Slide Out Floor Replacement Part 1

Thank you so much for posting this video. I am about to embark on a job like this and I swore I was gonna have to remove the whole unit. Working in these times (C19 times) by myself I might not been able to actually complete the job. Watching this I can easily do this as my pop out is much smaller but the actual job is the same. Guys, just wanted to say THANK YOU for posting this. Thanks to you guys & this video, I was able to replace the slide floor on my 18 foot TT with just the help of my wife. It was much less involved than the repair you show here (much less trim) but the basic process was the same. As someone who's never done an RV repair before, I was still able to get this knocked out in under 8 hours and I'm pretty sure the repair is actually better that the original construction. Thanks again!

Very well done videp, vety informative. Recently zi purchased an 05 Dutchmen 33ft. Trailer. The floor in the 12ft slide was rotting on the ends. I now have remove the floor and have the new floor made up and ready to go in. It is much as the one in video. I could not believe the cheap construction of the slide concidering how well the main unit is built. I bought it for a project, to be completly remodel interior as I do repairs. Something to do while I recoup from BEATING stage three lung cancer. Still got aways to go but it is good therapy.

By far you guy have the best of the best info on fixing rotten walls and floors I just got a 2012 Salem villa 400 rets park model that needs slide out floor and may be wall replaced

Great job! Thank you for the detail...that is very important for noobs. I pulled the frig out today and hoping I can get away with a partial removal of a small area on the outside edge of slide-out. Oh my God, what a night mare ! I just wanted to rip the carpet out and replace it on the slide. My husband passed away 2 months ago and I'm doing the repairs myself. I just rebuilt his office, which was a bunk room for children when we purchased this 42 ft Luxury By Design RV. I really love this RV and don't want it to fall apart on me. I'm still working on the office, repairing the rotten wood in the walls. I'm getting there and it keeps my mind occupied. Next I plan to replace the entire roof on this monster of a RV. Lord help me.I will not ever remove an entire slide, I'm just to old to handle that job by myself. All I wanted to know is how to remove and replace the carpet on the long slide. I wish I could think of a way to get the stains out of it, but I don't think that's an option at this point. One day at a time. Thanks men for all the help

you guys are amazing alot of help ,and my hero i bought a project and did not know what i was getting into and i have these very same projects ahead of me for my main slide out it having some issues and not sure where to start

Hey Chris H I just replaced the floor on my keystone this weekend it's took one 9 hour day to take the floor out and cut new floor from 2 new sheets of 8x4 plywood once I got them in I glued them together with epoxy and so far so good if u got some buddy's to help it should go quicker it was just me and my wife so in total with taking out the dinette and couch and re caulking the entire slide out roof and walls and every screw lol don't want this thing to leak again lol it took 3 days! So the faster u get at your leak the better we had some really bad rot in the framing on the slide out wall that was a pain I had to take the wall apart! But wish you luck I say go for it this vid helped tons it went exactly like this vid said wireing and all! Take care:)

Great video and helps a bit. My slide out has to be moved in and out by physically lifting it and pushing it and pulling out therefore is the removal and replacement the same, storage compartment doors are approx 1/4 inch above bottom of sill so cant find any screws just at the sides and underneath

In 1 scentance you explained it all. I have to do a floor rebuild. And walls. And.. But now i know that my floor does sit as a lip. Ill put some skids.

I need to replace my rv floor but I need something to replace the cheap plastic bottom under the floor that faces the road. Where did you get the membrane for the underside of your floor? Great video!

Great upload thanks so much I've never done any rv repair before but I'm sure I can use this great idea! The wood that the floor screws into in the frame of the slide is rotten also I got my fingers x'ed I can get that wood out while the slide is in the rv! Well I'm in it knee deep now so I'm going to go for it lol! Thanks again ps keystone is junk mine is only 5 years old and both slides need new floor absolutely no quality at keystone they are no help and they sell 35,000,00$ junk this is my first and last keystone product!

Awesome video, thanks. I have some water damage on one end wall of slide out where the 2x2 rotted completely and the floor rotted where that meets on end. Not exact but this will help tons

Oh by the way Chris mine didn't even have the screws that were spota be hard to get they were staples so with it being rotten already I just pulled on it and it came out then I cut a 2x2 the same length as the one I pulled out and I made supports on top of the framing going up the wall I drilled good 2x2 on top of the bad and screwed it together where their was no rot and then screwed the bottom of the new 2x2 into it wasn't hard at all and nice and strong:)

where do you find the one piece flooring? ours is pressed. 13/4 thick. not something you find at the home depot. This video is VERY informative and helpful.

Why did you guys have to replace the floor in the first place? I have a 2.5 yr old 408tbs that the floor is falling out of and wonder if that's a common problem. What did you do to secure the floor where you cut off the two screws?

Will this process work for a Glacier Bay 5th wheel too? We've been living in it since hurricane Harvey hit 8/17. My bedroom slide out has completely separated from the outer wall after this last round of storms we had here in TX. I had someone that was going to do it for me, but he moved. I just want to make sure we can do this before we start tearing it apart.
