --> The chaotic, tumultuous, tempestuous relationship with Sleep Take Me Back To Eden --> Vessel waking up from Sleep and finally realizing that the whole relationship was just BAD. With this in mind, it's PAINFULLY obvious that "Take me back to Eden" is Vessel's crying out moment to go back to how life was BEFORE Sleep. Before all this hell he's been in. Even the gods of this world are growing tired of it. He's been nothing but a waking, living hell. He's been nothing but evil and dark and dangerous when he's connected to Sleep. So "Take me back to Eden" is his sort of cry out to be taken back to that time.

They remind me musically of like, def tones, with some of the best singing in music today. He goes to show you that you don’t have to just belt high notes. There is beauty in the low end as well. Personally I am here for it. We neglect the lower end and leave it to the dad rock bands, but like dude this is beautiful and haunting. It sticks in your heads for days after listening. “I guess it goes to show, does it not? That we've no idea what we've got until we lose it And no amount of love will keep it around If we don't choose it” This line is incredible and so true. You can love someone more than anything in the world, if they don’t choose you back, then it still goes nowhere.

Great reaction and deep dive into the lyrics. You'll enjoy, I feel, reacting to more Sleep Token songs cause they are all like this. Very deep, encryptic, with some even calling back lyrically to songs on other albums. It's amazing how much thought and detail Vessel (their lead singer/songwriter) puts into these songs.

Tool comparison is fair, both are progressive metal bands at their core.

To me all of sleep tokens albums have some connection to TMBTE. Sundowning(the first album) is the beginning of a love, hence songs like sugar. This Place Will Become Your Tomb (second album) I think something goes wrong in that relationship and he has a longing for the love he had, hence songs like Alkaline, where he is praising her. In TMBTE he finally realizes that what they had was not good for him hence the album as a whole. Sleep token IS a journey through what it feels like to lose someone, and I’m here for all of it

They have a surprisingly large amount of Gospel music influence (revealed by their drummer in a recent interview), so that non-R&B part that felt R&B might have been a little Gospel flair you picked up on.

This song is literally like the final boss fight.

My two cents on the rap version of this song: (WARNING: Sleep Token lore gets graphic) I wonder if Vessel (the lead singer) is talking about how bad his life is when he wakes up which is why he wants to continue to stay sleep and be with his deity, Sleep. Because in Sleep Token lore, the only way he can connect with Sleep is by literally going to sleep. Check it out "Well, yeah, I spit blood when I wake up Sink porcelain stained, choking up brain matter and make-up Just two days since the mainframe went down and I'm still messed up" I'm wondering if he killed someone two days ago and he's been sleep for those two days? "The mainframe" going down could be a metaphor for him snapping. Is that why the sink is stained and he's "choking up brain matter and make up"? It could be the fact that he literally ate this person because in earlier Sleep Token songs, it's hinted that Vessel has Vorarephilia (An erotic desire to be consumed by , or to personally consume another person or creature) He "spits blood" when he wakes up because he hates the fact that he woke up because he doesn't want to and he also doesn't want to face the reality of what he did or how screwed up his life is. He's angry. "Room feels like a meat freezer, I dangle in like cold cuts Missed calls, answer phones from people I just don't trust" Is the room cold because the person he killed is in there dead and he doesn't want the body to smell? It can be both that AND the fact that we as humans sleep better when it's cold and he wants to stay sleep for as long as he can so he can be with his deity. If it feels like a meat freezer in there, it's REALLY cold. You can tell he's been sleep the entire two days too because there's missed calls from people he doesn't trust. Those missed calls could be from people asking where he's been or asking where his partner has been because they haven't been seen or heard from in two days. If you've just committed a murder, you're not going to trust anyone that calls you. "Mirror talk, fake love, but I'll take a pound of your flesh (This part makes me think even more that he consumed parts of the person after killing them) Before you take a piece of my pay stub White roses, black doves, Godmother, rise up I need you to see me for what I have become" Whomever this person that he killed, they were having problems. Financial problems maybe? Maybe the argument was over money and Vessel snapped and killed them? Maybe he was trying to calm himself down in the mirror, talk himself out of it? It was a "fake love" because this person only wanted him for his money? I'm still trying to find meaning in the "White roses, black doves" part But yes, this is part of the reason why I think he wants to stay sleep. His life literally is hell when he's awake and even though Sleep treats him like shit, it's still better than the life he has while awake, which is why his Eden is with Sleep, even though they're abusive towards him
