It still gets me how big this game was back in the day when you realize how minimalistic it really was. Put the player in a big map, getting chased by a threat that can be anywhere without you knowing it, limited vision, and of course perfect ambience for suspense. Amnesia and this game really set the course for the indie horror game genre
The authors with Slender The Arrival really missed that point, point they made themselves in the previous chapter, in my opinion. In its minimalistic approach, Slender is scary because you know slender could be in front of you after every turn. You know he's probably already watching you, he's waiting for you. You might get audio clues or not, you might see him or not. What you know it's that the moment you see him you have to run. That's why it makes you so terrified to make every move and why it leaves you on edge the whole time. Slender TA is much more like your typical jumpscare horror game. You can stand in front of him for 30 seconds straights with the camera glitching. Eventually he'll disappear. He can spawn in front of you any moment. Yeah it's (jumpscare) scary, but you loose that feeling of constantly being watched. You get used to the jumpscare because you know when he's not in front of you he's just not in the map at all, probably. You know once he spawns he despawns just as easily. You know you can walk right past him, or run TOWARDS him and you'll have a good chance he'lp despawn before you reach him. He bocomes nothing more than a spooky jumpscare. In Slender the 8 pages... he truly is always one step ahead of you.
I did this by accident once. Got like the 5th page and I knew he had spawned behind me, so I walked backwards hoping to game the system. Just instakilled me once I ran into him.
Every single time since I played this in 2012, I lose no matter what I do after 6 pages. I MUST be doing something wrong. Like a few seconds after getting the 6th page, he teleports RIGHT behind me and gets me as if I just collected the 8th page. Ive been trying to beat this for years...
From what I've heard, Slenderman gets faster the more you collect pages. To 'slow' him down, you need turn around and look at him for few secs before you turn around again and continue your mission.
@@zavinci2372 Listen at the breath of the character you're controlling, you can realise it's a female and so it is in Slender the arrival Genesis. In both games you are controlling Kate.
@@emirparatore3837 But Slender's using a red tie in his suit in Genesis, he also uses the same red tie in Arrival, here it's using the Black tie, it makes no sense that Slender changed ties between.
I may get stuff wrong, but here we go. Slenderman cannot teleport anywhere in front of you. You may see people look behind themselves and block Slenderman out with a tree, and this prevents him from moving pretty much. If you're not looking at him, he slowly gets closer and closer to you until he gets close enough to grab you and you instantly die. Looking at him is the only way to prevent him from getting closer, but you also are at risk of looking for too long and dying anyway.
texticks I never understood how that worked, because I’ll save my sprint for the very end and right as I get 6 pages, it’ll be no less than 10 seconds before he turns me around and instakills me..
