I have three 2006 XC90’s and will not part with them. Two of them are 7 passenger with AWD. Mine is the odd one with front wheel drive and 5 passenger, it’s much quicker and more fun to drive. Plus one 2006 V70. Love them all.
Just goes to show... The electronics and traction control might be great for the average driver, but when it really comes down to the crunch, and only one wheel has traction, you can't beat having proper locks on all the differentials.
Mam stare volvo xc90 z 2003 na ponad 450 tys km używam je na pole i po lesie na dobrych oponach i po wyłączaniu trakcji dosyć sobie radzi napewno nie jest to terenówka ale zabawa w błocie tez fajna
which MY is the gen I? As I remember, the is 3 versions of HALDEX in gen I XC90's. If I remember correctly it is like:. 03-05 has HALDEX gen 2 (most wheel rotation before engagement) 06-08 has HALDEX gen 3 (1/7th of a wheel spin before engagement) 09-14 has HALDEX gen 4 (immediate engagement)
If you are going to carry out a test it needs to be set on an even playing field. I,m sure the you could of ask the rear passengers to leave the vehicle or asked a couple of passer bys to sit in the older xc90.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers Would definitely be interested in roller test of the T8 Hybrid system. Have not seen one for this generation of SPA Volvo Hybrid cars yet.
not sure the last test was accurate or not, but seem the car slide towards its right side, and the wheel partially end up on the side the of roller. That's how both the 2008 and the 2018 managed to get out.. btw Im a proud owner of a 2007 xc90... need to change its differential seal tomorrow :-O
English below. The only thing that winter mode does is that transmission skips two first gears. Because you decided to make these tests, don't make idiotic things such as testing something without having any clue what you're testing. Winter mode can be tested perfectly without the rollers, as he doesn't has anything to do with the way of distributing power between the wheels.
Może wypadałoby się nie wydurniać i sprawdzić, jak pominięcie danych biegów wpływa na pracę układu, w szczególności kontroli trakcji hmm? Maybe instead of comment about making idiotic things it would be better to find out how skipping the gears affects the operation of the system, especially traction control huh?
The new model wins by a bit because it has a lot bigger rims , if you take a look that rollers are quite fit for new model, but the tires at bigger acceleration scrarch a bit in so that means grip , older xc90 has smaller rims and tires , so they don’t grip on walls of rollers ... Ofcourse in 10 years they improved the AWD but here is not a proof :D
In this case the rims doesn't influence the test. Look at the the difference between huge and very small wheels: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NVkyZJlox4Y.html

Are there any difference between awd systems of these two vehicles? As far as i know, both vehicles are normally front wheel drive and send power rear wheels if anything goes wrong with front wheels...
bilgehan anıl Both have Haldex (different generations) and for sure different software for awd system. I don't know how it was set in 2008, but in 2018 this system is for sure proactive, not reactive, so rear wheels are probably powered almost all the time.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers i know both have Haldex clutches. I have a 2011 Chevrolet Captiva and has similar mechanisms with the old generation xc90 and shows similar behaviour. Probably the reason why the new one shows better performance is the new and complicated software.

@@4x4.tests.on.rollers yes hehhe. i was always afraid to hard lunch my xc90 because i read somewhere that awd on xc series is very fragile and dont tolerate hard lounches. Thanks 4 rply!
@@nikolakurjakovic2188 It is fragile if you compare it to offroaders with armored transfer cases etc. But it is more than enough for SUV vehicle. Besides there are overheating and overload protections.
The Blitz Full throttle is used only when system is hardly cutting power (like in Mercedes), otherwise it would damage the car. In other cases we use it to the level of traction control effective operation.
You could talk us through you results some commentary on what's going on would be good to, i have a older xc90 and would love to know but i am no wiser after watching this, the only people who do understand what the see here is die hard 4x4 fans, but for the average xc90 owner not a chance.
That would be hard to make the same explanation in every video, but this guy does it very well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mryGnENTsoI.html
The car's computer is set up to, as standard, send most power to the front wheels (it's visible in the video) as this is the most efficient. As the computer detects it has no grip at the front, it's trying other wheels until eventually it comes to the one which does have the grip. Due to advancement in computing, you can see that it takes longer on the older car vs the newer model to find the "right" wheel. Also, most modern 4x4/AWD cars have a limit of how much power they can send to the back. This is because front-wheel drive is preferred due to (as mentioned) being more efficient and safer, since the car will have a higher tendency to under steer rather than over steer.

Sanjin-Velebit Pešut I would rather say very good performance, all tests passed. These are not offroad cars, such systems in luxury cars work very smooth, not aggressive.
@@4x4.tests.on.rollers As I can tell from the videos from YT, it seems that Jeep's Quadra Drive 2 and LR Disco 4 tractions systems works very well, swiftly and reliably. Perhaps many new tc works quite well also but this one seems is lacking in performance. Too many wheel spin before tc comes into play and a situation with only one wheel with traction is definitely disappointing. Even though those are just soft SUV-s, tc should, in my belive, work much better.
Sanjin-Velebit Pešut Three roller test is just fun, that is not real scenario. The most important test is on two rollers and here I see very smooth operation. There are cars which can do it faster, but that is uncomfortable feeling inside... Another thing is that we did not try with ESP off, just normal setup.
@@marcwarriner7058 This test has NOTHING in common with MOT rollers and brakes tests. Besides awd cars may be tested on MOT rollers - if they have appropriate option.
