That just made me instantly happy, just by watching you and following you along, having all that good fun. It‘s not only your unique way to make music but bringing it all across here in your videos. It is just so much fun watching you, messing around with stuff and bringing it all to life. That is just so inspiring with all the good vibes - and all the knowledge and fun. Thank you so much!
A basic function of the Live II but very well executed and with a lot of enthusiasm. Definitely inspiring and got my creative gears turning. The newest gen of MPCs really are incredible.
Duuude, your finger drumming is so on point!! Inspirational stuff! I have a Maschine Mk3, but I've still been able to transpose a lot of what I've learned from your vids! Keep it up, my friend!
Great video AGAIN. Love watching this on a big screen and bringing this unique atmosphere into my studio. I bought a Live II thanks to you! Really inspiring stuff.
Lol, the program is called “Lookinch” because you took the sample “Lookin” and then made a program using non destructive chops, hence adding the “ch” at the end. It’s a really annoying thing the Live, X etc have done since release and I always delete the ch’s every single time I make a program
Yesss man! I cant wait to save up for a sampler for myself. It all seems so straightforward and a whole lot of fun (or at least you make it seem like that :D) Keep at it!!!
I’m gonna be honest here I don’t really even make house music I think I may have made one or two house tracks my whole life however that being said Ricky I have learned so much as a musician from your videos it’s insane. Just your whole approach and your ideas are really cool and inspiring. Honestly after hearing a lot of what you make I’m kind of thinking about stepping into maybe making some house tunes. Thanks bro appreciate you also real quick just wanted to ask what was that video that you did were you showed how to separate stereo samples into mono tracks.
I saw that chopping by 1/8 beat on some oldschool Pete Rock video with MPC 2000xl and from then it's like my default chopping theme for samples with beat. Really nice and easy explanation the benefits of this technique. Big up Ricky :)
Oh BTW .. after u gunned down “Illa jays” Mpc live ... “ u now have to admit HOW MUCH U LOVE THE MPC LIVE2 .. your a different guy on it and so clearly ENJOYING THE WORK FLOW” . Lol peace bro from an arm chair fan
Can I sample that "moustache hair" bit, "What's nuts is...", "... really massage it, into something dope", and "It takes a second"? I'll give you credit.
Just got Akai MPC Live II and trying to figure it out, feeling overwhelmed. In this video you made me laugh, cry tears of joy, so many EUREKA moments…. Let’s just say I am now a Loyal subscriber. Amazing Edit: Most important, you brought me back down to earth and reminded me it’s for FUN
@Ricky Tinez Do you know if there is a way to sequence a drum track on the MPC live2 using an external sequencer via midi? I was able to do it with my cirklon but it was confusing since the pattern wouldn't show up in the MPCs sequence. The circklon would trigger its own pattern and it seemed to be playing the raw samples without the cuts/ effects. Im still quite new to the MPC. Im guessing i did not set the correct midi parameters. Thank you for the help.
Hi there. Question… I own an mpc live 2 and I’m looking for something kinda like an sp404 to with it because I want to record sounds into my mpc. But hoping to find something that can do a little bit more. Like generate signal on its own. Do you know of something that can do a bit of both - a hybrid between synth and sp404? Can you recommend pieces of gear that are good companions to the mpc live 2?
Im surprised you dont use the Force, its riiiight down your alley, just an alternative MPC workflow angled at Ableton users like yourself. Id like to see your eyes light up jammin out a beat on the Force...
I was doing the nasty producer face of approval the whole time. The MPC Live II is such a clunky and amazing piece of gear. I love it so much and am also glad to see it confuse people time to time like it does to me.
Ricky Ricky Ricky, this video by far is one of my favorite! I've trying to figure out how to do this type of chopping and make it work! Keep hittin' us with these sampling and beat making tips. Still waiting on a vinyl sampling video! Thank you for the knowledge...and therefore, the power. Peace and love.
did the "eventually it needs a ride" video get taken down? clicked the link and it didn't head to the vid. Tried searching for it and couldn't find anything either
One question though... how do the 32 chops populate the 16 pads? Do the first 16 load up, and the second 16 save to a different "page"? So you have the front half of the sample and the back half?
Love my MPC live 2, the more you play with it the faster you can push out really layered and powerful songs Takes a month but after that it’s smooth sailing and then some
I've screenshotted your comment to look at daily until I learn the thing. Got the Live II today (coming off using Maschine and Reason) and.... I'm panicking lol The whole interface seems so alien right now. Been sampling since the early 90's but never had an MPC. I needed the reassurance and for some reason your short comment eased my mind lol. For some reason I think I expected to jump straight in and make beats day one 😂
@@DuckAlertBeats keep at it, take an hour to try and get some more basics covered on the device itself. Soon your brain will understand how to properly work with this amazing device. Don't beat yourself up, you have the experience now you just need the time.
@@combobreaker449 Thanks bro :) I'lll take your advice and try not to stress too much along the way. Lucky we have RU-vid these days so I know I'm not alone. I lost a little confidence this evening that's all 😬 Quick question - do you tend to use non destructive slices or pad parameters (i think that's the definitions)....I generally want my chops to be unique..bit confused lol
Setting chop to manual so you can hit a pad as it plays and insert the chop is without a doubt the best way to take control of your chops. Its also fun to do. BTW when you create that new program with chops it inserts CH at the end of it, if theres more than one itl insert a number designation aswell.
This is also what I do, because I felt like it'd be the best way of keeping the vibe, but when you think about it probably makes just as much sense to chop evenly like this and then when you sequence quantised it should retain some of those timing nuances in the original performance, rather than having to do a bunch of nudging. So I'm definitely going to give this a go - I think there's room for both approaches and a lot will depend on the sample, even though I have the same preference you do I'm not sure one is always better than the other, just different.
Aye master. This and tubeDigger for your’l mpc live chop drop yearnings. Forever learning. Thinking what tracklib inside the live like splice might be like,🫀humm.
Do you have any Novation Circuit Rhythm videos in works? I'd love to see you do this kinda thing on various devices with the same samples and see what you end up with :)
Great video. One question though, as I can't seem to find it on my MPC One : how do you change the track order? Can be easily done on every MPC I've owned (60, 1000, 2000, 2500), but can't find it on the MPC One.
