This episode was actually really endearing. It felt like the cartoons I use to watch as a kid. There was no politics or ham-fisted moments in this episode. The show felt like it could just be itself for once. There were interesting camera angles, great environments and beautiful music. That song at 0:02 is so gentle. 1:08 Why does that light purple hair dwarf girl have human ears now. In the opening she had dwarf ears. 5:54 She got real wider in this scene. 10:25 That boy ain't right. I don't want to know what happened to his other friends.
This episode is a good example of how the show would have benefited from being a kids show, and having a clear audience as opposed to the confusing "mature content" warning paired with the weirdly condescending and childish explanations of things like being trans and the conflicts the characters have.
I think they needed to show this entire season to some test audiences to gauge what elements worked and what didn’t, because the quality seems to be all over the place. Although, there were some test screenings for the pilot, but clearly that wasn’t enough.
This does have kid show vibes. Plus not like adults won't watch it either consider other shows aimed for a younger audience has it's fair share of older viewers.
I've read somewhere the mic wasn't that bad but the actors had to do the acting at their home because of the pandemic and it was more of an audio compression issue, im not sure though
@@li0nna That's a lie. It was finished in 2019, before the Coof hit. Remember, the original trailer was from 2018, and the show had an initial release point of 2019. They were just sitting on it due to the massive backlash from subscribers saying that they never agreed for their subscription fees to pay for this trash. Anyway, from what I've been able to dig up, he's a musician in a band in Louisiana, and this is his only ever documented voice acting credit in his entire career. Someone I know also took a listen, and he was able to pick up on sound artifacts in the first appearance dialogue, and said he could hear the blanket over the VA's head as soundproofing, along with the single, unmuffled echo of sound bouncing off of a laptop or tablet where his lines were for him to read. My friend used to do the same thing back in college where the arts had effectively no budget, and had to improvise when doing things like amateur voice acting.
Later on the show she tells him how much she cares about him and even helps him with the nail polish, she's pretty great honestly, i hope they kill Rosemary and replace her with Amaryllis if there happens to be a 2nd season
@@ivankapoloq Snap hard carries Rose and Sage. They need to be axed by Axe Girl, and take center stage The Adventures of Axe Girl and Snap Femboye! Featuring: Chad, Slime Boi, and Co!
@@boid9761 pretty true. I feel like this one clip demonstrates though that sage and pink haired bimbo aren't at 1 dimensional as they're made out to be. Seeing the flaws and stuff and them growing from it was a bit less, "these characters are stupid" tho if I'm to be honest, I feel like only reason sage is getting shit is because rosemary exists in the first place, making her also toxic (then again tho she made that shitty comment to snap). I feel like sage wouldn't be that shitty or a character, then again I don't watch the actual show. Could anyone give context on how they see the protags as being 1 dimensional in this 1 clip. The rest I can understand.
if u like his voice, u should listen to the orbiting human circus podcast! His VA Julian Koster created it and he’s the main character, sounds exactly like this (that’s just how Julian Koster talks lol) AND it has a very good storyline :DDD
Slime Boy sounds high bc he uses a lot of drugs to keep carrying this show without having a breakdown Amaryllis is always mad bc she has to carry the show without any kind of suspicious substances since slime boy stole them all
Even so, the pacing is still completely whack here. Like sometimes they don't jus give a chance to let the characters simply react to what was said for a second or two. Idk, the way everyone talks in this just seems off, especially when it's more heavier stuff.
@@lunatica3797 I know right, must have been a change in the writers or something, but the last couple episodes are quite decent. I know a lot of shows that have good or okay starting points but terrible rushed finales. The problem with this show is the opposite, the beginning and most of the middle of the show is ass but the climax and ending bits are much MUCH better. They should've written the show like this from the start and marketed it as a crunchyroll cartoon for kids and teens instead of aNiMe MaDe bY tHe DiVeRsE (which btw is apparently just white lgtbq people) that would've made it a 7/10 imo. It also helps that the Mc finally acknowledge some of her wrong doings and bad character traits, made her more likeable.
If a bunch of third-wave feminazis write two main female characters, there is only one end game...even if it makes absolutely no sense and is completely shoehorned in.
@@FLUFFCHIRP Snap is like: Oh, you showed clear signs of attraction towards me, and I like you too...but since you're thinking about your LIFELONG BEST FRIEND after your first fight in forever, I guess you have a crush on her. *sigh*
@@jonquilgemstone I might be watching these out of order or context but seriously, it doesn't make sense to me right now? Snap & Sage clearly liked each other but why would he bring THIS up?
