No flashy cuts, no elaborate set-pieces, just a solid script with superb acting and direction. The vision was executed brilliantly. A film that understands the screen is just a big, open stage and takes it's time to breathe and to let you concentrate and soak in the atmosphere, tone, and the mood. The score doesn't overly emphasize what you should be feeling naturally from each scene. Subtle allegorical implications of Karl's position as a guardian angel. I can't think of a single thing that I would change about the movie. There's no agenda, the interpretation is up to the viewer, but every character is handled in a very matter-of-fact manner. What you see is what you get. Much like Karl. Every character is a human, they feel and act as real people, the delivery is genuine. It's just a simple plot but an efficient and effective plot. Suffice it to say, I think this is one of the greatest films of the 20th century. Possibly all time. Such, such a good movie.

His moms in those movies were fairly interchangeable, too. It totally works if you want to go with it. Karl got taken away but not before he showed him how to change the spark plug on a lawn mower. Billyshead133 ....so who invented the "rest in peace" aka R.I.P. saying, anyway? HEAVEN OR HELL .....guaranteed, you're not going to get any rest in HELL. And in HEAVEN, who wants to rest?!! In the presence of GOD ALMIGHTY, nothing else matters!!!!!!! IT IS WRITTEN, TWICE IN FACT. IN ISAIAH 48:22 , IT SAYS "THERE IS NO PEACE," SAYS THE LORD, "FOR THE WICKED." AND IN ISAIAH 57:20-21 BUT THE WICKED ARE LIKE THE TROUBLED SEA, WHEN IT CANNOT REST, WHOSE WATERS CAST UP MIRE & DIRT. vs21 "THERE IS NO PEACE", SAYS MY GOD, "FOR THE WICKED." ............SO THE MORAL TO THE STORY IS THIS, "ITS A GOOD DAY TO KNOW THE KING OF KINGS & LORD OF LORDS & TO BE KNOWN BY HIM!!!" BECAUSE IF ITS YOUR TIME TO GET YOUR TICKET PUNCHED, ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD WON'T BUY YOU ANOTHER MINUTE ON THIS PLANET. JESUS SAYS THAT, "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, & THE LIFE! NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME." HE ALREADY PAYED FOR OUR SOULS BY WILLINGLY DYING ON THE CROSS TO APPEASE THE WRATH OF GOD ALMIGHTY. YOUR FINE IS PAYED IN FULL. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS REPENT OF YOUR CRIMES, YOU SINS AGAINST GOD & ASK HIM TO FORGIVE YOU, & COME INTO YOUR HEART & SAVE YOU. THEN TELL HIM THAT YOU WILL LIVE FOR HIM NOW & FOREVER. IF YOU DO THIS & MEAN IT (YOU CANNOT FOOL GOD) YOU WILL BE ON YOUR WAY PREPARING FOR YOUR ENTRANCE INTO HIS HEAVENLY KINGDOM! HE LOVED YOU ENOUGH TO TAKE YOUR PUNISHMENT OF ETERNAL DAMNATION & MINE, WHICH WAS A LIFE OF SIN UPON SIN, & BE CRUCIFIED TO SET US FREE! FREE GIFT FROM OUR HOLY GOD!!! FREE GIFT OF ETERNAL SALVATION.....OR AN EARNED GIFT OF AN ETERNITY IN HELL. FOR THE WAGES OF SIN IS DEATH... BUT THE GIFT IS ETERNAL LIFE IN JESUS. Carl is in fact a "guys guy". Slow, but underestimated by everyone intellectually. A constant thinker who cares for people even though most people never really cared about him. A man, when it comes to tools and working with his hands, and the balls to stand up for what's right and do what needs to be done to protect others, despite his own consequences. Simple yet principled man, who recognizes there is evil in the world, and ultimately he has the courage to confront it.

@markprater1

@@@brycewakefield6565: Gotta say I agree for the most part, but I had a Brother-in-law that was definitely a Guy-Guy; ex- military aircraft mechanic that didn't deny his homosexuality, he just didn't broadcast it. Most manly gay man I've ever met. Got locked up for a Road Rage incident; he got cut off in traffic and followed the guy and whipped his ass. That's my biggest beef with gay men. What you do at home is your business. Why do you have to act like a bitch? 9 times out of 10, it's your walk, speech patterns, dress, or vernacular. Keep your private shit private.
@davidjorgensen877
@davidjorgensen877 4 года назад
@@markprater1 Basically you're saying it's okay to be gay as long as you "act like a guy". What you don't seem to get is that some guys don't act according to superficial social norms, because that's not who they are, and they'd rather just go ahead and be themselves instead of pretending to be someone you approve of. If people being themselves is a problem for you, the problem is entirely yours. Grow up. Edit: And it's interesting that your example to show what a "manly gay man" your brother-in-law is concerns the fact that he got locked up for kicking someone's ass in a road rage incident. Given that he's the one who got locked up, it would appear that he is an asshole. If being an asshole is your definition of a "manly man" then you're also an asshole. Just admit that the only reason you give your brother-in-law a pass is because you personally know the guy and so you scrounge for excuses to justify why you're okay with him. Deep down you're still a homophobe.
@HAL-dm1eh
@HAL-dm1eh 4 года назад
@@davidjorgensen877 I think he was giving an example of the perception of a "guy guy" that is not necessarily hetero and I agree with him. The more effeminate a guy is the less of a guy guy he is going to be, it doesn't matter what his sexual orientation is. It's more of a behavior and view of the world thing, whether that's inherent or learned. There are plenty of hetero guys that aren't guy guys. It's just some people instantly write off "homo" as not being guy guy and that's just stupid.
@davidjorgensen877
@davidjorgensen877 4 года назад
@@HAL-dm1eh The term "guy's guy" literally means a guy who possesses qualities that most other guys would admire and wish they possessed. The OP's prime example of his brother-in-law being a guy's guy is the fact that he got arrested for whooping someone's ass in a road rage incident. If he'd whooped the other guy's ass for trying to rob or mug someone I'd agree. But being a self-entitled loose canon is not guy's guy behaviour. It's just being a schoolyard bully - not admirable in the least.
@HAL-dm1eh
@HAL-dm1eh 4 года назад
@@davidjorgensen877 While it's not admirable behavior in a civilized society it isn't exactly "sissy" behavior either, which was exactly his point. Whether right or wrong, the guy was capable of taking care of situations physically. This stereotype was in the movie as well. "He likes to go with men instead of women, that makes him not be able to fight too good." That was blatant display by the writer of the extreme and stupid side of stereotypes with some humor mixed in. It was extremely well done. Even though Mr Ritter's character may not have been personally up to that task and was not a physical man, there are plenty of guys out there with the same sexual preferences as him that would have made short order of the likes of Doyle. At the same time, it made Mr Ritter's character NOT a "guy guy". Is this THAT complex for you to grasp?

Jeffrey Buck - Yeah but she picked Carl to live with them and he ended up saving their lives, maybe she just got lucky with Carl? Imagine how life would of been if Carl wasn’t there, she would of been a battered housewife and Frankie would be in prison due to being fucked up by this monster. I love this movie, Carl is such an unlikely hero.

Love the part When Carl and John are talking one on one and the subtle expressions like when John swallows after he hears Carl just came from the hospital and even the little tongue click John makes mid start of the first word he says next. The acting and the way it’s shot really makes you feel encapsulated in the scene.
