Paul Wolgemuth writes-
"Kelly- In your last Q&A Video, you touched on only adding weight to a fly only when you have a purpose for that weight. Could you talk about other aspects of streamer design? For instance, why and when to add articulation, when to use wool heads over spun hair heads, hook selection, etc.. I was glad to find your youtube channel, as I like getting my information without the middleman. Keep up the good work."

First of all thank you for amazing videos. I have a question about streamers on smaller streams. What are your preferred streamers and sizes for smaller streams? What retrieve do you use? Swing? Quick retrieves? Figure 8? Jigging? Thank you. Btw videos on vises and reels were my favorite. Cutting through a lot of bull there...

I'm glad that in this video, the point was made about the lighter wire gauge hooks, the Partridge universal predator, or Aberdeen bend style of hook is useful, because it doesn't impede the movement actions that he wants to get from the streamer, or sculpin pattern. I was trying to understand what was the attraction of the Aberdeen bend hooks for streamers. As I mentioned, we do use this type of hook in smaller sizes, on the larger lakes for fishing from drifting boats on large rolling waves, on the surface. That is, the heavier wire gauge hook was avoided for a reason in that instance also.

Thanks Kelly this is all very informative to someone starting to tie and fish real streamers. "An eight is not a streamer by the way... it's a wet fly." Got it! :-)

Hello Kelly , My Question : Will you / or Do you ever come to The Cincinnati Tavel and Boat Show & RV Convention and do your presentations ? I hope to see you in our area sometime. P/S I'm still learning about fly fishing at 53 years old ..., and I love to watch your Demonstrations & Videos . Hope to catch some fish this Spring. Thank you

I observed that even in the little size eighteen hares ear even, that the dry fly hook wire gauge, in preference to the nymph hook heavier wire gauge was preferred by Mr Galloup. That is, even down at size eighteen, the lighter wire hook on the dropper for the split shot technique was desirable, and tungsten, or brass beads, or leaded hooks were avoided in that approach too. There is consistency in the logic, even across different styles of fishing.

I ended up in the emergency room after trying to eat my own flies based on the advice from this video. Who should I send the bill to?

Hi I was wondering when and when not you use mallard feathers draped over the body. Also, could you give a list of materials for the fly at 1:55? Thanks again, great video

Enjoying the wisdom on the video until he said the Madison and my jaw dropped. We are practically neighbors! Where are you fishing with those big, articulated streamer patterns? I wanted to try my hand at some but was unsure of the usefulness of them here in Montana. Also, do you use a heavier weight rod/reel setup, or will my old 5wt do the trick?

Garrett, many of the flies were designed here on the Madison, but it really doesn't matter where you fish, trout are trout. New Zealand to New Hampshire they still like to big. As for the rod, about as light as i go is a 6 wt but lean a little more to the 7 world for a streamer specific stick. thanks for watching man, kelly

what kind of wire do you use to connect the back portion of the Fly to the front fly?

Mike- I use 19 strand .038 mm. Beadalon wire. You can get it at any michael's craft store and I think Walmart sells it as well

My wife tells me that my research costs $300 per month and that I need another hobby. Is fly fishin' more expensive than marriage?