Okay, I’m afraid I might actually like this Parnelle kid. “Threaten me with something that isn’t one of my life goals.” “I have more human friends that ghost ones now!” He’s great!
I just noticed that Amaryllis and Rosemary have inverted physical characteristics. Rosemary has pink hair, purple eyes, a darker skin color, and her hair is “top-heavy.” Meanwhile, Amaryllis has purple hair, pink eyes, a paler skin color, and her hair is “bottom-heavy.”
Rosemary is the self insert and amaryllis is her alternate evil villain that is totally part of her thoughts that she's a demons nod stuff. We made that type of stuff at like.. 6 years old. These people were professionals and adults. lmao
The creators are making it obvious that Sage and Rosemary are gonna be a couple but they make the Snapdragon and Sage thing so much better. Should just make a show where Snap, Emyrilles and Slime Boy as main characters and have Sage as Snaps love interest or something. Idk it sounds just much better
It would seriously make sense if Snap and Sage got together, while she and Rose actually become better (less toxic) friends. Plus, the whole "protagonist dates one of the bully duo" thing would have made for actually cool dynamics. But noooo, main characters in woke cartoon must be love interests.
Can i just say, that i really love how Slime boy was the voice of reason here? My boy is so amazing. More episodes like this, and the show can be decent for once! Also love Sage and Snapdragon's dynamic and i actually felt bad for Rosemary. Please, just like this, make the whole show just like this.
The show gets a bit better when it goes on. Like the first couple of episodes are complete trash. One of the earlier episodes is good because an experienced cartoon writer comes in, then it becomes bad again. Then the show picks up a bit later. Though to be fair, the purple haired girl and slime boy are unironically and ironically the best characters so this is a bit above the average even for later episodes.
Ax girl is better candidate to be the star of this show. Ax girl is a more entertaining character to watch because she's not trying to be overly happy or perfect like 3 of the 4 main characters. The Elf is the most likeable one of the 4 since she not flawless either, but even she comes off as a typical brooding lone wolf found in billions of other stories. Ax girl however is a selfish psychopath, a bully who insults everyone, gets into fights, lack self-awareness but a part of her cares about her freinds which may set her on a path to learn how to be a better person while fighting evil forces in a magical school. Thats sounds more entertaining to watch then someone who is overly happy and a perfect good girl like Rosemary. If they did that, this show could of been a spoof of Little Witch Academia.
Being honest, if slime boy, parsley, and the purple hair girl that I always forget the name of were the main characters of the show (plus one new fourth member) and the characters like rose were removed, this show would most likely get a 6 or 5/10 because the show's not really that good and the characters I named had flaws to them but they are the one thing that keeps the show going (well, I don't know about parsley but the other two definitely.).
@@jonquilgemstone Everyone forgets Aster, even the wikis, but rewatching his parts from an objective standpoint, he really got shafted for doing nothing wrong, aside from being a bit airheaded.
People keep goin' on about Purple Hair, Mumbles and Femboy, and I'm just here like, who the fuck is that black kid just hangin' around? Why don't we know his name yet? He kinda reminds me of me when I was little, only, y'know, not so androgynous looking.
Honestly this show would've been 50 times better if they didn't call it "anime", air it on Cartoon Network or Nick or something, and probably make it a parody of the genre....
Why aren't we giving my baby boy Snapdragon more credit??? Love that boy, he's so freaking cute and valid Edit: ah shit my bad y'all I havent watched to that part yet so I didn't know. SHE is incredibly freaking cute and valid and we love her 💗
bro this is actually entertaining, the side characters definitely carry it throughout “I have more human friends than ghost ones now!” “are you? you’ve tried like.. zero things.” “imagine, sad Sage.. all her embarrassing memories of wearing dumb hats and being boring and stuff idontknow..”
Slime boy is literally so wise, forgiving, and nice. He warns pinkie and Amaryllis about the spell they’re gonna cast AND suggesting other ways to let their anger out and calm down. Plus, on the Halloween episode, he forgives the cat person for destroying his instrument and also letting the cat go on stage and play with them AND HE IS SO TALENTED. Like he’s so good with instruments. In conclusion, he’s god compared to half the people in this show. He’s even better than the 100 percent female writers WHICH ARE REAL PEOPLE. He’s not sexist like them and much more logical.
High Guardian Spice had four main characters in the form of Rosemary, Sage, Parsley and Thyme but then we had supporting characters like Amaryllis, Snapdragon, Parnelle and Slime Boy. Is it me or the latter four had proven to be more interesting than the four main characters?
