A continuation of the teapot video on developing a glaze from Tenmoku glazes. Here I am using some very traditional techniques of slip trailing and finishing up with a more contemporary approach to the slip trailing. The hope is to formulate a glaze from other glazes that enhances the surface of the pots without simply adding a gloss sheen to the surface.

Lovely stuff and all fresh and spontaneous with the tea bowls. It seems almost a crime to me to be putting a dark tenmoku glaze over but heck I know nothing...The slip trailing edging on the plates is a dream to behold, huge thanks for the video.

Thank you, I will now try slip trailing, I love your Video's and have made a lot of fish. All sizes, I will not try the floppy bowl.

The first tool you used is a back scratcher. If you can extend it, I think that is what it is. I have one for the itch you just can't reach. Can't wait to see these with the temoko glaze. We're doing inlay with slip in adult Ed classes I attend. We're going to try it with glaze next week so that will be fun. Thankyou for your ideas in patterns to use x😊

Thanks, is that your owl in the logo picture? I watch a guy in Yorkshire who rescues owls and hawks.

No sadly its not. They are just my favourite bird. I've had the privilege to fly a few but never took the plunge to own one.

Love watching you work your magic! Would love to see the kiln opening for these pieces. Hope you post it. I recently purchased some items from Artisan Pottery Tools; a chattering tool and handle puller. Should be able to practice with them soon! As always, thanks for sharing!

Your decorating skills are amazing ! I was wondering….if I throw with white stoneware, what’s the difference between using that clay body colored with mason stains, and using your different recipes for slip. That always confused me. Is it about adhesion , shrinkage , color. ??Thank you so so much for everything I’ve learned from you.

The regular clay slip will only adhere to soft clay, slips with some fruit content will adhere to almost dry clay, at least up to leather hard state.

that trimming tool looks just like a bent knife. I´ll probably make one for myself.

Vaughan, do you actually touch the nozzle on to the clay, or do you control the slip by squeezing the bottle? I can never control the slip by squeezing the trailer?

I try not to, it is all about the consistency of the slip and timing.

Your orange rake looking tool looks like a back scratcher. It should telescope.

Hi, ive just found you on here and i want to follow you cos your work is brilliant and you explain everything so well, but please can you make your videos without your tumbler on ? as it really distracts from an awesome tutorial and if i turn my volume down i cant hear your advice, hope you're not offended. 👍
