I was never a fan of Slim Dusty or his genre of music, but there is no denying that he was a pioneer and a legend in Australian music, paving the way for the Jimmy Barnes', the Paul Kellys and the John Farnhams of the future generations. I'd never seen this video before, and like you, it helped me to appreciate his lifelong body of work in music. Sadly Slim passed away some years ago now, but his legacy will live forever.
He was the KING of Australian country music and one of the nicest guys he travelled all around the country performing from big concerts in the big city to little show for less than a hundred in far outback indigenous communities. He was tireless in raising money to help good causes and charities. He sang songs about people and for people some of them will make you laugh others will make you cry. You may not be a country person but you would be worse off if you don't listen to some of his other stuff.
Slim was a true story teller, all Aussie at least know " The pub with no beer" and " love to have a beer with Duncan" , true gentleman ledgend of Aussie country music.
Put a tear in my eye mate. Thanks for posting this. My uncle played lead guitar for slim for almost 20 years. I’m sure they are playing tunes together now
Love slim dusty. But I’m Aussie as mate haha. So this stuff is in my veins and slim is the king. Glad it wasn’t too painful to watch and I’m glad someone who isn’t all that big on country can still appreciate his talent regardless. Have a good one mate!
OMG…. Cannot believe you did a reaction to our Slim! This is why I love your channel. You always surprise me with the songs you react to. Slim was and always will be a 😊legend, he was authentic and a wonderful story teller. He is very much missed.
Slim belongs to the 1940s 50s. Most of his songs are in story form ones you may enjoy red back on the toilet seat,( one of Australia’s moist poisoners spiders or the pub with no beer.
I can't handle too many Country songs either, but this seems to be sung a bit more as a Ballad or a bit more Folky, or something that makes it a bit more appealing.
I just can’t with Slim’s music. (Well, country in general I guess). I can certainly recognise his contribution to Australian music but the number of times i’ve chosen to listen to him will always and forever remain zero.
Slim Dusty was an Inspiration to All New Indigenous / Country Artist Men & Women from All Around Australia Slim Passed Away 19 September 2003 76 years old, Met Slim Dusty and He Was an awesome and humble human being ! 🗣 R.I.P Slim ✌& RESPECT 🤜🏼🤛🏾
Slim Dusty… was a True Australian country Legend….. Looking forward, Looking Back …. Was Written by Cold Chisel Keyboard Player.. The Great Don Walker….
Most of Slim's songs were written by his wife Joy McKean, check out, "when the rain tumbles down in July", "Trumby", "The lights on the hill", and many many more, with over 50 Records to his name he was a true legend of Australian music.
I'm not a country music fan generally, but Slim is a top level Aussie storyteller. I have met him at a pub gig many years ago and we chatted briefly, icon indeed. Another great Aussie in a similar vein is John Williamson. Check out Slim's songs Duncan and also Pub With No Beer.
G'day mate. You just listened to one of our most Treasured artist.RIP.slim. You know this was written by Don Walker for slim who you have listened to. The piano player in Cold Chisel.. Thanks for reacting to this song. Keep up the great reactions mate.
in 1981, astronauts Bob Crippen and John Young played Slim Dusty’s “Waltzing Matilda” from space shuttle 'Columbia' as it passed over Australia. Surprisingly it was the first broadcast of a song from space.
i think this was written by Don Walker of Cold Chisel fame. One of my favourite Slim Dusty songs is The Lights on the Hill, written by his wife Joy McKean.
Slim was a legend here in Australia. Your reaction to this is brilliant. You're well entitled to say you're not a fan of a certain genre but appreciate certain songs from that genre
This was the title track from his 100th album release (released in 2000 only a few years before he passed) In total he released 122 albums including more than 70 gold/platinum albums.
