Everything went wrong today David mate. Front 3 were dire along with dom were poor. Thought defence did ok in large periods but it’s an eye opener for slot and hopefully he reacts well coz if not we are in for a long season. I keep the faith though
I noticed last year that we often struggle against the lesser teams we're expected to win easily.. maybe we subconsciously go into the game thinking its going to be easy.. we play better against the better teams.. I think it is probably just a blip (I hope!) VERY important to beat Milan or at least not lose, and to play well/better
Slot is still learning about the PL and his players. Easy to get carried away after 3 good wins but t8me for reality to kick in. There will be more days like this but hopefully it’ll be all part of the winning journey. Cheers David, let’s see what happens mid week.
Some commenters act like we've never lost 1-0 before. It was disappointing but we have a lot to learn. Now is the time to see if Slot can adapt to a physical side with a low block. This won't be the last time we face one. Hudson-Odoi's goal was a beauty, not something you see every day and not something he would score every time. Congratulations to Forest; they played the low block counterattack well. Thanks for the report, David.
Maybe Klopp's 'chaos' that some of the Liverpool journalists have been favorably comparing Arne Slot to was good for beating the low block teams at Anfield....
We saw this last season the inability to break down teams with a low block at least we got it out of the way and I am sure Slot learned a lot from today
Spot on as usual David,,,thank you.A bad day at the office ! Not so much where we went wrong, but,Forest came with a definite ,successful mid field plan.On to the next one Tuesday.YNWA ❤🔴
Guardiola struggled against these type of teams in his first year, so it's not surprising Slot, who plays similar football, is now facing the same challenges. Give the man time, he has shown he's able to figure things out by how quickly his players took to his messages. A game like today represents those nuances of English football which one can only get better against by, well, playing against. A result like today doesn't worry me. It would worry me though if we keep seeing it throughout his tenure. Give him time and don't expect trophies straight away. Champions League qualification this year, and we'll kick on solidly next year.
I wonder if Chiesa was fit and on the bench would Salah have stayed on the pitch. Despite Sozboslai being shocking he wasnt replaced by Jones. For me our midfield is a real worry.
@@markkavanagh6046 I think our midfield is fine. We are not taking into account the importance the players that were lowkey tired amd under pressure today play key roles in their national teams. Today the mid and forwards were not clicking as they were before the break. I think its normal. City had a bad game today as well, but no one will talk about it because today they got the win. Its 4 games in, and we will be fine. We did not have a very bad game, Forest played very well with a team that basically rested, but none the less played a very good game. We will be okay
With Klopp we‘d never lose such a game (when no injury woes hit us), at least not the last 3-5 years. We look the same in the last third like with Klopp: pretty randomly trying things; that is the main difference to City which looks more methodical in the last third of the pitch. I think we can discard any PL dreams. This team is not good enough to go with City for 38 games, maybe/hopefully a cup win, else the main goal is CL qualification.
As much as I was impressed with the team and the manager against United I have been equally disappointed with our performance today. The amount of misplaced passes and wrong decision was ridiculous. For me not improving our midfield this summer will come to bite us. It is clear the manager doesnt rate Endo and they fact he put Trent in the midfield while Jones was on the bench says it all. Any player can have an off day but Soboszlai today was shocking if it wasnt a back pass it was a misplaced pass.
Firstly credit to Forest, they played well. Secondly, it was just one of those days where collectively it didn't click. It happens. I think these international breaks are certainly disruptive to momentum especially to teams who lose more than others on this duty. However I'm not making excuses..
Problem was lack of energy and concentration. Passing was dreadful. Started off okay. attackers were making runs but no service or bad service. Then everyone just went into a lower gear. We need Harvey Elliott as the number 8. hope he helps quickly.
Agree with the point about being so slow in attacking. But I don’t think the problem is a Slot problem, we struggled few seasons against the low block.
Horror show. I was watching on cable TV and I couldn’t believe the lethargic performance put in by the boys. It’s as if they were playing the 4th last game of the season instead of the 4th game of the new season. Simple passes going astray under no pressure, inability or unwillingness to attack the Forest box, perhaps they thought that playing Slot Ball possession was enough instead of stepping up the intensity and going for Forest directly? Plus the much hyped midfield got exposed when Forest ran through it, maybe a defensive player like Endo who’s not attack minded could have made a difference. Szobo and Salah were very poor, but hey, they get the same weekly wage whether they’re great or shite. 🙄 And what’s worst is that we were playing with our STRONGEST team, and we got found out in a pathetic and lethargic performance!
