But after a when these muscles eventually get atrophied? You have drooping in the bottom of the face. You may have another problem with Marionette lines? No?

Ima guy so I want to ask is this good for people who have unilateral Masseter hypotrophy? I have a square effect on my right side since I do clench my teeth and have had an old habit of biting my teeth and I feel like my case it’s very severe the way the muscle is very strong and it creates a noticeable asymmetry.

Ezcanor, thank you for your question. Yes! Neuromodulator injections are a great treatment for anyone who suffers from masseter hypertrophy. If one muscle is overworked it can become noticeably larger in size and contribute to facial asymmetry, as you are describing. Botox or Dysport injections weaken the muscle and help it to decrease in size, correcting some of the asymmetry. It is important to see an experienced injector who can determine the appropriate number of units needed to match your specific goals.

Do you have get temporalis muscle done along with masseter? Y is it dentist want to do both talkin 125units total. I Think too much

No you do not have to treat the temporals muscle also. We typically use 30 units of Botox per side, or 90 units of Dysport per side.

Hi Doctor, I’ve been looking into this masseter muscle botox for a while due to my clenching of the jaw all day every day. The dentist recommended a nightguard and I use it but it doesn’t help so much when I clench during the day as well, most likely from anxiety. When someone gets the botox and the muscle relaxes, will it permanently slim your face a little, as long as you don’t pick up on the habit of clenching again?

Treating the masseters with neuromodulators has a dual effect (slimming and treating TMJ), but are not permanent. It is a temporary treatment that lasts about 3 to 4 months. why is the results not permanent? do people grow back the masseter muscles that had shrinken?

Hi Xzuajk, To treat the masseter muscle we use Botox. It's a purified protein that, when injected into a targeted facial muscle, blocks the nerve impulses to that muscle. As a result, the muscle relaxes. It causes atrophy of the masseter muscle and reduction of the force of contraction. Once the Botox wears off the muscle contraction and size usually returns to normal. Results will last about 3-6 months. You can maintain and improve upon the longevity of your results with regularly scheduled maintenance treatments. I am terrified because 4 days ago with Dysport instead of Botox. Do you think the dysport is going to spread all over my face into smile muscles. I had dysport in glabellar lines do you think it can go inside my eyes. Is it permanent if something goes wrong with your smile? I am very scared.

Hi Julia, Because Botox/Dysport paralyze facial muscles by blocking the nerves, there isn’t much that can be done to reverse the effect should you get over injected by an inexperienced injector. We believe getting touch-up treatments 1-2 times a year to maintain results is the safest option. Would you agree?

Overtime, as your masseter muscles reduce with consecutive treatment, your results could last longer. It may take 3 or more appointments, at 6-month intervals, before this occurs.
