Yeah, I feel like all the other stuff has been done like 1000 times but I had the dummy head anyways so figured I might have fun with it. And yeah, the sling crushed it, pun intended.
I started slinging last week lol, I got a random video in my feed of a guy hitting a target at like 200 yards with one and kinda liked the idea of trying it, I realized I had some tanned deer hide and a bunch of Kevlar twine so I decided to make one (a 36 inch) lol. I've spent a couple hours practicing with it and have gotten some really great throws, I started out using tennis balls to get a feel for it, then I filled them with water, and now that I'm more comfortable with the basics I've moved up to river rocks. This shit is FUN! I'm definitely hooked now lol😂
I carry one I've made as an edc item. I used 550 cord and a boat tow strap for the pouch. It holds up better than leather and doesn't have as much stretch to it too allow for faster stone launching!
On thing about historic throwing axes (iam not the guy who asked) : They where mainly used bye the franks as far as we know and it was more used as a modern "fragmentation" amo. Why ? Cause apparently historical throwing axes " Francicas" where able to bounce everywhere inclunding the ground (due to their geometry). This was apparently deadly on tight enemy formation. Some franks where apparently aiming the floor just in front of their enemy with a raised shield. This way the axe could bounce under the shield and strike lower body parts of even under the chin.. Could be fun to check if its true
You’re killing it in the longer form content! And I’m glad to see you’re doing patreon to help fund things, you’re definitely worthy of getting some money flowing in.
Thank you so kindly and I am so glad you enjoy it. It’s way more fun to make long form content so I am thrilled you have been liking it. A labor of love for sure
Great video , I loved the intro, it would be awesome to see more skits like that to open future videos. And I feel you on the weather, got almost the exact same weather forecast out here in phoenix, its brutal man.
Another great video. You are really finding your element. I know they are pricey, but hope to see more ballistic dummies in your future. Always neat to see how effective these weapons are.
Thank you so much, I am so glad you enjoyed it. I would love to get more in the future for sure. Just gotta budget them to like one a month or so but I’m having a ton of fun and I do feel like I’m finding a bit of a better groove thank you.
Great video as usual Dash 👌 my brother has been messing around with a sling he's made recently, I go over to his house to shoot my bow (only 60lbs at 28"), and I have to say I watch all of your videos, but seeing a sling be used with my own eyes first hand was pretty impressive. I'll always be an archer at heart but seeing the teeth go flying the way they did, and the fracture on the side of the skull, that was incredible 😲
Thank you so kindly, I am so happy you enjoy the videos and I am honestly even shocked at how damaging the sling was to the ballistic dummy: i knew it was powerful but seeing that was just crazy
@dashrendar5320 it was truly an awesome sight to behold, I know those things are super expensive but it would have been so satisfying to use as a target. "Kid in a candy store" was well put 👌 Thanks again my friend, love seeing the channel grow and I look forward to the next one 😀
Ya, I loved Gladiator despite those inaccuracies but not sure if I can put myself through that directors latest work of having Napolean shoot the pyramids with cannons etc.
Oh, btw if you wanted a much more accurate result with the helmets, I recommend tying the cheek pieces under the chin as was done in the day so that it doesnt shift or fall off. Will make a huge difference actually.
The spear was cool, honestly, because I wasn't expecting it to create such carnage based on how fast (or how slowly) it seems to be flying compared to, say, arrows or rocks.
The intro had me laughing so hard 😂. I wasn't surprised on the impact of the spear axe or sword. But the sling 😮, that was insane, i would love to learn to use one, but haven't got the room to make mistakes..honestly of i lived near you i would be round everyday practicing sling and archery. Archery i can do safely in my back garden, but sling certainly not. You are very fortunate to have a big enough space to practice all this safely. Now i would like to see what it would take to completely smash a chariot, obviously going to be hard to build one, but doable..😉 would love to see that..
the sling was by far the craziest. i had no idea they were such powerful weapons. probably far better then arrows vs steel armor. blunt force is king vs hardened targets after all
Oh Maxi Maxi, you always fought hard even though you didn't have arms. You've endured the onslaught of the really really good looking slinger. Enjoy your retirement! 😂🎉
0:50 made me laugh out loud, that was some Roadrunner & Wile E. Coyote brand of funny. Thanks for that! Have to admit this made my stomach turn a little, watching Varus getting bludgeoned like that was gross. Almost like how I felt when I heard they were making a sequel to Gladiator... :P I'll give it a chance. Maybe. Have a Grond (smashing/thunderous) week!