Don't understand what Slot was thinking. why he always liked to change two full backs? why he took Mac and Luis off? Clearly, Szobo was the one should go off. really don't like he always change two full backs
Thank you for your honesty regarding Salah’s performance. You showed respect but didn’t mask the fact that he was absolutely shocking! The fact that Slot didn’t sub him shows that he doesn’t have the balls to do it. He dropped Quansah like a hot potato but left Salah to play the whole game! Disappointing management IMHO. No one player is bigger than the team! Salah was not alone in being well below expectations but he was the main culprit in wasting the limited opportunities we had.
Blaming slot is the most infuriating thing I’ve ever heard in my life. The owners did absolutely nothing to improve the squad but FSG bootlickers are already blaming Slot. Scousers are hypocrites. Make fun of bootlickers while doing exactly that for FSG
Both to blame along with the players. The quality we have regardless of signings shouldn't be getting beat by relegation battlers simple as that. It's a slap on the wrist don't let it happen again moment today.
The team is good enough. Last year they were literally on their way to win PL when the injury bug hit them and spoiled it. This is about Slot being able to do better, the same or worse than Klopp. Too early to judge though. But just as an pre-pre-emptive idea: if Arne sucks, ask Jürgen next year and he might be recovered again to come back. :)
They looked and played like a team that hadn't played together in 2 weeks and traveled from all over the world in a hurry to get back together. No real surprise and nothing to panic over.
I guess you covered all the bases David, to me…the Liverpool I began watching as an 8yr old, was clinical…clinical in defence, Midfield and attack. Our goals came from Phil Neal (RB) to Supersub David Fairclough. Yesterday, MacAlister annoyed the life out me, rolling round like B. Fernandez. I want him like Mascherano! Szorbo, had a tough week on Int duty. Mo had the old double up on him and TTA looks like his heart is set elsewhere. I like the ‘don’t change a winning team!’ But that team cannot have looked sharp in training…Slot has one eye on Tuesday, I’d have made 3/4 changes. Robbo/VVD/Salah/Arnold/Szorbo and Mac Al, all played most of the Int games. That break is very poorly timed. However, the honeymoon is over, and all eyes are on Arne, now, so we get behind him on Tuesday and hope for a good result. Lastly the only player who impressed for me was Ryan Gravenberch, he was colossus in midfield and we need all three to be on the same page. I’m content with ‘bad day at the office’ YNWA
As a lifelong liverpool fan im embarresed for the fans that actually think this team can win anything... The owners dont care about titles , they care about the profits.. Richard Hughes played a blinder for john henry, 50 million profit, 500 thousand a week of the wage bill, sold out hospitallity at a grand a seat, the season has started perfectly for fsg
Slott is culpable here along with some key players: soboz Salah ... Where did this3 at the back come from?? utter madness.. Needed to.have scored before Nuno first subs came on... Slott needs a plan B+C should have been prepared for this sort of unfolding game.... We've seen it so many times in the past.... Salah needs to be less sloppy + selfish at this stage...was surprised at how poor his decision making was today....
Mo Salah is a Liverpool icon! But let’s be real the last 3 seasons he has always got off to a blistering start for the first few months! But come January he falls off! To give Mo a 3 year extension on the wages he’s currently on would be insane! We should have bitten the Saudis arm off when they offered £200million! Salah and Szobo stank Anfield out today!
Liverpool needed new blood , only one came in let’s see what happens over the next two windows once he’s brought in a few of his own players . Let’s be honest there are a few at the wrong end of their career . It’s going to be crucial they bring in quality.
Forest deserved the win....they had us in their pockets...Salah did nothing...and should have been subbed ...maybe even by Chiesa ...or Luco switched to right and Gakpo on the left ...Darwin was a waste of space ...once again ! And yet we had 70% posession?...International break definitely has derailed our great start to the season....now its back to reality and going to be a grind which is what a proper team should be able to deal with !! YNWA
An honest assessment and it's been a feature of the last few years that we are slow to get started again after international breaks and we struggle against the low block. Forest's fullbacks were terrific as you said; however, you didn't mention the subs. None of the substitutions seemed to work and we got worse rather than better. Si is this down to lack playing timevwith Darwin, Curtis and Connor? They should have enough energy. And Trent's move to the midfield seemed to be against Slot's 'usual' preference of playing in the best position. We now do look a bit light in the middle when we need a player to break play and take control rather than progress the ball. Eliot would have been a good replacement for Szoboszlai today, alas.
