There are many people of ALL backgrounds that are homeless just like there are people of all different backgrounds that are living normal lives in society. I've been there, 20 years ago now, councils and the average person does not care one bit, but now I have a job, a 2 bedroom terrace(not a palace but a palace to me), and a missus, oh and 4 cats(spoilt)
I walked past King's Cross train station a few months ago and I was shocked by how many people were laid on the pavement completely wrapped up in dirty quilts in the sun, they were not begging or even showed their faces or any signs of life. Unbelievable.
I was homeless six years. I ended up going into the country side. Woodlands etc. It's safer. I began to only go into the towns and cities if completely necessary.
The majority of the times it's the chavs growing up and being allowed to go to the local town to cause chaos while mamma bear is at home getting impregnated with a new one from one of the council estate chavs.... And the cycle continues.

Most people think Sleeping Rough is cause you don't have money or you're an addict. Nope. Many chose this as an option to escape brutality, abuse and daily misery at home. When you find homeless folk....don't judge....help out a bit and move on. Giving someone a meal, a blanket, a jacket or a few hygiene basics is not dependant on the homelessness factor. You do it cause we are all human trying to live out this life.

I try to give to the homeless If I can afford it. I remember giving money to this homeless girl sitting in the same spot in Croydon ove the years as I saw her transform from a healthy young female into a mature drug addict which really pained me. So I started to give them food instead. Now I even know that my local homeless guy loves crossbuns and diet coke lol. But on a serious note, we are all not far from being homeless in the future so be good to these people and may be they will remember and be good to someone else in the same position in the future, which is great for society.

Hopefully the weather should get better soon and maybe something will turn up for you. I thought that the homeless were in hotels because of the virus ? People have been living rough in London for hundreds of years. It's nothing new and it will always be around. Today's homeless have it easier than yesterday's. Welfare payments, free healthcare, soup kitchens, hostels, social workers and numerous opportunities to rise out of their bleak circumstances.
Absolute rubbish!! I have been homeless in London for almost 30 years. What welfare payments? With the introduction of universal credit it is almost impossible for a homeless person to claim benefits and despite the stereotype it is a very small minority of homeless that beg. It is a very tough existence with no real support to speak of.
+erzsebet naftalin I'm asking because at least one of these guys is living in a supported accommodation, in a hostel for many years now, he is definitely not street homeless (can I guess, did you shoot this movie around Holloway?) A lot of people on the street got places to live with social workers, carers looking after them 24/7 but they still go out to beg to get money for alcohol/crack/etc. It's kinda boring that we don't talk about the REALITY. Massive amount of people are on the street, begging, drinking, sleeping who got accommodation but go out to get money. Let me tell you it is quite easy to get £100 a day via begging. This is one side of the story. The other one are the people you don't see on the street although they are homeless but sofa surfers. They sleep here and there with friends, family or by random people but they have nowhere to go, nothing to call home. I couldn't find any documentary about this population which is quite disappointing. So if you really want to do something significant please learn about homelessness first. And a really important point. If you see someone on the street in London for example call StreetLink or just download the app to your phone so you can let outreach services know if you see a vulnerable person. Many times giving them money is not helpful, no matter what they say, the majority is spending it on drugs. Because they earn money on the street many times they don't use the accommodations so they will lose it. In this case, for 6 months they cannot apply for another accommodation or any kind of benefits...that means they will really end up on the street, they are going to be really homeless , means they have definitely nowhere else to go. I understand what you wanted to show with this short film but you are on the wrong path... again and again the same thing with these documentaries: crying people on the street, this is all I see. Homelessness is much more than this. Please visit some hostels and community services and have a chat with the staff about working with this population, or the best thing is to spend a week or two with a whole team.Then you might be able to understand that these kind of films as yours are totally pointless and not helpful at all. To say that they almost all have accommodation is just rubbish.Regardless whether they are on drugs/booze,a simple act of kindness can change their entire life.
At least you didnt get into drugs or rostitution. But honestly, having a dog on the street? Did you get them before or after you went on the street, cause that is important matter? You can believe me or not, but i have seen loads nice looking young girls turning into trash in less than one month. I guess thy never expected to be homeless and this are the ones thagt keep shouting ''Get a job you lazy piece of shit!'' And then the punch of reality is going to knock you out. I was 13 years homeless in my life, and i am 26, and i went on the street cause mental problems and alcohol, and it didnt shock me at all, cause for me its like walk in the park. I know no one is being responsible for that. If i made wrong decision, fuck me, other people arent babysiters to me. The is lots of ways to get off the streets, without begging. People still cannot understand.

