When my good friend Rutuja Gupte told me she wanted me to sing her re-write of "Slipping through my fingers" by Abba from the perspective of the daughter, I was instantly sooo excited!! So here's our rendition of the classic...vocals and music by me (I didn't want to do karaoke so I took it up as a challenge to make this song my own), and all credits for lyrics to Rutuja!!
Lyrics:
School bag in hand, I leave home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile
I feel the surge of the familiar melancholy
And I have to keep walking by
I promise you won't lose me forever
You are always a part of my world
I carry you with me in my laughter
Am a funny little girl
Not slipping through your fingers, I'm holding tight
I am trying to cherish every minute
The feeling in it, remembering the stories every night
You can really see what's on my mind
Every time I think I could hide it
You always find it, holding your fingers just feels right
Words in our eyes, as I get on the early morning flight
Barely awake, I dread the time going by
But as I walk away, I can feel your heart coming with me
And all my guilt gets left behind
I think of all the wonderful adventures
And the bucket list we made over the nights (not slipping through your fingers, I'm holding tight)
And now I have my own, all new adventures
I want to take you on some of those
Not slipping through your fingers,
I'm holding tight
I am trying to cherish every minute
The feeling in it, remembering the stories every night
You can really see what's on my mind
Every time I think I could hide it
You always find it, holding your fingers just feels right
I have the picture propped carefully on my dresser
I see it as I get ready for the day
Holding your fingers
School bag in hand, I leave home in the early morning
Waving goodbye with an absent-minded smile🌻