Slot style 100% wasn't the issue today . We got to the final third wirh ease today. But the quality after we got there was the worst ive seen. Salah, jota and sozbo deserved to be dropped after that shocker. Szobo is not the amswer playing against a low block.
Switching to a back three with two full-backs, moving Alexander-Arnold The Great to midfield and bringing on Nunez made FSG Liverpool worse and seemed like something a coach of Lampard's level would have done. It appears as if Alexander-Arnold The Great won the battle and is never going to be substituted by the FSG Slot Machine again.
It was turning the team upside down and none of the players knew who was playing where. Slot needs to never do that shit again. Keep the proper structure and increase tempo and passing speed when looking for goals. Don't start putting players in wrong positions. Worrying from the manager. Amateurish.
Couldnt agree more. I have admired Slots tactics and subs but today I was shocked. Instead of tweeking things he changed the whole shape of the team and it didnt work.
Slot seems dismissive of teams "outside the top ten"....This isn't the Dutch league there are no easy games. He learned a harsh lesson Forest totally did a number on Liverpool. Man marked Salah. Diaz and MacAlister and that was enough to kill the Slot gameplan.
Didn’t see the game today but the subs look odd. Did TAA go in to midfield and did we go to a 3 at the back when Curtis came on? Did we have a real 10 on the pitch at all?
The only Liverpool fan channel that’s called the game as it was, MOTD doesn’t show the true picture of what a tactical masterclass this was by Forest, the only big chances Liverpool had was the Yates mistake the other Sells and the header from Jotta. We locked out Salah and co. And the subs were Elanga who 1st came on on the left, then CHO who came on on the left switching Elanga to the right, possible Liverpool didn’t do their research but nevertheless fantastic game mgmt by Nuno. COYR…PS not sure what slot and Alison were on about re forest long ball and Liverpool deserving to win.
I like the idea of Trent and Bradley on the pitch together, but nothing is meant to get down that side if they do. If the forward needs to cut in onto their right foot, they should be forced down the line every single time. That was a lack of discipline. No individual was to blame for this, the entire team lacked something and no one is above being subbed I.e Salah and Szobo. We still can’t break down a low block and Gravenberch was prevented from launching the attack. Between Forest and Utd the league has been shown how to and how not to play against us. I’ve long rated Nuno, he did a job on Slot.
I have heard the 'international break' thing touted by lots of pundits over the last few hours. You need to get real on that one; it is the same for all premiership teams it could be renamed 'The Liverpool excuse'.
It isn’t though is it. How many Forrest movies players were away on international duty? They had weeks to drill this game plan and we had a couple of days. Its not an excuse just a partial explanation for an underwhelming performance.
@@Seids_89 Forest had 14 players on international duty I think Liverpool had 17 so not a lot of difference also Forest have the two first choice CMs out injured so really doesn't wash. The fact is on the day Forest got the tactics right and had the quality of players to carry out the game plan. All of the Liverpool fans (for sure) and maybe the team were convinced they were in for an easy win and over confidence never ends well. Forest are not the same team as last year.
I agree with most of your points David, excellent detail and very honest. Slow, boring at times ? Lacking creativity. The second half in particular was really poor, Slot's subs didn't work at all, Trent in midfield didn't work. When Bradley came on, he and Iboo really struggled, the goal on that side seemed inevitable. Slot losing his second home game worryingly early.
Slot has been a manager now for a while,so i very much doubt that this is the first time an opposing manager figured out his way of playing, therefore im a bit surprised that he didn't have a plan in place,or maybe he did an the players let him down?? What would you reckon david??
I think the international break has played havoc with rhythm a little bit and it was probably just a bad day at the office. But it’s also likely Slot hasn’t faced anything quite like a PL low block before so I do think that’s a decent test for him now, to work out how to get through it. Thankfully the games are coming quickly now so they can show a response.
we lost midfield battle , losing second balls ,aerial duels , i wouldve put endo gave macca/ryan the license forward pulled out ryan/macca/dom rather than putting trent as midfield . if Slott doesnt learn to rotate like kloppo does , he's in for a rude awakening
We needed a different system against a lowblock team.352/451 with a false9(Gakpo and DM(Endo).9 to bring CB out position and collect the ball and DM to push Grav and Macca up the pitch to hit a few at goal.A scrappy goal or deflection would've done it 1sthalf.