Some people look down on the homeless these people have families and think they are better . These people are sad if only they knew IT could be them if their family was taken from them in a car crash or some thing .Why do they think they are better by just looking at someone ?

Here in Leicester you do see foreigners on the street. They are a small percentage of the population that's the reason. Foreigners as you put it don't create homeless as guess who runs Britian.......tories
Im a Lady who was on a relationship with a domineering man who made me wear a degrading dress to the pub. We got home then he belittled me further so I lost it completely & attacked him with a bottle and he nearly died. I served a sentence for attempted murder. Now Im homeless.

Some off us need and would love a hot meal, bath and a bed but what you get could be a lot different but people need guidance and help, after 3 months of freezing cold nights no toilet and people either judging you or kicking you while your down, literally.... you might want a can too sleep better ( whatever they are people too in need off help not criticising) I know people personally who have done it with neither as well... #hatethesystemnottheplayer
Well all I can say I seen a homeless person in our town I asked him if he had a drug problem he said not a hard drug problem so I said I've a spare room you can take he said it's ok I've got the council coming to see me soon I said I'll be back to see if they've come they didn't so I said come on then his friend was worried about him coming over to mines so I said why don't you come to we can be one happy family she can't thank me enough and he's over the moon gives me a right lift to do that I mean the room was doing nothing meant a lot to them they just stay there the night BUT they've got a address if you don't have one you can't do nothing so if you have a spare room DO THE SAME AND GIVE SOMEONE A LIFE

What it boils down to is that people, by nature, are selfish. We all think we have it rough. But the truth is, people who live paycheck to paycheck, (the majority of us), are a few weeks away from being homeless and probably hopeless and once you're at that point, It's an icy road to re-establishing any kind of "life". That's not what necessarily drove them to be homeless... Homelessness is NOT a mental illness on these peoples part, it's an indication of the ignorance and lack of empathy of society as it is these days. Society/politics/archaic laws are the REAL mental illnesses. We are a product and in most cases, you're lucky to not be the end result.
Uk government give millons of pounds to local authorities to support and help the homeless. So its the local councils to blame plus some of the homeless get help some dont want help to get off the street
Break into shops every night if you get away with it you get the money or the items from the shop if you get caught you end up in a cell or jail with food and a bed , win win IMO

Plus even if there wasn't heroin, they'd still get their methadone. Tell them you're an alcoholic as well and you'd probably get some valium for the first week.
This is nothing compared to the thousands of homeless people in the cities all over India; living in abject poverty and unhygeinic conditions. Homeless people in London are far better off than their Indian counterparts. At least in London there is a few hundred homeless people and their needs are somehow taken care of by charitable societies in. No one to shed tears and offer help for the Indian homeless. What a tragedy.
government owned buildings empty on every street. all that should be done is provide portable johns and waste removal . but the people need to respect the help and do the right thing. i am not saying drug free or any other rules other than the ones we all should live by no matter your color, sex, or religion
Donating to these people is handing money to their dealers. These people if they get properties cause havoc for their decent neighbours, they should be put on an island in tents and made to grow their own food instead of messing up the streets
I would like to give them some money but where i live the police an authorities have told people not to give money cos they use it for drugs an its making the situation worse, an there are a lot of people pretending to be homeless an making a living out of it. So wehave been told to buy them foid or clothing, but as i am a single parent myself i cant afford to buy them food but i would have given them the odd pound from time to time.

The majority are on benefits get free meals clothes and some get shelter ,hostels etc but they are never going to do better sitting in doorways wasting each day . They cant get in the hostels drugged up or drunk thats why most are out each night

This people if give them work simple place to stay and stop from their bad habit Im sure their life much better. Bad habit can spoil our brain and environmental. revivedfears it is a medication prescribed by my Dr to keep me clean. I consider myself clean even though I take methadone. I don't get high whatsoever off of it.
