And not only the final draw force is, what counts, but the elongation-force chart. The area below the chart is the energy we invested into the draw. This will accelerate the ball.
The Problem is you have not indicated the thickness of the band. GZK comes in everything from .54- 1.2 depending which color you choose. Was the Black a .54, .62, .72, .80, or even more out of the norm? Same with several of the other bands? .54 is not apples to apples to .80. This would be even more telling.
At the time this was made there were not a lot of different widths available. Gzk was .70 standard which is the same as all the other widths in the test with the exception of 40 latex
Nice weather there in Alabama. Terrific video with loads of useful info. I make up bands with all types of materials including the Golds Gym stuff, but not having a chrony, I don't really know what kind of velocity I'm getting.. You can tell though when you have a good combo of band material, taper and ammo cause you get a lot of zip and hitting power. Love that zip!
I shoot double and triple layer bands made with Theraband Blue to specifications from 1611torsten's RU-vid channel. They are very zippy, but have a relative short life span. It was fun to experiment with them though.
Very informative video.Dan lots of people including myself sometimes use the #107 rubber bands. The regular band using 1 band per side and the pale crepe gold using 2 bands per side both cut to 9 to 9.5" active. The one with 2 bands per side will have pseudo taper at the fork if you overlap them correctly. Have you ever tested these. They are very easy to use cause you don't have to cut them. They seem pretty fast to me at around 40" draw.
That chrony should go into decimal places for a better reading. 1 meter is almost 3 feet so in the conversion it will make a significant difference when averaging the 3 shots.
thanks for this. nice to see real side by side comparisons. would be interesting to see the same with each firing lighter and heavier ammo. 1 gram mud 3.5 gram steel and 5.4 gram lead. (all in the 9-10mm). would be a 'better' test of band bound, or am i thinking too much?
A very interesting video Cheers Dan. I use .8 Snipersling black from China with 3/8 Steel. I cut my Bands at 30mm to 20mm with about 7inch active Band length I get great speeds and its hard hitting But the Bands don't last at all long as they snap pretty regularly unfortunately
you probably are over powering the ammo. that a monster bandset for 3/8. if you upped the ammo to 7/16 or even 1/2 your bands could last longer i bet. and also could be your tying method with how tight you tie the pouch on the latex etc. alot of factors can go into what causes frequent breakage.
@@richyoung4051 Tying the pouch is definitely a factor! .Have got to be very careful not to overtighten the band im attaching etc ..But i am finding recently that the. 8 Green Snipersling is working well for me and Although some would say that I am using too much Elastic for 3/8 Soft Steel Bearings i would say that i get a Damn Good Wallop to All that i hit and easily punch straight through a Baked Bean tin at 25 yards and to my mind thats ok for an Elastic Band and a Tree Branch!😆
Very informative. If you had a 30 inch draw length and bands 6 inches long, how does velocity compare to 42 inch a 8.5 inch bands? Just getting started and wondering which style draw to learn, accuracy vs velocity. Thanks again
You will get a small increase in velocity with a longer draw but not enough to sacrifice accuracy. Decide which style your most accurate with and you can always adjust your band size and taper with ammo size to get your desires velocity.
I have been testing several different types of bands myself as everyone has different opinions, my results are always the same , I'm not saying there right but they are for me , firstly I've found the GZK stiff gives move hand slaps ,and tends to come out of the wrap and tuck after a while I got the band's from eBay so not my wraps , GZK I dont like it .TB gold is very good as everyone knows I like that, But for me Double silver TB from 30mm to 25mm is the best seems to last longer ,it's faster and I hit the spinner far more times, So for me Double silver TB is a clear winner, Nice clip by the way
3/8 inch steel ball is around 3.55 grams, let's say it is going 80m/s(262 ft/s) it is just over 11 joules of energy. It is not very impressive to be honest.
Hey Dan when or will we get an update on bands With all the new bands some are pretty heavy duty nowadays but do they last as long as the next What about the quality of some etc.This is still a great video either way💯👍
I even made a replacement spaz 12 sho gun i shoot like 4or 5 steelies at once shit is bad ass the paint job on the spaz 12 is coller than most crappy ppl t making on the net
@Ford Prefect I don't even use theraband gold anymore...Iike Precise latex or Snipersling latex...it lasts much longer and performs better...especially in cold weather. I hunt all year round in Canada during the coldest winter days...the bands barely slow down. No need to keep them inside my jacket like I had to with TBG
@Ford Prefect the Precise and Snipersling is even more faster in the summer heat. I get 300+fps with 3/8 steel with .70....only get about 260fps with the same cut TBG...and thats with my old stock TBG before they changed the formula. Dan does a video on comparing the new Chinese latex to the current TBG...he says it is garbage
Hey Dan . Did you break in all the band sets with a least 20 shots to get a true side by side comparison ? The latex doesn't shoot optimal until its pre-streched at least 20 times as compared to a stiff fresh set .
treefork100 all were shot way over 20 times but some much more than others. the 40 latex is an old set as was the gum rubber. the results really only apply to this certain taper at my draw length at my house with me shooting..so take it with a grain of salt but i did find it interesting that they were all very close..
Wanna get some real speed use a crutch as your frame drill out the studs holding it together but leave the one all the way st the bottom and flip the bottom part around makes it like a ft. Longer I use the whole crutch I'm using 2 __3ft long loops like the medium weight there dark greenvgot them at dunhams i sit n a stoil and can draw back past the butt of the crutch I gotta b shooting well over 400 cuz I have a real pocket shit and I'm blowing that out of the water, I shot a hole threw a concrete wall in my basement with a split shot for fishing it bounced up under the floor in my living room I have an archery and sling shot range in my basement I also have a tubular plastic pipe rod holder for the ocean I rigged up with a 8 in long 2 wide PC of the lightest bands and mounted it to a pallet facing vertical I even can put a whiskey biscuit in and shoot carbon arrows, only thing thats gonna come close to what im doin wud b dankung chinese tubes give it s shot super super fast
Interesting, but not really useful test. It is obvious, that stronger band achieves higher speed. So, if we are looking for the best material, then we have to cut and compare same force bandsets. This test shows us, what happens if you cut same dimension sets from different materials.
Well if it helps give you more confidence I put a 10mm lead ball threw my thumb nail and nearly lost my thumb a few years back never picked up a catapult again since.