Forest played very well, Slot should of made some changes after the international break and had some faith in the players. We looked leggy. If this is what Forest will do, imagine teams like Arsenal, Spurs, and, Newcastle
I thought Salah's performance was below average. He was so selfish and made alot of poor decisions on the final third. This is a game we should have won even with the low back defense that we witnessed today. The substitutions didn't cut it for me in my opinion, why remove Maca and leave Arnold who was spreading risky passes without benefits to the team. Having said that, we have a brilliant future under Slot. He has a way of bouncing back strong and hard. Indeed it was bad day in office.
The three that have contracts for renewal are talking toooo much to the media and on social. Please this is affecting the performance of the team as a whole. Today's performance was woeful 😢
A truly poor performance by LFC, but Forest was lucky too. Very upsetting, but still a very good start. The good strategy of Forest is over-rated. They just put 11 players in their own box and they hoped for 1-3 chances every team gets. The subs came in to force these few chances. Against such a tactic LFC needed to be very good to tear them apart. I would argue that LFC next time will play a different strategy.
Because the FSG Slot Machine feels Chiesa isn't ready, because FSG signed him so late in the transfer window. That's what happens when you pinch every penny (while generating record revenues) and wait around for opportunities to fall into your lap.
We better prepare for an up and down season. That second unit isn’t really gonna offer much of a boost. And Klopp’s kids have been sold or are on loan. The new tactics are good when things are clicking and when players can actually pass the ball, but there’s a lack of energy in the style of play which directly affects the crowd. It’s as if the style is taking the crowd out of the game. A crowd that’s been used to heavy metal energy. And with the Anfield crowd subdued, we lose that threatening, hostile energy that we used to have. Football is kind of magical in that sense.
Reality check for Slot. The players weren't great either but it's the managers job to figure it out. However, as you say David, it could be a very valuable, albeit harsh, lesson learned. Klopp had a few of these results ar Anfield too so we don't want to get carried away at this early stage whether we're winning or losing. Also credit to Forest.
Guess the honeymoon period is over. Also, this was the Salah we had for most of last season, yet most fans seem to be blinded by loyalty and by his past achievements, and thought selling him was insanity. I said all summer we should have sold and cashed in, because the time was right. But hey.
He’s barely had any time with his squad with the euros and long international break He needs 1-2 years to fully establish his style. It was unrealistic to raise expectations after the last 3 wins
Agree completely. However for me not strengthening the midfield will cost us. Its clear the manager doesnt rate Endo and the fact the he moved Trent into midfield instead of bringing on Jones a natural midfielder says it all. For me Soboszlai is a concern also
The unrealistic expectations were nothing to do with forest! No manager has come to the p.l (apart from mourinho in memory) and immediately won the league! Modern fans may not like this , but this is inevitably a transitional season! Otherwise, you’re not only asking too much, the pressure applied will transfer to manager and players and make things worse! I’ve got very high expectations but it’s a journey not an event!
Despite looking lethargic, flat and pedestrianised in our play with no real rhythm, when we did get in promising positions the final ball or pass in the box was poor and is happening often in games and needs addressing.
Slot neds tobe more curios on mosala the main problem wes him I think he need to be subbed when necessary and Eliot wes suppose tobe given the chances in such condition's he is good on the ball in terms of organizing thos balls from Trent and delivering good chances in the box which Mo wesnt doing.
I am not concerned about this performance. I do think that it is very difficult for players to come back from an international break to play in a new system with a new manager. I believe we will struggle against milan again but we will turn it around on the weekend.
Every player inexplicably had a bad game. It was genuinely like they'd all forgotten how to play football. Every pass in the final third was overhit or misplaced. Can't take anything away from how well Forest executed their game plan but we really didn't help ourselves.
Slot made big mistakes yesterday, should have freshened up the starting 11 and he looked clueless when nothing was working. Pep Lijnders used to be brilliant at spotting what wasn't working and getting Klopp to change formations. As a few fans were saying as we left the ground, he didn't seem to know what to do.
Most concerning thing is how quite anfield is since slots arrival Whats everyones thoughts on slot? Not a knee jerk but something dont feel right . He dont feel like a liverpool manager .
I don’t believe how fickle fans are these days , we’ve lost 1 game at home, if we had won today guaranteed your reaction would of not been something don’t feel right about Slot . Forest have had a decent start you have to earn wins, we where not at it today but we will bounce back .
@jackodon74 I have been supporting this club for 30 years . I said this exact thing after the first game. I have seen managers come and go I have seen managers that fit and that don't fit . A manager isn't just judged on managing its not as simple as that . Has to feel right . This isn't about a loss I never said his not good enough. He could be good enough BUT he don't feel right it's that simple .