I feel like it's because the latter bounce off each other in much more interesting ways than the main four; they feel more like characters than stereotypes, unlike the main characters
Thyme and Parsley could actually stay as a part of the main four, Slime boy and Parnell work better as secondary characters. Anyway, Rosemary and Sage are the worst
"We have more of a father daughter relationship." "Oh, really? Whos who in that scenario." "Oh, uh I have no idea." This could have been funny but it was times SO AWKWARDLY. they just had blank expressions but not in a comedic way. And then they just started the next sentence. The fuck is this AI dialogue
i’ll be honest; personally i don’t mind the individual character designs, i actually really like most of them. the issue is that none of them fit together in the same universe, it feels like a bunch of random oc’s. on a side note i love the purple haired girls voice a lot, im no expert but from a standard viewpoint i think the voice actor did a fantastic job
@@Anna-xh6fk actually the creator did want to make this a kids’ show but Crunchyroll refused to greenlight the show unless they went for a higher rating
Slimeboy seems like such a cool character can’t lie. Type of guy I want to befriend in life. Let’s ask for a show starting Slimeboy and everyone else here instead of Pinkie Pink.
Honestly from the clips I've seen. This show doesn't seem that bad. It has problems and errors in the animation but it's not that bad Though I see why people are mad that crunchy roll lied about where their money is going too.
Wow... this is actually, like, entertaining??! Why didn't they just go with this tone instead of tone-deaf forced politics, innuendos, and violence? It just feels like a decent kids show like this
I feel like I should feel bad for kinda unironicllly liking most of the clips but it's like the cheap, digestible comfort of bad anime dubs from the 2000's.
It’s really telling when one of the BACKGROUND CHARACTERS is the most loved and natural feeling ! Like all the other characters lines feel forced and one note ! But slime boy has so much personality ! Also has in my opinion the best voice actor :)
"HAHA threaten me with something that isn't one of my life goals!" SOMEONE NEEDS TO MAKE A SPIN OFF OF JUST SLIMEBOY AND THAT OTHER KID BC THEY ARE SO ENTERTAINING
The black kid is one of my favourite characters in this, and I hate how he never gets any love. Slime Boy and Purple Girl are both great as well, but the black kid really deserves more recognition.
The friendship/relationship between Snap and Sage is so cute though. I bet with better writers and character designs it would’ve been something amazing.
This show doesn't really seem that bad. Everyone is bashing it and admittedly, it definitely doesn't look like an anime, but it's a pretty decent looking cartoon, plus it doesn't seem as goofy as most popular cartoons nowadays -not gonna say any names-
I agree. The show itself doesn’t look too bad, it’s just been missplaced and has the wrong target audience. Fix those(and a couple of things in the show) and you’ll have another decent cartoon to watch
0:34 I can't help but feel like her dialogue got cut short. "Yeah, you thought." Her inflection makes it sound like she was gonna say "Yeah, you thought wrong."
@@Sparkletta because they seem like opposites that when together balance each other out. She helped cause an issue with the memories and he found a solution with the jars.
@@mellog1512 I also like whole dynamic of the chill/sleepy bard and the bold and brash axe wielding warrior get together, it's like a variation of the malewife and the girlboss (if it was written respectfully). Amaryllis should have also heed Slimeboy's initial warnings before she casted the spell, which could have a decent callback if these characters were featured in a different episode and Amaryllis shows restraint. With the right writers they can definitely work as a team, but alas, this is what we're left with.
2:04 "And, they're our friends. they've stolen each other away from us, And you know what that's called?" Uh, jealousy, Conflicting interests, bad luck? "LARCENY!!" PFFFFF AHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Oh God that got me good, god damn.
Remind me why she wants to be friends with sage and what sage has put into being friends that rose hasn't done 7 times over, or like... at all? I am lacking a lot of context but I don't recall sage doing much at all. She really does not have much reason to be angry as she is, as she's just upset that she can't scold rose for her flaws due to rose already being aware of them and trying to fix them, and both even saying sage is just as flawed. Yes rose is a terrible character, but in real life she'd probably be a pretty cool friend while sage would just be the girl everyone sees as a bigger donkey than Amaryllis the literal school bully. What Redeeming Qualities Does Sage Have As A Friend!?
From what i watched, i wonder if sage is really ashamed that she feels like they grew apart. I genuinely want them to grow apart. Thatd be something kinda fresh to have a part of the story. Have them be friends and in the same friend crew, but rose should definitely find someone else as a best friend. Someone more compatible. Maybe sage would really prefer to not feel like she HAS to watch over her. Like in this scene the ONLY reason they made up was because of rose's trauma. It didnt feel healthy. Making their friendship more casual may be better for them. Im going to watch the entire series and take notes A sense of obligation to a friendship is not often explored in cartoons. It would really give this show more depth.
