The only reason I think that sucks for Sloan is because they deserve the fame and financial success of Aerosmith or Oasis, but they didn't get it. But I think for the rest of us, it's kind of nice that they are this hidden gem. We can see their concerts. They are kind of stuck performing to Canadian audiences.
I love the Sloans, but they're really only world-famous here in Canada. I don't think that they meet any criterion for admission. It's the world's loss.
For any oblivious male who has been adrift in college but found himself in the orbit of an amazingly smart and attractive girl to whom you have struck her fancy, this is the absolute perfect song. But it is a perfect song anyway.
I met them after a gig in Buffalo. They had their own bus they drove themselves. They were indeed, just awesome guys who spent so much time answering questions especially Chris. I couldn’t of been happier and they’re so good live! They’re about 10 years since I last saw them so I don’t know if they’re doing the epic high kicks, lol. But the crowd was always cool. It’s just a great vibe, the fans are just there to have fun!
Sloan is one of my favorite bands which occasionally i ask myself "why dont i listen to them more ? " The trouble of Music is a buffet of sounds and i want to sample each one, and there are only so many hours in a day.
Man you couldn't be more wrong. Had you added "IMO" at the end of that statement then maybe I could have let it go but you didn't so I couldn't. If you want one from just this Era then I'll give you the tragically hip just for starters.
I have an extremely strong memory of this song being played in heavy rotation with Jump Around by House of Pain on Much Music. I was 14 years old in 1992 and loved both songs. To this day I can't hear one without thinking of the other.
The point is not the grammar, it's the feeling... Affection has two Fs, especially if you're dealing with me... Perfect lyrics to such a classic song, I rediscover every couple of years.
LYRICS She was underwhelmed, if that's a word I know it's not, cause I looked it up That's one of those skills that I learned in my school I was overwhelmed, and I'm sure of that one Cause I learned it back in grade school When I was young She said, "You is funny", I said, "You are funny" She said, "Thank you" and I said, "Never mind" She rolled her eyes, her beautiful eyes The point is not the grammar, it's the feeling That is certainly in my heart But not in hers But not in hers, but not in hers But not in hers, but not in hers We were talking about people that eat meat I felt like an ass cause I was one She said it's okay, but I felt like I just ate my young She is obviously a person with a cause I told her that I don't smoke or drink She told me to loosen up on her way to the L.C She skips her classes and gets good grades I go to my courses rain or shine She's passing her classes while I attend mine While I attend mine, while I attend mine While I attend mine, while I attend She wrote out a story about her life I think it included something about me I'm not sure of that, but I'm sure of one thing Her spelling's atrocious She told me to read between the lines And tell her exactly what I got out of it I told her affection had two Fs Especially when you're dealing with me I usually notice all the little things Once I was proud of it, she says it's annoying She cursed me up and down and rolled her Rs, her beautiful Rs She says I'm caught up in triviality All I really wanna know is what she thinks of me I think my love for her makes me miss the point I miss the point, I miss the point I miss the point, I miss the point I miss the point, I miss the point I miss the point, hey mister
Ya, when I looked up the word "underwhelmed" back in my reality, I couldn't find it either. I guess those skills I learned back in my school are irrelevant now, as it somehow is a word now. I couldn't find the word learnt either back in that same reality. That was so many different realities ago. I miss those days, or that reality. This song brings me back to that reality that I miss, and cherish.
I saw them last week at a private function. They are just as amazing as I always imagined them.. this band is my youth. I love everything Sloan under whelmed and underrated This is what rock ‘n’ roll is about
I love how lyrically it shows how being a meticulously self-important, grammar-nazi dick can affect potential relationships, while on the other hand, the annoying fly-by-the-seem, reckless/apathetic ones can be insufferable, too. My favorite take away being how either one would alienate you; they alienate each other and lack self awareness. I'm surprised this song didn't show up on Letterkenny. Sonically, it's one of the prettiest high energy tracks I've heard from the Nova Scotia scene and the subtext can spell out so many characters.
Heard this on XRT late night in Chicago. Didn’t catch the name of the band but the hook was in my head for years. Went to Purdue which had much music on its cable and have been hooked ever since. Thanks for the awesome music!
Fuck, this song got me hooked on you guys!! Hearing this back in '92, and finding out you guys were from Canada, meant so much. I was in a High School band, and this was one of our covers (we killed the guitar parts, and our drummer did a pretty good imitation...but it sounded like we were murdering the vocals, haha). It's 2018, and you just announced your upcoming tour. I cannot wait!!!
"She is obviously a person with a cause I told her that I don't smoke or drink She told me to loosen up on the way to the L.C." Blew my mind as a teenager hearing such local slang (L.C. = Liquor Commission, short for N.S.L.C.) in a song that was getting played in heavy rotation on Much Music.
It is definitely LC for liquor control. It was probably NSLC for Nova Scotia, as the band is from Nova Scotia. Although, I as an Ontarian, always thought it was short for LCBO (Liquor Control Board of Ontario).

One of the funniest songs I've ever heard "She wrote out a story about her life I think it included somethin' about me I'm not sure of that, but I'm sure of one thing Her spelling's atrocious She told me to read between the lines And tell her exactly what I got out of it I told her affection had two F's Especially when you're dealin' with me" 🤣🤣🤣
Grunge Sux & that does not even include slowing the songs down in the middle. every generation wants and looks for their own different thing. Bests, dtf