After the stadium expansion Anfield is now three quarters hospitality seating. The atmosphere has been poor for a while. It was very quiet last season especially the 2pm Sunday games. Klopp knew that the crowd needed to be wound up constantly - especially against the "small teams" to keep the crowd involved. His fist pumps and touchline histrionics were all part of that. Slot isn't a demonstrative guy he is never going to do any of that. I suspect the atmosphere in the stadium will remain poor except against the City/Arsenal/Utd games - The problem we have is that most "hospitality fans" in the stadium come expecting to be entertained by the crowd.....without accepting they ARE the crowd and need to get involved themselves.
@@j1s__t5 we need that but we also need to dominate the opposition full backs. We really could do with a very technical #10 type player AKA Elliott. It’s also clear that Nunez isn’t technical enough to be the striker in the slot system
Should we had started with changes from the previous match knowing matches come quickly now and that other teams in the league play a similar way too!!!
Now Slot knows these poor performances happen as to change tactics for bus parking What was even worse was the aggressive hatred on social media about certain individuals Trent & Nunez is disgusting We are Liverpool we are better than this
No contract renewals, no major investment from the owners for years so much so that Klopp had enough & walked & a pretty dire atmosphere at Anfield, hardly surprising that this will be the norm moving forward. Back to top 6 mediocrity is inevitable thanks to the owners not having the miracle worker at the helm.
I thought LFC were marginally the better team and should have won, but did not do enough to actually pull it off or to make me feel good about it. There are no moral victories, but LFC did shade it.
Sorry david but there has been a complete lack of investment needed for key areas like DM and in CB...FSG are to blame as well as their yes men...edwards and hughs.
Guys this loss is not a big deal for me because the players made bad decisions in key possession moments. For ke I think we actually defended well bit for the first time simce the end of last season our attack let us down
I think Arne Slot might be too similar to Jurgen Klopp. Two of my negative points about Klopp was that, firstly, once he had started a match with a tactic Klopp, very rarely, was able to change tactics during a match so I hoped when we brought in Slot he would be able to change and tinker his tactic on the go during a match when he saw his first choice tactic was failing. Secondly, we always say we have a defensive midfielder, we said it under Klopp (Fabinho, Endo, Mac Allister) and we say it under slot (Gravenberch, Endo, Mac Allister) but I’m not sure they actually are defensive midfielders as they go up to attack, if you watch them when Liverpool attack on the edge of the area helping with the overload is Gravenberch and Mac Allister. My point is that when they push up they are unable to fulfill their defensive duties and we see that when we get hit on the counters, there has to come a time when the manager says ‘defensive midfielders need to stay back and protect the defenders’ if and when that happens Liverpool will be able to stop counters more effectively. Also I don’t think the makeup of the squad helps, Liverpool had 4 defenders, 2 midfielders and 2 forwards on the bench today, I get we had some injuries but it doesn’t help us when we are struggling to score and we more defenders than forwards on the bench. It also seems to me that being a sub helps Gakpo and Nunez, some players are better coming off the bench and some players are better when they start, and I don’t see Gakpo and Nunez as effective subs.
No problem with a 1 goal defeat....No problem with SALAH OR VVD CONTRACT...I have a HUGE PROBLEM WITH TAA...HE IS DEFENSIVE LIABILITY,NAIVE AND HAS A BAD ATTITUDE...GET HIM GONE...
Salah is losing a bit of pace, a few balls there today while running onto passes and tracking back he did not get too. if it was a few years ago he would have got too those. Its small margins at this level.
Salah wants to stay but at what cost? Not the same player. Always starts well but goes missing in mid-season and after the Christmas break. No longer has the pace and can't beat a player. He has been poor for a few years when comparing to the very high standards he set. When is the last time he actually made a difference in a big game? A true legend but time to move on. No player is more important than the club!
Bloody hell salah on 6 goal contributions in 4 games saying hes washed is ridiculous (yt comments). What part of his bad game had anything to do with age?
The likelihood of these performances increases as any player ages, you can’t escape that. Not saying that was the reason Saturday, but it’s obviously a huge thing to consider when you’re giving out a big contract.
@@davidlynchlfc hey there David, my comment was aimed at online yt comments sections not your very considered analysis. Your critiques were very fair and enjoyed the video a lot as I always do. should have made my comment more clear sorry!
