If you're talking about Genei Jin they really didn't. They probably had no idea about this since it took like 3 years after the release of Third Strike for US Yun players to find out about how good Genei Jin is. Considering that only top-level Japanese players knew about it and that SF3 was kind of neglected by Capcom because of its unpopularity I highly doubt they knew.
The testers probably couldn't find it, that’s the whole point of my comment. And this was 1997, hiring professional fighting game players who actually could find this stuff was basically unheard of (and I don't think Capcom started doing that until SFV). Plus they had this same system in multiple games, Alpha 2 custom combos and Alpha 3 3 V-ism are just as bad as Genei Jin so that’s 4 separate games where they didn't find this.
@@broogul7335 They’re actually worse. Custom combos give most characters a touch of death and V-ism has crouch cancel infinites. Crouch cancel infinites literally killed Alpha 3’s competitive scene. Also if you're not crouch blocking during the activation of a custom combo you are unable to block low so you just die (good old Valle CC). Also, Evil Ryu has a glitch that makes his custom combos unlockable, he's banned but if you're playing on fightcade or something anything goes.