Yeah it was absolutely savage, the way it turned the bone into basically powder was just insane. And yeah they just released the trailer for a second gladiator
Love the content! Have u ever thought of recreating the David and Goliath interaction? If not it would be nice to see if u can recreate it bc tbh ur the only person I watch that can sling a rock at mach Jesus speed 🤣
Haha thanks man. Yeah I have thought about the best way to do that and make it cool and everything. That’s probably in the next few videos, gotta figure out how to set it up
It would be pretty cool if someone would make a medieval movie about some warrior and cast you in their lead role I think it would be a pretty good movie✌️
Well I can’t post anything about it yet because of NDA but in may I was actually hired by a production company to training a slinger in a pretty big budget series coming out soon. They flew me out to Greece for 2 weeks to train the actor. I have some behind the scenes footage but am waiting for them to tell me it’s okay to post it
Hey Dash... Have you seen the Roman slingshot that was found? They had holes drilled all the way through them. The surmisation from this is that the hole made the slingshot whistle or shriek as it was slung at your opponent.? Could you imagine a battlefield of Roman slingers throwing these stones towards you? The noise must have been terrifying alone, then your oppo next to you have the side of his head explode as they get hit. It'd be interesting to see if you could recreate a whistling sling stone.
I read an interesting account of a Greek army stuck in Persia getting harassed and peppered by superior archers. So the general gathered up all of the shepherds etc who carried slings with them and formed them into a unit and were able to fight their way out as the slings outranged the bows of the time. I need to find this to put some names to it because for the life of me I can't remember!
dang it I was happy for the first time in my life I succeed not to think about The Roman Empire for more than 2 days and Dash release this video and now I'm back into it, and will have to watch some Metatron and Invicta video after this one lol
It's criminal that the view count is this low on a video that's this good. RU-vid is screwing creators like this so hard... great content. Please don't stop. Hopefully a better platform will exist soon. Either that, or advertising companies stop being such pansies
@@dashrendar5320oh for sure. That's probably closer to a shotgun slug. But now the question is, do atlatls produce similar devastation to a bow or javelin?
That was a fun video! 😁 However, I have to make a few remarks: 0:30 When addressing your friend Varus you would use the vocative case instead of the nominative case and say "Vare". 2:40 Teutoburg isn't pronounced "Tü-to-börg" but "Toy-to-boorg". I might be mistaken but the plates of the lorica segmentata and the helmet you are using look very thin to me. They should be about 1.5 mm thick (maybe even 2 mm for the helmet). 🙂
Man to hir something is such an absolute brutal brutal exercise. The patience required to even get a rock to go in the general direction took so much practice 😂
Yes, that was the plan. I had someone who’s gonna make a batch of them for me however he could not do it in time and you have to use ballistic dummy, heads like a week or two after you get them
Your previous slinging videos sold me on them, this is just rubbing it in. 😅 I'm trying decide on one from Hilltophurler, but I have no clue which would be ideal for use with my weakling physique.
@@dashrendar5320 Stop you can't sell me on it any harder lol. Which do you recommend for a beginner; lighter/thinner, or thicker/heavier braid & pouch? Is a heavier & slower sling w/ projectile better for practicing timing? I'll guess the version with essentially no pouch is probably the most difficult to use though. Thanks for everything!
Start with a pouch for sure. The split pouch is way harder to get good with as the rocks fly out all time when learning. The bigger hammock in the back is far more forgiving
I *think* That you have mentioned you are in one of the Carolinas before and I just want to throw out an invitation to one of our buhurt fights, we are having one in October and one in November that we are putting on in Virginia. October 12th at afterglow brewing And November 2nd at Hampton roads winery.
That would be a better question for a gun guy haha I’m sure they can make something that would stop it, but it would have to be like 1 inch thick and completely unwearable haha
Well it depends on the shot for sure. If you have legit lead shot that’s gonna do wayyyy more damage than just the river rock I use. Which still does do a lot of damage
Maybe they would, in this specific circumstance - the battle of Teutoburg Forest is believed to have had four phases: first a german ambush of the marching column, then roman defence of a hastily built fortification, then a fighting retreat, then an ultimately hopeless attempt to storm a fortification that Arminius had actually built across their line of retreat. Arminius was Roman raised and educated - he really knew what he was doing. But under more favourable circumstances, a soldier with a crippling but nonlethal injury could expect decent medical attention and then to be invalided out of service if he was no longer fit for service.
