I haven’t heard that south Louisiana accent since I worked in the gulf 20 odd years ago! 🙂 Good stuff-I’m just starting to tinker with slinging (learning the knots now) but it looks like it’s going to be fun! 👍
I had no idea people actually do this. It's awesome! When I was a kid I saw a movie called " clan of the cave bear" and they used slings. So I mad one with some string and an old shirt for the amo. I used to use it to get the apples out of my yard. Made yard work fun. I could throw an apple 2 streets over. I feel bad for the everything I probably hit. But I was a kid.
"one goes to your elbow, one goes to your shoulder......I dunno".yeah im subscribing. slings are neat, id love to see if there could be some sort of sling science developed to make the perfect shot most times like an arrow. I bet we could bring it back in the western world as som kind of off sport and turn it olympic.
I love your vid ! I find the weight of the object and the size really affects accuracy. I mold lead into Golfballs so the size is consistent and the weight is heavy and I’m pretty confident I could make David proud !
Another way to have found the length of the "12ft" sling was, in fact, in having held it with your outstretched arms like that. Your arms outstretched to a T measures to about one fathom, which is 2 yards, which is 6 feet. The length of your outstretched arms is also relatively equal to your overall height, which is why one would consider a "fathom" relative when using their arms
Would you put the 12 ft one on the store cause id love to have one just to show off and have some crazy fun even though it wouldn't be practical what so ever
I was so confused at first because when I measure my sling I just measure the bottom of the pouch to the end of the throwing arm . So when you said a 36 inch sling I was like that should be a lot bigger that or he tall af. Anyways keep up the great work, your videos are very informative!
I see them old Aedes Aegypti skeeters are gettin' ya, Channing. Those are known as the state bird of Texas (and Louisiana if you like). They are one reason I moved from the Texas gulf coast to northern Arkansas.
You did good. I have a question, you can throw the ball at the target at close distance, I though that these were supposed to be used at a distance after you learn to use them. What is the longest distance you can sling a baseball and hit the target? Try trowing the ball and see how back before you can hit it and then step back another 10 yards and use the sling. Also try just spinning the ball over head 3 times instead of 6 and see what happens. I have watch several of your videos and you are getting good.
I like how you can nail the targets with force. Your shots are not some weak and slow trick shots to gain accuracy to hit the target. I have watched those competition videos and I can tell you are one of the hardest hitter amongst them. So why does it matter to hit hard when you gain points from hits. For me it's the reason that sling is a weapon. In ancient times there was no point of using a sling if you can't terminate your targets with force.🙄 Good slinging and I hope you get some fame for your smiling slings.
Bet them base balls are bruised up pretty good. lol You're a bad dude ! Thanks for the video and your time doing this. Beginner here, started with a home made 72 incher. Now I know I need to take it down to half that. Thanks again ! Good luck in Spain !
The long slings feels alot more accurate from longer distances. I think it has to do with the projectile being furter from the throwing hand, making it quite hard for the brain to coordinate. Personally i can't hit anything with a short sling
Ah I wanted to make an 80 cm sling to start (with rocks)... Guess from this test that's WAY too short for me (especially being a fair bit taller than you). 48 inches or longer it is. Good video. Edit: OK 60 (about 150 cm) it is.
I just started three days ago and yesterday I was able to mimic your technique and sling a few stones about 70m. I absolutely love that I stumbled upon this channel and can't wait to buy one of your 60' slings. How do you deal with the elbow/shoulder pain?
My fave length all around is from hand to centre of throat, short sling just doesn't feel good to me and any longer, the underhands for distance just hits the ground too much.
“GREAT” point about length/weight ratio. I’m learning a lot about that being new to Slinging! Also did you mean baseball weight rocks or size? Thank You again?
Great video like always. I would like to know how many strands you use for your slings and what the weight is (i think ill buy one, because they look cool and the performance is great)
He uses four strands, the slings are surprisingly light, and the adjustable pouch allows you to sling a variety of rock sizes very safely without them flying out. They have dual finger loops, which isn't a typical design feature, but actually works extremely well for dissipating pressure when slinging for a long time. The build quality is absolutely fantastic, if you live in the US it is definitely worth a buy, hell, I brought one (60") and I live outside the US, so I payed out the ass for shipping costs. Hope this helps.
So, I got into making paracord whips long before it occurred to me to make a sling with some....I notice in this video, it sounds like the end of your sling is cracking like a whip, or is this just an effect from the camera's mic and the environment you are slinging in?
im a beginner , i just got a 60" from channing , now i can't help but wonder if i should also have a 72" what are some of the considerations for different lengths ? Thanks! ps: im about the same height as Channing im 5'10" or 178cm tall
