T3 is incredibly capable and the perfect school book example of effective fully locking diffs. Just beautiful implementation of mechanics, resulting to robust, endlessly delivering performance. Would love the opportunity to own one, a true classic.

The 40 years old machine has a much more more serious 4 wheel drive system. The T3 Synchro can do that all day long without much fuss, the T6 can only manage to pull that out for some minutes before stalling into protection mode. Also hydraulic pumps are weak, screen tend to plug from material deposition. Anyways for a trip in the snow both system will be perfectly fine, but during heavy snow and mixed ice condition the T6 is more likely to remain stuck since it is letting the wheels slip much more, it is likely to create dig holes under the wheels that will make the way out even harder.

Syncro with viscous coupling can't do that all day long, the one with part time system can. Visco can hold like 500 Nm while haldex 3500 Nm. On snow, T6 will use traction control to keep you going, in T3 you have to lock the diffs so handling goes down.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers you should be able to lock the coupling which makes up for prolonged operation. Something a smart system like the 4 motion can't to, quickly overheating the coupling and fluid. I've been disappointed in the past to see more and more VW group products using this smart clutch system rather than a proper torque sensing differential.

But I wouldn't trust the VW group to calculate anything... they've already calculated too much and the results are clear to see: temperamental emissions, engines, gearboxes and more. They even disregard Haldex's original hydraulic filter element change interval so in a way they still cheat onto their customers.

I have never overheated my haldex on my Golf 4 4motion. Even after hours of drifting on snow. I had to part with it in 2021 because the clutch broke at 374k kms.. the Haldex still worked perfectly, even with stage 1 at 400NM. Wonderfull car...

Boy the Visco-Kupplung on the T3 must be tight as hell or stuck in hump mode. There was NO slip. Crazy.

There was a little slip so it's rather very tight than hump.

I guess the diff lock on T6 is an option, correct? There are lots of T6 with 4motion, but rarely with diff lock.

Great video, as always! So, is there an EDL on the rear wheels in the T6, or not? Doesn't look to work..?!

Thanks! I believe there is EDL on the rear axle but it is not effective enough...

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers , I have a 2011 T5.1 4motion. Do you think it should have EDL in the rear, also? Or was it introduced on the T6 only? I don't need it because I have diff lock, but wish to know..

​@@zygmuntzarzeckiTak tak, ja rozumiem, ale wtedy byłoby to "do góry nogami" w stosunku do tego, jak ta grafika umieszczona jest w samochodzie, stąd zdecydowaliśmy się na takie ułożenie 🙂
