James Johnson leads the band on Slim Harpo's Baby Scratch My Back at the Slim Harpo Awards in Baton Rouge, La. March 24, 2011 held at the Louisiana State Museum. James Johnson lead guitar and vocals, Henry Gray piano, Johnny Rossetti guitar, Kenny Neal harmonica, Jesse Kinchen drums, Rudy Richard guitar.

That there should be such a thing as a Slim Harpo Award makes me happy, but maybe sad he never got one. I only discovered this title 50 yrs late around 2016. I described my findings on it in my Blog at the time as: - "Genre Mix: Rhythm & Blues meets the Swamp Blues I like this for its easy groove, with Slim's simple harmonica figures. His only #1 on the soul singles chart where it stayed for 2 weeks. It also crossed over to the Top 40 and was his most commercially successful single. Some nifty dance clips too."

Harmonica player is sooooo smooth. As a player myself who loves to play this song almost daily II can't quite play this song as good as he does. Like I said he's smooth and has soul..

@@densolvang718 I learned by paying my dues regarding the investment I made in practice time. The more hours one practices the more muscle memory added to long term memory. I got a lot of practice time in while driving. I drive 20,000 miles a year doing my job and played most of that time. Driving also involves muscle memory and for me I had no issues concentrating on my driving. RU-vid has a lot of videos teaching harmonica and some even post tabs. There is plenty of literature available too. As you practice you will keep learning new things that will improve your playing.

what a great harp player, if he had only been allowed to play the intro it would have been perfect, why was he not on stage before the guitarist started? as that song starts on the harmonica note not the guitar