American country is often about patriotism. Australian country music is generally about the people of the land and other every day people. Slim Dusty is an important historical figure in the Australian music industry because until Slim came along, Australian record companies only imported music from the UK and the USA mostly, never recording Australian artists. Slim Dusty refused hearing no and bugged them over and over until they gave in. Slim Dusty and Smokey Dawson. It is for these two country music artists that Australia has the music industry we have. This song, Looking Forward Looking Back was from his 100th album(final album). He died during the process of working on his 101st album.
At the beginning you can see the words of a poem by Henry Lawson. Henry Lawson was a late 19th century Australian poet and storyteller whose writings helped to shape Australian culture in a big way. He and of course Slim Dusty have been a big part of our Australian cultural history.
I'm like you Nick, country isn't my thang, however, Slim and Johm Williamson are legends due to their Aussie flavour and their longevity which deserves great respect ✌️🥰
A nice left handed wrongon from Aldridge. Brother thought he could leave a country song outside the off stump but ended up playing it on and nearly losing his wicket.
the colored figures you see all around the walls when he walks in are local clan groups of Aboriginal totems. He was deeply entwined with the first peoples
This is true Australian Country Music. I was born in a very small country town in New South Wales and we lived and my Dad worked on a Sheep Station or Farm. Slim used to tour all the little country town town’s and his family were always with him. One time in our little 2 room School there was much excitement when his kids come too our school while Slim and his wife were putting shows on around our area. When my Brother Inlaw passed last year he had requested, this song e played and as he was lowered into the ground it was played and it really fit the occasion. 🎼❤️🇦🇺❤️🇺🇸🕺🏻💃🎸☘️
In Australia we say most slings wear crowns ours wore an Akubra. Check out Lights On the hill One truckies epitah and names upon the wall all from his truck albums.
This is a dreadful example of Slim Dusty. As an Aussie Im embarrassed that such n ultra boring song is your introduction to our icon. Most Slim Dusty fans wont know this sentimental dribble. My sincere apology sir. Whoever suggested it ..???? "Pub with no beer", or "Id like to have a beer with Duncan" or "lights on the hill". This guy could and did write great country tunes.
Slim Dusty was born and raised in my little corner of the world. I am not a Slim fan however I appreciate he's a legend here in Australia, was very successful and a good, decent bloke. I also appreciate your fair comments...he's not my cup of tea either but has a massive following.
Oh gosh this brings back memories, I inherited my grandads car which had a slim dusty tape stuck in the tape deck. I drove around for a year listening to slim dusty on repeat until I had enough money to pay to get it taken out ( the joys of a struggling uni student 😂) I appreciate his talent but I’m still not a fan 😂
Legend in oz hes a true blue storyteller you got to checkout when the rain tumbles down in July first recording on a live radio station the vocals remind me of a young Chad Morgan who in his own right is great but slim tells us of his experiences in the out back and tough yakka
I remember as a young fella working hospitality for a conference on Fraser. We hit the pub one night smashing jugs of beer like no tomorrow. They put on ol slim and want have a beer with Duncan to try to get us to go home. Couple hours later the songs is still repeating and we are all singing at the top of our lungs!
I get it bruh. I am not a fan of country music either. Most of it sounds like a cat having its tail pulled. I do like a good song that tells a story though.
Slim Dusty was Australia's King of Country. Very well known & loved in Australia. Slim Dusty passed away on 19 September 2003 at the age of 76 after a protracted battle with lung and kidney cancer.
My dad's a huge Slim Dusty fan and took me to see Slim and Joy when I was a child, I told Joy that she looked pretty 😂 We met Slim years later, a couple of years before he passed away. Slim's daughter Anne Kirkpatrick is a good singer too.
The king of Australian country. There are other Oz country legends worth dipping in… Chad Morgan, Lee Kernaghan, John Williamson, Frank Ifield, many others. Morgan is still with us, 89, the “Sheik of Scrubby Creek.”
Slim was dad's favourite artist, remember he had a collection of Slims albums when they were back on cassettes, boxes off them. His music will alwa6s have a special place for me. Trivia fact this song was the title track from Slims 100th album and was written by Don Walker from Cold Chisel.
